Re: MLB The Show 18 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just finished up a fun series against the Astros in my Rangers franchise.

First game was a slugfest as the Astros won 13-7. We bounced back to take the next 2 games 5-3 and 4-2. That last game was not easy as the Astros had 12 hits but we somehow kept them from having a big inning. On the opposite side we only had 6 hits but two big homeruns from Mazara and Gallo were the difference.

18-24 on the season and 8 games out of first in the AL West.

This is my thoughts on Altuve after this series!

I'm a huge Rangers fan and I'm hating to see them going through a rebuild phase. But at the same time it would be a fun process to play with some of the good pieces they have received. Anybody have a good franchise story with the rangers that they've done. Little trading just trusting the draft and free agent pick ups?

In need of some serious help here guys. I am in my 4th year with the White Sox and just noticed at the beginning of this year that all my players have lower speed rating in game than they do at the roster screen. For example: Moncada is an 87 speed but in the game that drops to 81. I signed Bogaerts as well and he drops from 73 to 67. It seems most of my players are -6 speed but I cannot figure out why. I fired my manager but he was only responsible for -1 speed, the other coaches do not bring speed down. I also checked to see if this still happens when players have full energy and it does. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Try checking out the moral of those players. I don't know why speed only would be changed but moral can have an effect on alot of different things. I've noticed other attributes that were different in game then they are out of it but never paid that much attention to it.

I actually just noticed this last night with Adrian Beltre when I was editing his cleats I went into the attributes section and noticed his speed slider said 18 but in game on the basepaths it's always shown 21 and was a little perplexed by that. Maybe the slider shows real time like what the player card shows with morale, progression, and regression? Will have to check when I get home.

We have lost 3 in a row and have fallen to 2 games below .500

I don’t know what to do to turn things around. It seems to be a different issue from game to game.

              Frustrating

The reds meanwhile have opened up a 6 1/2 game lead on the division

I actually thought of this too. But even the "Ecstatic" players are losing their speed too. It seems to be constant and all players are losing speed. When I changed to a Manager who adds speed, this helped bring it back up a little, but the overall effect was still down. I tried simulating half the season and it was still in effect. I also traded for players midseason and immediately their speed was lowered in-game.

There has to be some team effect that I am not seeing or don't understand. I cannot figure it out for the life of me...

I feel like it has to be some sort of team effect. Moral does not seem to matter, since the "Angry" and "Ecstatic" players are all losing the same amount of speed. One thing I did that changed it was switching my coach. Renteria had -1 speed, and I got Mattingly with +3 speed. This made the net jump from -6 to -2, but the whole team is still -2. I checked my other coaches and none have a negative speed effect.

May get around to posting regularly about mine here. Don't have a favorite MLB team, but went with the Phillies because of Nola. Legend difficulty, started off the season 8-1. Sweeps of Mets/Marlins and dropped the second game to the Braves. Switched to Mike Lowe's sliders and have now improved to 10-1 with two wins over the Reds.

I'm torn about what to do with my IF. Was platooning Franco/Kingery at 3B, but Franco started 0-14 and felt out the lineup. Then Crawford goes down with with a minor injury and Franco has had two HRs since returning to the starting lineup. Kingery/Crawford (when healthy) are hitting better than Hernandez.

I've got to work on tweaking the sliders more to my liking, right now neither me/CPU can strike each other out and I feel like I'm hitting for more power that I should be.

                      All Star Break - 2021

This team is stupid. I hate them. 45-50 overall. 14-23 since May 1st and have lost 4 straight heading into the break. We are now 10.5 games back of the Indians and 6 games out of the WC spot. Every night we find a different way to blow the game. Starters get it together and we score 0. Offense shows up and the bullpen decides to take the night off. Its frustrating.

                      Standings
                      Spoiler

The offense has regressed a bit. We are hitting .257/.326/.403 down from .267/.331/.426. We are 17th in Runs with 390, 23rd in Doubles with 146, 5th with 21 Triples and 21st with 98 HR. Our 62 Stolen Bases are 17th and we are 10th with a 69% success rate.

