Yeah I must say...as saddening that it is that we seemingly may never get another NCAA Football game, at least not any time soon, these games surely have aged quite well.

I appreciate you checking in man - hopefully this is the year Tulane gets back to the top. I truly never expected that I'd be going into season 8 of this Part II project still searching for ring #3!

Game 1, Year 17 (2026 season): #9 Tulane Green Wave at #23 Ohio St. Buckeyes

Tulane true freshman PK Blake Dunn had ice cold veins Saturday night and drilled this 32-yard game-winner, giving the Green Wave the lead as time expired and a huge opening week victory.

Columbus, OH -- #9 Tulane struggled for three quarters in Saturday night's season opener versus #23 Ohio St., however the team's offense came alive when it mattered most, putting together a 17-point fourth quarter en route to a captivating 27-24 victory at Columbus. The Green Wave got a stong second half performance out of QB Jimmy McBride amongst others, and true freshman PK Blake Dunn's 32-yard walk-off field goal capped off the Wave's late rally in what was a wild back-and-forth final quarter between the two squads.

Redshirt junior QB Jimmy McBride was terrific Saturday evening, completing 23 of his 37 passes for 339 yards and a touchdown.

The Green Wave drew first blood early in the game when sophomore WR Grant Brady, last year's "Best Returner" award recipient, returned a first quarter punt 73 yards for a touchdown to give his team a 7-0 lead. After taking back three kickoffs for touchdowns last seasons as a true freshman, the punt return score was Brady's first of his career and only the 8th by a Green Wave player during head coach D. Geezy's 17-year reign as head coach. Unfortunately, Brady's big play would be the Wave's last for a long while.

A 49-yard field goal by Buckeyes freshman PK Lee Dawson would cap off his team's ensuing possession and cut their deficit to 7-3. Then, in the second quarter, RB Beau Goodwin's 69-yard burst for a touchdown gave Ohio St. its first lead of the game, making the score 10-7 with 6:13 to go in the first half. Goodwin, the Buckeyes' backup running back who was in the game at that moment in place of banged up starter Roy Graham, finished with 3 carries for 98 yards, good for a whopping 32.7 yards per carry average.

"They didn't do anything very special there; we just failed our gap assignments," said Tulane defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar, whose unit struggled mightily against the run last season, finishing ranked 101st the nation in run defense.

"We knew coming in that they were going to get off the bus running, especially with such a good offensive line. We just failed to execute."

Later, in the third quarter, Graham would cap off an 11-play 81-yard drive by borrowing his way through the Wave defense for a 2-yard touchdown that increased the Buckeyes' lead to 17-7. Like Goodwin, Graham had no problems all day running through the Wave's much-maligned run defense, and finished with 20 carries for 123 yards.

The Green Wave offense, stifled for the game's first three quarters, would finally put points on the board via a 34-yard field goal by Dunn late in the third quarter that cut their deficit to 17-10. Other than a first quarter drive that ended with a lost fumble by RB Anthony Brown deep in Ohio St. territory, the field goal drive would be the closest the Wave would come to the end zone through the game's first three quarters. That all changed in the final period however.

Following a 57-yard field goal miss by Dawson with 0:18 to go in the third quarter, McBride and the Wave offense finally got to work.

With his team down 17-10, McBride would direct a 7-play 60-yard drive which culminated with a 22-yard touchdown pass to star WR Adam Lawson that tied the game up at 17-17. Lawson, who was shut out in the first half, came alive in the second half and finished with 5 receptions for 100 yards.

Unfortunately for Tulane, the tie would not last long however, as Ohio St. would get an incredible, miracle play on its very next possession. Facing a third down deep in their own territory, QB Chad Dawson, a redshirt junior and the older brother of the placekicker Lee, threw a deep pass to WR Justin Lopez on a corner route near the sideline. The pass would get deflected by Tulane senior CB P.J. Reese, however the ball ricocheted back into the hands of Lopez. Lopez, who was reportedly clocked at 4.30 in the 40-yard dash this past off-season, would corral the football and sprint down the sideline for an improbable 82-yard touchdown which gave his team a 24-17 lead with 6:27 remaining and sent the capacity crowd of 107,196 into a frenzy. Lopez torched the Wave defense for 4 receptions and 163 yards on the night, none bigger than his fourth quarter miracle grab.

