Reach & Height
We see this with fighters like Overeem, Jon Jones, Gustafsson, Rockhold, Weidman in my opinion. These fighters are under used for this reason from my perspective, so I'm just wondering if everyone else thinks that an excess of height and reach is a disadvantage in this game. I think this is one of the most important things to look at nearing the end of the patch cycle, pressure fighting with short guys has been the number one strat for a long time now.27Yes, it's a big disadvantage currently0%8Yes, it's a minor disadvantage currently0%16No, it's balanced against shorter fighters currently0%2No, it is an advantage against shorter fighters currently0%1Tags: None -

Re: Reach & Height
Yeah it's hard. I think if elbows had more than a 1 millimeter range, that would help quite a bit. But they have to literally be standing against you for the regular standing elbow strikes to land.Comment

Re: Reach & Height
also, lead elbow still doesn't work 75% of the time it lands and does 0 damage.Comment

Re: Reach & Height
There's really no way to utilize height and reach advantage. It's too easy to get close and stay close with a shorter fighter. I get by with taller fighters, but boy do I feel the speed disadvantage when I use Volkov against a decent Cormier.Comment

Re: Reach & Height
as much as they slander me for saying pressure fighting is op it is distance management 6 patches in still hasnt been fixed. they take only the supposed elite players opinions. even not holding high block as long as they move forward you wont get them out of your face.you can teep kick but theyre easy to catch. the push is useless.
mindless 4 peices are rewarded. technical fighting is viewed as "boring" by people who only became fans when mcgregor became popular. its not running. its not being a coward. the players who say this are the biggest spammers in the community.they refuse to lower their output- the appropriate counter. instead they demand it be nerfed. long guard is useless as it forces you directly back against the cage.
when confronted with statistics they deflect by referencing something not relevant to the situation. they voice they dont care by saying "aggression sorry not sorry" they dont care if you want realism. spam is worse this game then ufc 2. you cannot buff outside fighting and inside fighting at the same time or its a useless buff. dominick cruz and jones are impossible to replicateComment

As for a direct reply for the thread, I think maybe instead of doing a 2 frame start up, just do 1 frame, then the disadvantage is still there. A shorter fighter should be at a disadvantage against someone bigger than them because the taller fighter can hit them from further away (which is needless to say)
This 2 frame thing would work and be fine imo if we could reliably fight outsideComment

I’m with you king. They just don’t hear us I feel nearly exactly the same way you do.

Just give a power decrease on hooks/uppercuts for the taller fighter in phone booth rangeComment

Re: Reach & Height
My "Main" is Gustafsson and i feel he is a beast in this game tbh. But using other fighters like reem and rockhold i rly notice what you are talking about, it is idd a little frustrating.

Re: Reach & Height
In UT, De Randamie striker is a beast. Shes so tall / max reach and with 100 speed/100 power, good luck to close the distance when she wait you and trow stationary strike.
A lot of top 20 play with de Randamie. After some hard lose (i have namajunas), i understand why.Comment

Re: Reach & Height
The lead elbow is utter trash and fails to connect 50% of the time even when the opponent is standing perfectly still. I called it out to devs but not sure if anything is being done about it.
On the topic of range in general, you have to make sure you're hitting people on the end of your range with tall guys. If you do, they do a lot of damage. A max range Jon Jones hook hurts a lot. It's just keeping people on that range that's hard, which is where elbows (at least the rear elbow) comes in.
You absolutely can't use a tall guy's power punches in a phone booth against someone with shorter arms as they will get a damage bonus and you will get a damage and speed penalty.
I agree with a lot of guys here that the shove needs to be beefed up, which would give longer fighters a better chance against smothering stocky guys.Last edited by ZombieRommel; 08-07-2018, 08:34 AM.ZombieRommel on YouTube - UFC3 coverage has begun!Comment

Re: Reach & Height
The rear elbow is a really good strike. Great priority. Guys with long arms (Jones) have good range on it also.

Re: Reach & Height
You're absolutely right about using the optimal range for your strikes, but I just don't think it's that simple. It's much easier to feint to make taller fighters whiff and then pressure them relentlessly given how slow the strikes are and the head movement benefits that shorter fighters get. I think it's easier to pressure than it is to maintain range across the board, and I would love for you to try that against me or any top 10 player really. The only time I lose to a Jon Jones is if they catch me with that gimmicky elbow combo. The speed of strikes greatly effects the positioning game at the higher levels. I don't think a better shove is gonna be enough personally.
I agree it's definitely easier to pressure generally and takes more skill to use a longer fighter, but it's possible. People are really sleeping on the rear elbow in particular.ZombieRommel on YouTube - UFC3 coverage has begun!Comment
