    AlTito's NHL 19 Sliders

    Hey everyone!

    For those interested, here are the sliders I use right now in NHL 19. As always, I try to get a good mix of fun and realism, with a sloppy gameplay and a lot of loose pucks. I will be making tweaks while I continue playing and I will try to keep this post as updated as possible to reflect the changes I make.

    According to your skill level, you can play on All-Star or Superstar difficulties. You should start with CPU Difficulty Adjustment at 0 and if it becomes too easy, you may increase it by a few clicks. You can play the game on 6 to 8 minutes periods, but I suggest you to play 8 minutes if you want to get more realistic stats.

    Don't be afraid to adjust things to your liking or needs, these sliders are only there as a base. Have fun!

    ADVICE: I highly suggest you to raise Puck Control before the beginning of a shootout. Also, if you find puck control to be an issue in general gameplay, try lowering the Skating Impact slider in the puck control section.

      It's still pretty early, I was only able to play a few games like I said, but I love what I saw so far. I think the game was improved in a lot of ways gameplay wise and I hope they won't over-tune it like they do sometimes, without giving us the ability to revert it back offline. The sliders are only a starting point right now, but I will have way more time to play this weekend and should come back with some adjustments/reviews in the next few days.

        Here is some gameplay footage against the CPU using Altito's sliders. This has a lot of extended play so its not like my usual video game summaries.

        I simmed to the playoffs using the Caps, playing a few of the regular season games before putting Al's sliders in. This is Game One of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

        Please watch this on a Computer monitor or on a TV through your console as cell phone screens are simply too small to capture whats going on here.

        Truthfully there was constantly something happening I wanted to record, but hey...anyways, here you go.

        Thoughts about your sliders so far after just one game. If anything, once again, they are a great jumping off point. I intend on playing a few games with them before coming to any conclusions as to what I feel definitively needs tinkering with. But so far, so good.

          Played my first game with these in my Sharks franchise. It was Opening night against the Ducks. I'm using 10 minute periods and the CPU difficulty at 0. I won 3-2. It was an absolutely awesome game. There was nothing cheese at all and not one instance of the CPU zipping the puck around crazily or anything else wonky. I'm not sure if that's the sliders or not, but it felt good.

          I had one great goal and two flukey goals that were something you could see in hockey from time to time. They didn't feel staged or any of that, just natural. The first goal I took a shot with Meier from the slot but Getzlaf was right on him so it was actually pretty decent defense. He put stick on stick but the puck took a weird direction and fluttered up and just got over Gibson's blocker side shoulder. It was super cool and just one of those "it's hockey" type goals.

          The second goal I scored was also with Meier. This was a play I just got by the defense with Thornton and I passed one back door for a tap in. Henrique was left covering Meier so not what you'd want if your the Ducks. The third goal I took a shot that was stopped by Gibson and Josh Manson was attempting to kick the puck to his stick to clear the rebound. Karlsson put his stick in between Manson's skate and blade of his stick which deflected it in the net. All of those times where pucks in those situations may go right through a stick, didn't happen. Pretty sweet to see. I'm thinking a lot of the fortunate type goals I had in the game are truly due to the sliders and fact that EA actually focused on better stick and body contact with the puck.

          As for stats I really wish I would have looked at the final ones. Both teams were in the 71% range for passing accuracy. Shots were about high 20's to low 30's. It's actually amazing, the first 6 minutes of the game there were no shots for either team. It was due to the sloppiness and also the pressure the CPU and myself applied. I don't think I've ever seen that in an NHL game where there are no shots at all for that long.

          I only have three things I saw that could possibly be looked at after one game.
          First is big hits. There were a ton of those. This may just be the game, but I would say there were about 10 instances where guys got absolutely tattooed. Second, is possibly think about making puck control a little bit better. I thought at times guys like Perry and Silfverberg lost the puck just a bit too easily when stick handling. I didn't check their rating for that category though so possibly it's low and that's why. This should not be drastic though, only a tick here or there if it's decided to be done. It's in no way a severe issue at all. The last suggestion is the board effect for guys who are picking up the puck or just running into it themselves. There were a few times where it seemed a tad too much. Again, not severe, it'd just be a tick or two.