                      Stats
                      Spoiler

2nd half O'Hearn is showing up right on time. Im hoping he is struggling due to the 500 different lineups ive used over the last month. Still our best hitter so far but clearly getting worse the longer we go. Gonna start sitting him against LHP again. Cheslor Cuthbert will take his spot.

Moving Soler back to the top of the lineup has clearly worked out great. Been moving him back and forth between 1 and 2 trying to get something to work. If we dont turn things around here soon we may look to move him at the deadline.

Bonifacio has not been what we have come to expect. Currently has the lowest OPS of his career. Hoping its like O'Hearn and we just keep moving him around to much.

Salvy is trash. Even with a high BB% and lower K%. Reliable on defense still. But with so many other guys struggling we really need him to step up. Free agent after this year and im not sure we can keep paying him 30 million with this kind of production.

Whit Merrifield is losing his starting spot. Ive tried to give him time but its not working. With him being able to play so many positions we arent gonna trade him. He will move to the bench and should still see some pretty regular playing time giving other guys days off. Jim Albrecht will be coming up to replace him. Bubba Starling will be sent down.

The pitching has managed to get worse. Mainly thanks to the bullpen. We are now 27th in the league with a 4.73 ERA. 21st with 5 shutouts, 27th with 121 HR allowed. We are still good at not giving up walks. 5th with 301 allowed. And we still cant strike many guys out. 26th with 709.

                      Stats
                      Spoiler

The starters have slowly started to figure things out. Hahn continues to lead the rotation. And he is doing that even with a lower K/9 and higher BB/9 than last year. He will take over as the #1 for the rest of the season.

Duffy has gotten better. Still not close to what we expect but he is getting there. He has lost himself a lot of money so far this year. His BB/9 is up by 1.5 his HR/9 is twice as high as last year. And his K/9 is also up by almost 1.

A.J. Cole has been good after taking over for Watson. A full run better than his FIP says he should be. Like pretty much everyone his HR/9 is up. But his other stats are better. Higher K/9 and lower BB/9.

Lets just pretend the BP doesnt exist. Aside from Keller everyone has been ****ting the bed left and right. Diaz blew 3 straight saves, seems like Herrer has given up a run every time he comes out. Zimmer was hurt for a bit. Skoglund got sent down and replace by Trevor Oaks. Not much changed. Im ready to drop 100M on relievers this offseason.

67 games left in the season. 30 against teams at or above .500. I no longer think we can finish at .500. Im not sure we can even get back to 75 wins again. Making another lineup change hoping it pays off. Gonna give it more than a week this time. Gonna explore a few trades. Try and bring in some relievers. Got plenty of talen at SS and a couple young starters to work with.

I originally started my first franchise with the Phillies (my favorite team) and had the same infield decisions to make when it comes to those guys. Now I ended up trading Franco away and moved the King Slayer to 3B but then in my second season I ended up moving Hernandez to SS while keeping Kingery at 2B. Eventually a slot needs to be opened for him because he is the future so you're gonna have to figure out what's best for your franchise. In my Padred franchise now I ended up trading Hernandez away from the Phillies to the Dodgers to open up second base for Kingery as I think IRL the Phillies will end up moving either Hernandez or Francho to make Kingery the man at either second or third.

In my Rangers Chise I'm embracing the rebuilding coming up, just curious what people think. I don't want to go after a superstar right away I want to build out of the draft and from what I have now. But do you think you have to at least offer something this off-season for Many and Bryce? If not then it's like we aren't even trying to get on the right track, am I right?

I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer on this, it’s your world and whatever is right for you will be the path you need to take. If it was me, instead of spending 20 million per year on a great player, I would spend 20 million on 3 good players. To each his own.

That's kinda how I thought. Id love Manny for for my 3rd base but I want to draft someone for that position. And in RF I love Nomar, thought I would move him to LF but Willie Calhoun is 97 POT do I don't want to block his path to the Biggs.

This will be my last year purchasing this game until they fix this franchise garbage. After year 4, no matter what i do, my club options are impossible to renew. Other times, ill quick manage a game only for it to softlock me and i cant advance. Players i scout or draft disappear into the ether. It's getting worse every year now. I get where the money goes for the game now but there are still plenty of people who still enjoy regular franchise. It's sad its come to this.