In one of the most bizarre plays of opening weekend, Tulane senior dime CB P.J. Reese deflected this pass near the sideline, however Buckeyes WR Justin Lopez was able to still haul it in to give his team a 24-17 fourth quarter lead.

"I thought the defender played the ball well there," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy of Reese, who was forced to play nickel back following a first half elbow injury sustained by true freshman nickel defender Kurt Blalock.

"There isn't a whole lot to teach about that moment. I thought Lopez just showed excellent concentration and luck just wasn't on our side at that moment."

Now down 24-17, Tulane would get another bad break. Following Lopez's big play, a 8-play drive would end with a turnover on downs deep in Ohio St. territory after Geezy elected to go for it on fourth down rather than attempt a 49-yard field goal on 4th and 4 with 3:57 to go. The mistake would give the Buckeyes the ball back with an opportunity to run out the clock.

Sophomore RB Anthony Brown made amends for a costly early redzone fumble, scampering 24 yards for a touchdown that tied the game at 24-24 with 1:46 remaining. Brown finished the night with 23 carries for 135 yards in his debut as a starter.

Fortunately, the Wave defense came up with big plays when they needed it most. After Ohio St. successfully drove the ball to midfield, the unit would hold and forced a punt.

McBride, with his team down 24-17, in-turn then directed a 7-play 80-yard drive, and Brown's 24-yard touchdown run with 1:30 to go tied the game up at 24-24. Brown, a sophomore making his debut as the team's starting tailback, finished with a career-high 135 yards on the ground and made amends for his earlier fumble with the big score late.

The Buckeyes got the ball back with less than a minute and a half remaining, but they'd do nothing with it. Dawson was taken down for a sack by DE Mike Miller on second down, and Reese swatted away a pass attempt to Lopez on 3rd and 18, forcing a punt with just over a minute to go.

McBride would then direct a quick 4-play drive to put his team in position for the win. A 21-yard completion to freshman WR Steve Mosley on a slant pattern quickly moved the ball into Buckeyes territory. Then, two plays later, a leaping 20-yard grab by Mosley moved the ball into the red zone, setting the Wave up in field goal range and setting the stage for Dunn's heroics.

After Ohio St. exhaused all three of its timeouts to ice the young kicker, the New Jersey native would drill a walk-off 32-yard field goal, capping off the 27-24 comeback victory and sending Green Wave players, coaches, and staff members pouring onto the field.

"This was a very proud moment for us and a big win to start the season," said Geezy, who received an unexpected Gatorade shower from his players during his post-game on-field interview.

"No question, there were mistakes made and things we need to clean up, but this was a quality win against a big time opponent at their place and one we won't forget for some time. We dug deep, and figured out a way to win."

Tulane (1-0) will host #20 Auburn (1-0) next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Green Wave defeated the Tigers 48-29 last year in both teams' season opener, however then-unranked Auburn shocked then-#8 Tulane 47-24 the previous season at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

QB Jimmy McBride, who shredded Ohio St. through the air for 339 yards and made several clutch plays in the fourth quarter, was rewarded with Player of the Game honors for his heroics.

Ohio St. had major problems stopping RB Michael Brown Jr. as a receiver out of the backfield as the versatile junior finished the night with a game-high 7 receptions for 75 yards.




Buckeyes RB Beau Goodwin exploded through the first wave of the defense and out-raced everyone for this 69-yard second quarter touchdown that gave Ohio St. its first lead of the game at 10-7.




Held without a catch in the first half, Tulane junior star WR Adam Lawson took over in the second half and finished the night with 5 receptions for 100 yards, including this 22-yard touchdown reception which tied the game up at 17-17 early in the fourth quarter.




Ohio St. QB Chad Dawson would slip the grasp of OLB Sean Williamson (#9) however DE Mike Miller (#58) would clean up for a huge fourth quarter sack with 1:22 remaining which helped the Green Wave get the ball back late.




