Re: Best Player In 18 To Build A Franchise Around
Hard to argue with Trout, although Altuve is a close second. Both are five tool players at key positions. Arenado is probably 3rd for me.
I hate building around a SP. Don't get me wrong, SP is important, but building around 1 guy who will only play once every 5 games (and even then not even all of the game most of the time) seems like a flawed strategy to me. I ALWAYS prioritize depth in pitching over having a superstar. -
Re: Best Player In 18 To Build A Franchise Around
I would personally prefer to build around a starting pitcher but Kershaw and Sale are lefties and that's a minor (very minor) minus in my book. Corey Kluber would be my first choice for pitcher. I would rather him be a year or two younger though.Hard to argue with Trout, although Altuve is a close second. Both are five tool players at key positions. Arenado is probably 3rd for me.

Re: Best Player In 18 To Build A Franchise Around
I'm a huge Altuve fan (as an Astros fan), and I love Trout too, but Nolan Arenado is my guy in The Show. A couple of years ago I did a Rockies franchise to go along with my Astros one and I completely tore it up with him like I have never done before. Last year I didn't use the Rockies but I did end up getting him after a couple of seasons in my franchise and I tore it up with him again.
If I have the first pick of anybody on this game to start my team with, he's my choice every time.Comment

I'll be starting up a quick season with Colorado before too long and I am so glad to get a stance editor this year. Arenado's stance is a bit too closed for my taste. I'm still looking for a better stance to edit for him though . I got his foot turned open enough but he's still too much on top of the plate for my liking. I can't hit an inside pitch as well as I should hope to with his default stance.I'm a huge Altuve fan (as an Astros fan), and I love Trout too, but Nolan Arenado is my guy in The Show. I wouldn't use a particular team for a franchise based around one player, I would and do use my favorite team, regardless of how good or bad they are.Comment

I do that but then I also run many different scenarios also.
I even still have my original braves franchise started in Show 14 carried all the way to 18 lolOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Trout
Altuve
Correa
Lindor
Harper
Arenado
Bryant
Trea Turner
My vote went to Trout. He is simply the best all around player in the game today. I love Altuve too and would be thrilled with either player.
Lindor, Correa and Turner are all fantastic SS’s and are great players to build a team around as well IMO. But if you are picking first.....Mike is your man.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 04-12-2018, 07:53 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

In this game, it’s hard to build around TT because his potential is surprisingly low (80). He starts regressing almost immediately. Same as last year.

Why is this? Is it because hes been injured frequently? I mean when hes healthy, hes a force. Not power wise, but good d and a speed demonIn this game, it’s hard to build around TT because his potential is surprisingly low (80). He starts regressing almost immediately. Same as last year.

Re: Best Player In 18 To Build A Franchise Around
None of the above.
I usually build around Lindor, Severino, Syndergaard, guys who can become those guys above quickly while still under team controlled contracts and MIGHT be available without drawing a top 10 first round pick.
Or just go decent early (emphasizing decent pitching) and grab my future anchors in players like Moancada, Buxton, Mallex Smith, Gary Sanchez (probably my 1st rounder in this scenario, 84 arm, train his defense and get defensive coaches, which will help all you defenders in-game with some extra points).
That's why I usually do since I'm not often in position for any of the guys on the list."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

I felt the same way about his stance when I first started using him. But he grew on me. Plus with his closed stance for some reason I can pick up the away pitch really easy. Plus he's always in the mix for MVP in all of the franchises I have seen thus farI'll be starting up a quick season with Colorado before too long and I am so glad to get a stance editor this year.
