CPU Players/Teams Not Playing Like Real Life

Noticing too many cpu players/teams not playing like themselves when playing the cpu.

Ben Simmons is super aggressive hunting shots and shooting 20 foot fade aways. Simmons averaged 12 shots a game last year yet cpu Simmons is taking that many shots in the 1st qtr.

Giannis is a cross between Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Teen Wolf, and Usain Bolt.

Teams that played at a slow pace like the Kings and Bucks play super fast. Showtime Lakers fast.

Many teams do not move the ball. A lot of zero pass, dribble, dribble, hunt for a shot against good defense and get rewarded at the end of the shot clock with a make. This happens way too much especially with back up guards.

Zero teams play body up pressure swipe at the basketball defense 100% of the time for 48 minutes. That's the dumbest thing the devs put in the game. It bares zero resemblance to basketball. Period. Bad look.

Hugging players from behind and sticking to them is a foul. Not good defense. Sorry.

Zach Randolph cannot chase down block Isaiah Thomas.

Not every player has an array of low post pump fakes, step throughs, and up and unders. Yet any scrub guard can get to the paint and go full on Kevin McHale.

Even really fast good defenders cannot outrun a pass. I promise you. Yet you can have 2 steps on a defender and while the ball is in the air that defender can run past you and be in front of you in good defensive position before you catch the ball. After you catch the ball and start to dribble sure. But outrunning the pass? Nah.

I think the cpu is overemphasizing finding a favorable matchup vs playing to tendencies. Giannis and Simmons are mismatches because of their size and skillset. But they play so out of character that it makes them near impossible to defend. You can't sag off because they eat up any space you give them by just gliding, sliding, past you or into your body.

in mycareer itโ€™s better this year . Players who are scorers play like themselves a lot. Lockdowns too.

I do agree though that playmakers like Simmons arenโ€™t playing like themselves .

Stop playing on rookie mode. I can tell 100% youโ€™re playing on rookie because last night i played against rockets on superstar and The man James Harden would literally make all his shots and CP3 was playing like himself. Everytime i would bring the double to harden, he would see the court and pass it well. Corner 3s and everything. Won the game by only 1 point. So idk wat your talking about

Ummmm Ok. You're 100% wrong in suggesting the mode I play on. But you are all knowing apparently. And you don't have to know what I'm talking about. Because I do.

That being said, sure some players play like themselves. Some are better represented. But playmakers that dribble out the clock and look for their own shots all game happens in this game. Plain and simple.

I play primarily on All-Star. If I'm playing with the Rockets, Warriors, or surprisingly the Lakers I can kill the cpu on SS. Playing as a lesser team or a team without a superstar is tough on All-Star for me.

Sounds like some editing needs to be done. But thats the beauty of having full customization. Its at your finger tips. If Simmons is shooting too much then lower his shot Tendency. Oh and I agree with you. He is shooting too mich and The Process aint shooting enough.

Not sure if OP is talking about my career or another mode, but here are some of Simmons' tendencies.

All should be at 0, or very close to.

            Mid range 5
            Mid range spot up 40
            Mid range off screens 30
            Sput up 3s 5
            Off screen 3s 5
            Contested mid range 25
            Contested 3s 5
Step back back mid range 35
Pull mid range off drive 10

Yeah they barely get the ball to Embiid.

So far I've played play now games because I usually wait for the first big patch because the game is usually so different after the patch.

I think 2K rosters are to blame. For example, they still list Kevin Durant at 6'9". ..nuff said.

This has been 2K Achilles heel for years- TENDENCIES. Your best bet is to wait and download a custom roster from the roster makers that have edited the players tendencies to mimic real life gameplay as times go on.The SimWorld roster and VannwolfHawks roster saved NBA2K18 for me. They edited the teams/players tendencies to the point that the players played almost identical to real life basketball. After playing a few CPU games, I already feel like a lot of players are not playing like they actually do in real life.

I don't understand why 2k can't get tendencies right. Take stats and translate into tendencies. I mean at least get them in the ball park

I know last year they eventually fixed some guys. Day 1 playing against cpu Michael Kidd-Gilcrest and he was running to the the corner taking a ton of 3's. They fixed that. I remember several years ago when defenders were playing this vacuum sealed tight defense and I asked why would they press up on Kenyon Martin 30 feet from the basket like he's going to shoot and that got fixed as well.

I play offline against the cpu and for the most part players on the cpu teams play pretty close to real life. But when guys that average 6 rebounds a game are grabbing 30 boards or guys that average 12 shots a game are routinely taking 30 shots that just doesn't sit well with me and otherwise detracts from a fun and immersive experience.

Re: CPU Players/Teams Not Playing Like Real Life

Just fired up a game on All-Star. Me (Nuggets) at home vs cpu 76ers. This is the Sixers first 8 possessions.

76ers win opening tap. Simmons no pass possession shoots fade away baseline (miss).

Next 76ers possession Simmons dribbles the clock down to 8 seconds passes to Reddick gets the ball right back hits a 15 footer.

Next possession Simmons zero pass possession works his way to the post, misses shot, Embiid follow up.

Next two trips up the court they inbound to Reddick. He dribbles up the court and dumps it down to Simmons in the post both times. One miss (step back) One make (spin to basket dunk).

Next trip ball on left wing Simmons shoots a step back 18 footer (miss)

Next possession Simmons finds a cutting Covington for a dunk.

Next possession no pass Simmons gets fouled on a 18 foot fade away from the left elbow.

So in the first 3 minutes of the game Simmons is 2 for 6 and shot the ball on every possession except one. Was taking his 7th shot when he got fouled. Embiid got zero touches. Just a putback. Covington 1 shot. Outside of bringing the ball up court on a couple of possessions Reddick got exactly one touch and immediately passed the ball back to Simmons.

I know it won't continue to play out this way but Simmons is on pace to shoot 70 times....

I understand Jamal Murray can't check Simmons and the cpu is obviously seeing this as a mismatch but to totally abandon any semblance of an offense in favor of having a player play totally out of character is an odd choice.
