Year 2 - Week 8
At Texas A&M
Texas A&M came in to the year ranked 22 and had high hopes. While they haven't lived up to expectations this year, they still have a very talented team and it showed today. Raymond Breedlove was plagued with a bad situation. Early in the game he had two throws where defenders made great plays on the ball, jumping routes that I haven't personally seen much of in the game. Later in the game, down and looking to make it closer, a receiver tipped a would-be touchdown right in to the hands of a defender. And finally, with time clocking down and Alaska down by 17, a desperation throw was also picked off.
So yes, Raymond Breedlove's second start had four picks. But until the last quarter where he had to just start slinging it, he had a decent line. He was productive, the team incorporated more option and they really tried to stick to the run game. Unfortunately, the Aggies had too much firepower at the quarterback position. Robertson had 317 yards on 75% passing, while adding 137 yards and 3 scores on the ground. His five total touchdowns lead the way. Other than a boneheaded (and, frankly, stupid) pick six with under 2 minutes remaining, he was virtually flawless. The Aggies won 45-35.
"It's tough. I knew when we started the program that it would be hard. We'll continue to work on the gameplan, and hopefully we'll have a game soon where we can play actual football and not this backyard nonsense we've been playing. I don't like throwing the ball like we do," said Coach Hardaway. This is the second straight week he's mentioned the amount of passes.
"Coach, how do you plan on accomplishing that?"
"It's going to be on the quarterbacks. Our scheme is going to change and we're going to start using their feet more. Jeremy is the most athletic quarterback we have, and we didn't utilize that strength early on. So we're going to work with both- Raymond will start and Jeremy will play as well. We'll ride the hot hand."
