Parries: Should They Return?
So recently I've been seeing a few posts where people have been asking for the dev team to add parries back to the game. Its interesting to me because I seem to recall that Parries were one of the biggest things that the community wanted removed from UFC 2. Some just wanted the counter widow gone. Some wanted the entire mechanic gone.
So I'm trying to get a feel for what people want currently. Vote in the poll above and leave your feed back below.63Yes, the mechanic/animation and the counter window0%1Yes but only the counter window0%0Yes but only the mechanic/amimation0%13Yes but only if you can parry straight strikes.0%8NO0%41Tags: None -
Re: Parries: Should They Return?
I was one of the people that couldn't stand parries in EA UFC 2. I didn't like the way they paused the flow of the game and allowed a free counter follow up, but as the game stands now with the amount of combos and strikes thrown I wouldn't mind parries to make a return. As long as they don't allow the fighter to get a free counter after a parry i'm all for it.

Re: Parries: Should They Return?
I’d like for parries to hook/uppercuts give a free clinch
And allow parried for straights but no counter windowComment

I would think that too if I hadnt seen a number of posts specifically asking for parries. Thats why I started the poll to get more info.Comment

Re: Parries: Should They Return?
I would like to see the parry mechanic return without the free counter window and freeze.
The revamped parries should basically be the option to quickly deflect/counter (blockable) or catch/clinch (deniable) like the kick catch mechanic now.
They should be mobile and have no free counter window which froze you. It should look more like irl like the gifs below than the previous games parry.

Re: Parries: Should They Return?
Just a blocking animation that is as basic as a hand moving across and catching/deflecting the punch away. It shluld just opperate as a defensive tool, no counter windoe, no freeze, just an extra block. This will allow us a defensive tool against block breaking combos and jabs and straights, just like leg checks they will be susceptible to fients and if they parry the wrong punch. Basically if someone trys to parry a fient there will be a window that they are open for hook/uppercut.
An example of this is reality is yancy vs erick silva. Erick parrys a fient jab from yancy as is caught with and rear overhand to a lead hook combo.
The parry should only stop block breakdown from jabs and straights and to balance it out have a short timing window as well if done wrong, leave you susceptible to round punches.Comment

Re: Parries: Should They Return?
Parries allows 100% stop opponent’s Combo and allow to counter strike first b/ of of gotten Frame advantage.
Does successful Sway of first strikes of opponent’s combo allow the same?Comment

Re: Parries: Should They Return?
Mostly because I am still scarred from 2 years of dealing with a broken parry mechanic.
Honestly I just don't think it is necessary for the game right now, and another added mechanic like this is just another thing players might, and probably will, find a way to exploit.
In a perfect world, there is nothing wrong with what you suggested, but I don't really see much appeal in it either. I'd rather we just play it safe and keep parries out of the series for now. So I vote no.Comment

Re: Parries: Should They Return?
If they actually work without giving us some Matrix freeze, then cool. Otherwise, don't bother.Comment

Re: Parries: Should They Return?
The whole point of a parry is for a free counter. The best thing they have done is remove parries, they were absolutely tragic in UFC2.I was one of the people that couldn't stand parries in EA UFC 2. Re: Parries: Should They Return?
I think it's imperative, when introducing a new feature (such as a parry) or trying to fix the distance fighting issue in any way, to really make sure the meta and attacking approach no longer works. Because okay, they added the pawing, which I think is quite cool and provides some (!) alternative, but still, if the guy really wants to play the phone booth game - you're at a huge disadvantage, to put it mildly. Because he won't stop throwing at the sight of the pawing, he'll just combo you until your back touches the cage, from there it's combos until you fight back, where he'll just hold block, rinse and repeat until you're dead, because once against the cage, there's nowhere to go. I do feel the backwards jab and pawing help in some cases but the issue still remains - proper, UFC 2 style circling which actually covered enough distance to, you know, circle out, I think will help the game a lot.Comment
