Playoff eligible players can't be traded franchise

I'm curious as to whether this is real life or if this is a "program challenged" difficulty for the game? (I know this all about being somewhat OCD in my desire to make real life moves in my franchise)

Basically, you cannot move (except within MLB, AAA, AA, or A) or trade a MLB roster player in September due to the "Playoff eligible players cannot be ________ (traded, designated, released, or removed from 40 man roster) during the expanded roster period."

For example: On Sept. 6, 2017 the Phillies traded Juan Nicasio (who was on the Phi MLB roster) to the Cardinals for 2B Eliezer Alvarez (a minor leaguer). However, in the game I cannot make that trade because it is not allowed because one or both players are deemed "playoff eligible".)

There are a number of things in terms of expanded rosters, trading, etc that prohibit me from keeping my franchise up to "real life" transactions and maybe it's just the limitations of a video game. Just wondering...

With a little more research I actually answered this one myself:

MLB rules:
Trades: Hitting September 1 also means the waiver-trading period has come to a close. Then again, trades can still happen in September. In order for this to happen, the player to be traded must have already passed through waivers. He also cannot have been previously pulled back off waivers. - Matt Synder - CBS Sports

I think the difficulty, at least for me, is knowing about waiver moves. Apparently in my example above, Juan Nicasio has passed through waivers before Sept. 1. But how would I know that? This certainly means playing at least a few days, if not a week or more, behind the regular schedule if you want to make real life moves. So, my new question:

Does anyone have a recommended site for following waiver moves for MLB?
(I use ESPN, MLB, Rotoworld and Roster Resource)

I use MLB Trade Rumors from time to time. There's even a DFA Tracker which is found on the sidebar.

I'm not familiar with that particular trade itself, and this is just based on general knowledge of baseball, albeit many years of being a baseball fan and patron of The Show, so take it with a grain of salt:

Players who are on the 40 man roster after September 1st are considered on the major league roster and cannot be traded (traditional trade deadline has passed). Minor leaguers who were not on the 40 man roster on Sept 1st can, however.

Teams are therefore able to trade minor leaguers all they want.

Trade waivers for MLB players is something that I never fully understood, but it at least helps address your concern. It seems as though the team placed the major leaguer on trade waivers which allows other teams an opportunity to claim him, which almost never happens; or at least a claim is almost never completed because the original team can take it back (like I said, I don't really understand that aspect of it). If he goes unclaimed, he is then removed from the 40 man roster and is available for trade.

At least that's my general understanding of it.

Thanks Kotter (and Welcome back! Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I think I too understand the waiver system it's just that keeping up with the real life waiver moves in the Show is hard. Mostly because we don't see the waiver moves before the trade.

For example, Verlander was traded on the August 31st but as you accurately posted, he had to be put on waivers at least a couple days ahead of that trade. In MLBTHS when we only see the trade we are behind the 8 ball and the trade non-waiver deadline due to not having Verlander on waivers before the 31st.

Working from behind in the calendar is the only solution I can come up with. Although it would be nice to find a site that keeps up in a timely fashion with all the waiver moves. Appreciate your input.