With the game tied at 24-24, QB Jimmy McBride got possession of the football at its own 38-yard line with 1:02 remaining.




Blue chip true freshman WR Steve Mosley came up big Saturday night and made 2 clutch catches for 41 yards on the game-winning drive, helping the Wave get into position to snatch away the win.




True freshman PK Blake Dunn knew his game-winning field goal was good as soon as it left his foot and celebrated.




McBride and most of the Green Wave bench stormed the field in jubilation following Dunn's successful walk-off field goal.

Yeah I must admit, those guys absolutely had us on the ropes. I was genuinely at the edge of/out of my seat most of the game and that fourth quarter was absolutely nerve-racking.

I literally jumped out of my chair, yelled and pumped my fist after the 24-yard fourth quarter touchdown run by Brown to tie the game; it had been a good while since I experienced something like that.

You had better luck with Ohio State than I did, great win to open the season. Things played out pretty well despite the slow start.

Thanks man. I definitely had forgotten just how intense these games can get. It's really the beauty of college football - I felt like our season was on the line, and it was only game 1!

Last Meeting: In last year's season opener, #12 ranked Tulane faced off against a #24 ranked Auburn squad, hoping to avenge the previous season's humiliating loss to the Tigers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and that they did. Former Wave RB Tony Tompkins recorded 305 all-purpose yards and 4 touchdowns, including two punt return scores, as the Green Wave came away with a dominant 48-29 win at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Tompkins had punt retun touchdowns of 69 and 76 yards, and also had touchdown runs of 58 and 70 yards, as the Wave dominated the contest from start to finish.

2024: Redshirt freshman QB Jimmy McBride displayed his frustration following one of his whopping 5 turnovers during last season's upset loss.

Last Meeting at Venue: In one of the biggest stunners of head coach D. Geezy's career, unranked Auburn went into the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and absolutely pummeled 8th ranked Tulane 47-24 two seasons ago. The Green Wave could not find an answer to the Tigers' spread rushing attack, as senior RB Corey Chase gashed them for an astonishing 247 yards and 4 touchdowns on the day. It was also a day to forget for then-redshirt freshman QB Jimmy McBride, as he finished with just 157 passing yards and no touchdowns, while throwing 4 interceptions and losing a fumble before being benched in favor of backup QB Obi Clemons for the remainder of the game and for the subsequent next two weeks. The loss marked Tulane's first loss to Auburn since the Wave's return to the SEC in 2014, as they had a perfect 10-0 record against the Tigers prior to the blowout defeat.

2016: Tulane then-true freshman QB Jamie Manning squeezed a second quarter pass between two defenders and into the hands of TE Joel Bowers for a 59-yard touchdown hookup that made the score 27-0 in the second quarter.

Last Meeting (Legacy Classic): Ten seasons ago, 11th ranked Tulane got 360 passing yards and three touchdown throws by emerging star freshman QB Jamie Manning en route to a 40-14 blowout victory over Auburn at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Star RB Reggie Moore led all pass receivers with 9 receptions for 64 yards, while former Green Wave TE Joel Bowers contributed 4 receptions for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Wave improved to 3-0 during their first ever national title run.

Game 2, Year 17 (2026 season): #20 Auburn Tigers at #7 Tulane Green Wave

RB Anthony Brown accounts for 178 scrimmage yards and 3 touchdowns as #7 Tulane rolls past #20 Auburn with ease 52-14 | Freshman RB Jenkins also gets in on the fun, rushes for 132 yards and a long first career touchdown as Green Wave amasses 311 yards on the ground on the night | QB McBride off to a hot start this season, finishes 12 of 13 for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns in rout | Wave hopes to continue building momentum, will host South Carolina next week at Mercedes-Benz Superdome

New Orleans, LA -- Just like the last time these two teams met in New Orleans, #20 Auburn came out like gangbusters - QB Marcus Johnson's 87-yard touchdown run on an option-keeper on just the game's second play from scrimmage quieted the sellout crowd at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. However, behind a super-efficient performance by QB Jimmy McBride along with 311 total rushing yards as a team as well as 3 total touchdowns by RB Anthony Brown, #7 Tulane would score the contest's next 52 points en route to a 52-14 victory over the Tigers in the Green Wave's 2026 home opener, avenging their 47-24 upset home loss to the Tigers two seasons ago. McBride's short pass completion to Brown on the Wave's first offensive play from scrimmage following the Tigers' early fireworks would turn into an 87-yard touchdown, quickly tying the game up at 7-7; and that's how the scoring binge got started.

