How could I have survived this?

Or is this completely unfair like I thought?

How could I have survived this?

arm traps, denials and patience. you had more than one opportunity for the first two but lacked the patience to actually get it.

edit: you coulda stopped him from flattening you out with RT and down. as soon as you got to half guard you should almost always expect them to go to full guard, instead you threw a strike which he transitioned right through. then you had a few oportunities to arm trap him in full mount but you were in full panic mode at that point.

You tried to transition after two blocked strikes, I think the trick is to Block after three.

I'll try this. I highly doubt the half guard transition is COMPLETELY useless.

Being patient is what got me KOed. Apart from that, thanks for your advice.

nah man, you panicking trying to escape is what got you ko’d. when a gsp, khabib or anyone with crazy grappling stats you have to expect this. i didn’t see the whole match so idk how the match got to the ground, but know it’s not over when they get you there. just relax and figure them out.

another thing is this game does not reward lay and pray anymore. if you denied that transition to top mount and transitioned yourself to full guard a few more denials (which are easier the more you deny cus of GA) in your full guard and the ref would have stood it up!

also when it comes to arm traps i literally just hold RT/R2 and wait for the words “arm trap” to come up and it works almost every time. in ufc 2 i could arm trap based on timing and animation, but in this one i can only get em when i see the words pop up.

              - should've transition before he postured up in full mount
              - should have went for arm traps
              - if arm traps failed, block a few and give up your back before your block is broken
              - when your back is given up, focus on blocking and at the same time focus on blocking his attempt at flattening you out
              - after a few blocks or a denial, transition to half guard and watch be ready to block his transition to full mount

It's genuinely frightening how opinionated people are about the balance of this game when it turns out they can't even get out of mount.

It has actually nothing to with 2 or 3 blocks. I have guys escaping the mount with 1 block and even with no blocked strike. Its the timing of the transition and the stats of your fighter.

Once u block 2 or 3 strikes in full mount if u use LB and transition, u transition to back mount rather than half guard and the back mount transition is much quicker than the half guard transition. U can also use LB to transiton from backmount flat to half guard

Re: How could I have survived this?

learn how to deny transitions like going into full mount or flattening you from back mount. Also its best to block at least 3 strikes before u do a transition. However i always roll to the back mount as its the safest transition imo. when u get to back mount just hold block and wait for a denial for transition to half guard. Once in half guard just pump denial into full mount. You would rather them go SC then pump denial to crucific or side saddle or full mount. but your aim is to get to sprawl from this position. If hes a good ground guy he could keep you down for the round but at least you wont get finished.

This is just an example of a fundamentally flawed ground game.

It looked terrible to begin with and secondly why can't he buck out when GSP is just sat up straight raining punches down???