          Overall though a very good first game. I'm going to mow the lawn and then go right back to playing game two in LA. Super fun though and very impressed with this game. Hopefully that mindset sticks for me. I'm legitimately thinking about purchasing this on Day 1 for the first time since NHL 14.

            Great review! Also good to see you're loving the game with the sliders.

            As for your concerns, I would suggest you to try (and for anybody with similar ones):
            - Hitting Power lowered to 40 (5 clicks down)
            - Puck Control increased to 5 (5 clicks up)
            - both Board Effect sliders lowered to 15 (5 clicks down)

            Hope you'll continue to enjoy the game as much!

              I also share the same concerns, except for the hitting. It seemed fine to me so maybe you just had an odd game, or maybe i did. I totally agree on the issue of puck control and thats where i usually deviate from Al's plan. These guys are the best players in the world and even your average fourth liner can carry the puck pretty flawlessly when not under pressure. If Al can find the best slop/skill balance then i think ill stick with these. Gonna raise puck control to 20 and see how that goes.

              Im all for sloppy organic and dynamic play, but not at the expense of the skill which saturates todays NHL

                What's the aggression like? Last year I individually edited 5-6 players on every NHL, AHL, WHL, OHL and QMJHL team to have 99 aggressiveness to see if I could make aggressive players like Tom Wilson, Ryan Reaves, hit every good chance they got. It was okay, but in simulations (Be A Pro), the hit totals were basically the same with the actual aggression slider maxed out, as they were at the default. Even in Franchise Mode the hit leaders were pretty low. I guess it's a little unrealistic to expect the simulation aspect to be perfect.

                I love playoff hockey and NHL 17/18 played pretty much the way I wanted it to, except I couldn't get the aggressiveness where I wanted it, so every game felt like a regular season game regardless of aggressiveness. I'm hoping this year the aggressiveness slider affects hitting more than it has in past years.

                  I made a few updates to the sliders in the last couple of days…

                  In one of them, I lowered Skating Impact to 20 (from 40) in the Puck Control section. I was looking to prevent the few times in a game where a player would loose the puck while skating. After quite a lot of testing though, I really prefer the overall gameplay when this slider is at 40 and the looser puck feeling it gives, so I finally reverted it back today. I tried hard to go with 20, but it simply changed the whole experience for me, so I decided not to continue with it, at least for now. I fully understand guys here who don't like having players loosing the puck once in a while, even if it's only a few times a game, and that's why I tried to find a solution for it. I even tried it as low as 5, but if I didn't like it at 20, I can assure you that 5 isn't for me lol. However, for you guys who are having issues with the puck control, try with the Skating Impact at 20 at first, and if it's still not enough, try it at 5 and it will then probably do the job for you.

                  As for the changes still being used, I lowered Fatigue Recovery to 40 (from 45), since players definitely seem to recover faster in this year's game. I also lowered Goalie Passing to 40 (from 45).

                    Great to see you’re testing sliders again this year!! [emoji106] I’ve used your sliders since NHL 17 and they make the game a lot better. I don’t get my copy until Friday [emoji52] I wanted a physical disc version with Gretzky, but learned he was only on the digital versions of the game 🤬 I look forward to plugging your slider set in this weekend and start playing!!                       Quick question....is it possible to use the same slider set from NHL 18 in this years version? I know EA has introduced the real skating engine which makes the players maneuver on the ice better. I’m getting the game after work and I was going to start by using last years set as a base to build off of....

                        There should be no problem about starting from last year's sliders. However, I suggest you to start from the sliders in this thread, right now they are really really similar to the ones I used last year.

                              Yes, there will be updates coming this weekend. I'm trying to find the right balance related to game speed to get a simulation gameplay, I'm still not totally satisfied about it. I will also make one or two minor changes tonight about hits and poke checks.