The Tigers defense had no answer for RB Anthony Brown (pictured above) or any other Green Wave back as the team's backfield committee accounted for 435 scrimmage yards and 6 total touchdowns. Brown accounted for 3 of those scores, including this 87-yard touchdown reception on the Wave's very first offensive play.

Up 10-7 early in the second quarter following a 43-yard field goal conversion late in the first quarter by PK Blake Dunn, the Green Wave ground attack began its assault on the Tigers' overwhelmed defense. True freshman RB Teddy Jenkins' burst past the line of scrimmage resulted in an untouched 77-yard trek to the end zone, giving him his first career touchdown and also giving the Wave a 17-7 advantage. Jenkins, a former 4-star recruit and Marietta, Georgia native, finished the game with 6 carries for 132 yards, good for an eye-popping 22 yards per carry average.

Later in the second quarter, McBride and Brown would connect again, this time from 9 yards away on an option route out of the backfield, extending the Wave lead to 24-7 midway through the quarter. The touchdown reception was Brown's second of the game, and he finished the night with 2 receptions for 96 yards.

On Auburn's next possession, Johnson's ill-advised pass attempt to WR Darrius Bell would get picked off by Green Wave true freshman CB Kurt Blalock, setting his team up with possession of the ball in Tigers' territory with 3:09 remaining in the first half. One play later, McBride found WR Adam Lawson wide open for a 36-yard touchdown that increased their team's lead to 31-7.

On the very first play of the Tigers' ensuing drive, Blalock would have success again, this time stepping in front of WR Peter Swan for another pick. The 4-star athlete recruit this past off-season and former high school quarterback's back-to-back interceptions were the first two of his career and put the Green Wave in position to put the game away. And that they did.

McBride was pinpoint accurate on Saturday, throwing only one incompletion on a pass that was intentionally thrown away. The redshirt junior has thrown a total of 5 touchdown passes and no interceptions so far this season.

Following the young freshman and California native's second forced turnover, a methodical 9-play drive by the Wave would culminate with a 1-yard touchdown run by Brown, giving the team a commanding 38-7 lead just before halftime. Brown finished the game with 178 yards from scrimmage along with 3 total touchdowns.

The Green Wave got possession of the ball first to start the second half and quickly dashed all hopes of a Tigers comeback early.

Led primarily by the running of Brown and Jenkins, the Green Wave marched down the field with ease. McBride's 3-yard touchdown pass to RB Michael Brown Jr. out of the backfield made the score 45-7 and signaled the end of the day for the Wave's starting units on both sides of the ball. McBride finished the night 12 of 13 for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns with his only incompletion coming on an intentional throw-away early in the contest. During head coach D. Geezy's 17-year tenure, McBride's 350.2 quarterback rating is bested only by QB Bryce Allen's 397.9 effort in 2021, when the former Wave signal caller finished 13 of 17 for 416 yards and 6 touchdowns in a 52-27 home victory over Ole Miss.

"We simply clicked on all cylinders today and I am proud of the way both the offense and defense played," said Geezy, who now holds a 12-1 career record versus Auburn.

"I wouldn't call this a 'complete' game, because we put the ball on the ground a couple of times on offense and also gave up a couple of long touchdown runs defensively, but this was an impressive win for us and it gives us a shot of momentum as we get into the meat of our schedule."

Tulane (2-0) will host South Carolina (2-0) next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Gamecocks have won 2 of their last 3 games versus the Green Wave, including a 45-17 blowout in Columbia in 2022 and a 48-24 blowout in the 2020 SEC Championship Game.

Blalock's second interception came on Auburn's very next offensive play from scrimmage after his first pick, and it would eventually lead to a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Anthony Brown that made the score 38-7 and essentially put the game away before halftime.
