Bring back CAF share...

I remember fight night champions and I believe the first UFC game had it could be wrong though but I would love to download some CAF , seen some pretty cool ones in EAUFC2 !
I wonder if it’s possible to integrate the back into the game?
I know there’s some licensing issues but I would like to have fights with random created fighters on play now!
What do you guys think is it possible to get this done, even if it’s just an instant random created fighter option on play now... would be absolutely awesome since heavyweight division is pretty thin....????

They need a caf system like the WWE games or at least undisputed 3. Also a share system would be nice.

Good luck with that. EA MMA had that and we've asked for it since they got the license and for fight cards. 3 games in and we don't even have a rematch option in quick match lol.

I'd love this as well but i also see why they wouldn't. I have seen some awesome cafs on the forum (still love that mike perry one)but if you could just download all these fighters people want its going to be alot less dramatic when they add new fighters themselves unless they got something special. If everything is smooth, balanced and we get some ground depth it would be a fantastic final patch(if possible lol).

EA MMA had that and EA received a ****load of cease and desist letters from Zuffa/UFC to takedown UFC fighters. I remember when the game first came out you could find CAFs for Chuck and Rampage and Penn and then all of sudden they were all scrubbed from their servers.

Whats wild is that EA was able to keep the FN CAF share up for years even though those fighters wouldve have had the same argument.

I think the risk is lower now (I doubt Bellator would send a C&D to EA over their fighters) but EA is understandably conservative about this now given that they've had previous lawsuits related to likeness righs.

I always wonder the same thing

But I think most wrestlers dont own their likeness

While UFC/bellator likely includes that in contracts for fighters

This is something I tell my clients all the time: "Just because you can get away with it doesnt mean its legal."

With EA MMA, Zuffa has a pretty easy case. In damn near every contract they have with a fighter, the fighter grants them exclusive use of their likeness in a video game. Zuffa then granted that right to THQ when making UD3.

By allowing people to create and share UFC fighters and store them on its server, an argument could be made that EA was infringing on Zuffa's exclusive use of those rights. Zuffa wouldve filed a tortious interference with a contract claim and likely wouldve won if EA didnt pull those fighters down.

With WWE, 2k is banking on a few things. One, the likelihood of a competitor like New Japan or Impact filing a suit against 2k related to a Kenny Omega or Young Bucks CAF is slim. Its also unlikely that those companies even own those rights and therefore they wouldnt have the right to sue.

Two, while the individual wrestlers have rights and could sue, most of them dont care. They are fine with someone creating them and putting them in a game. Also, many of them may not even be aware they are in the game.

Fair enough, but WWE caf share is filled with anything from Michael Jackson to regional scene wrestlers

True and anyone of those guys (the Michael Jackson estate included) could send 2k a C&D and ask them to take down those fighters. If 2k refused, they could sue.

With that said, lawsuits are expensive and the amount of potential damages are low so its not likely worth it to them.

With EA MMA, it would be absolutely worth it. EA had hundreds of Zuffa fighters on their server (which increases the potential damages significantly) and they were a direct competitor to UD3. WWE2k doesnt really have a competitor that would think it was worth it to sue.

An extra mode for CAF play would be nice also. Cause UT doesn't do it for me this time. Too unbalanced.

Any chance that extra modes can be added to the game?

Very interesting. It also make me think about, slightly off topic, But I've been wondering if there are legal reasons that EA never implimented the THQ grappling and submission system and almost reversed enginered a new one that was "same, same but different".

No legal reasons from what I can see unless THQ patented that system.

I think EA wanted to go in a different direction and didnt love THQ's system. I know some people feel the systems were great but it faced a ton of criticism back then. I remember people bashing the sub system in 2 and 3 and people saying the grappling was simplistic.
