If anyone has the free time to do semi-accurate equipment edits a la what I did with Billy Sims, JC Watts, Kellen Winslow Sr. and Joe Montana, please have at it. I'm likely going to get started tonight but it'll be a long slog until I'm satisfied.

Just curious? I'm not at all familiar with the editor... can rankings be changed to match the 78 rankings? If I recall there is a 1995 roster out there which had the correct rankings.

Yes it is possible to do and easy with either editor: EA DB editor or NCAA dynasty editor . The 1.36mb file contents can be used with editor. Under Teams Tab we can edit 2 columns labeled tcrk and tmrk --will show the numbered rankings (but to prevent possible game freezes no 2 teams should have the same ranking number; later I found having same number may not matter.).

Ok Done. I replaced the other offline file with AP Preseason Poll version.

They only ranked 20 teams back in the day, and the link showed next 4 teams waiting to get in. I took into account week to week polls to see who entered the poll in later weeks and made them the next 15 or so teams, and just left the remaining teams alone. In game, only top 25 show up. So 21 to 25 ended up like this:
21 Ariz State
22 BYU
23 San Diego St
24 Stanford
25 Maryland

Answer to your question is yes.

I have no idea if i'll have time for it, but i would love to try to get football/pictures of the 1978 Tech team and get the equipment right. At least the big players.

I got the '78 file from pinbw. Im actually doing this; started about 3 weeks ago. I started out with the intention of only doing a few teams, then said the hell with it, go for the gusto.

Eliminating equipment that hadn't yet been implemented in '78 (so the helmets are either Standard, Air XP, or Shutt: I hate they use helmets today, the look SO big and elongated). Also eliminating the back pad, the knee braces, the visors, the QB wristband, handwarmers; only wish the game had the old school neck braces, the J-pad (ha!) and some of the old school facemasks to really make it look in the era!

Also I'm re-ranking many of the players as well to bring them down, especially the speed attributes (which the game just always seemed to overweight).

Should be done by end of August. If anyone is interested I will put the file in my locker when done.

Forgot to mention: doing the big conferences as well as major independents. Not doing the likes of Utah St, Arkansas State, the MAC, etc. At least not this round; perhaps over the winter after the season.
