Re: NHL to Seattle?
2021-22 season is when they'll begin play. Some little things I caught when they were talking about the arena timeline. Bettman did say 21-22 is better because of no uncertainty about if the arena will be done in time. But later on, Leiweke was talking about March-April as a time for the arena to open up. So that really does sound like the arena wouldn't have been ready for Fall 2020 if they likely won't open until Spring 2021.
Sucks NHL is staying with this 8 team/4 division format. It's my least fave division format of the major leagues, and least fave playoff format. Although he didn't comment on the playoff format, I imagine it stays the same unfortunately. Why can't we just have 2 division winners and no 2-3 seeds in division facing off. Like I've said many times, it'd suck being the 2nd best team in your conference, and your reward is playing the 3 seed in the conference in round 1(and similarly, 3 seed having to play 2 seed, and not even get home ice for at least first 2 rounds if they were to win.
Surprised nobody at the media conference asked about decision to keep the 8 team/4 division format. Or ask about playoffs.
As for the name, Bettman basically shot down the Metropolitans name for obvious reasons(being the name of a division already).
I'm still partial to Seattle Emeralds. Though of some rumored ones from awhile back, Firebirds would be a cool one.Comment

Re: NHL to Seattle!
Now that it's official, we can re-visit the registered names the Seattle group has. Similar to the Golden/Black Knights situation in Vegas,an already registered name is more than likely what we'll have as the official name. Except in this case, I'm sure there won't be any lawsuits or anything.

Re: NHL to Seattle!
There are a few decent ones on that list, but I'd pass on about 2/3s of them. Especially Firebirds... c'mon man. It makes way more sense for Flint in the OHL, but I guess it didn't stop Vegas.Comment

Re: NHL to Seattle!
The most logical NHL expansion target in generations...totally untapped market with a huge metro area (2, really, if you figure at least some Portland fans will hop on the bandwagon) that has shown it will support non-Big 3 league pro sports franchises (sadly that's the NHL's reality in the States....).
I continue to like the Sockeyes. I'm a big fan of location-specific team names and it rolls nicely off the tongue. Not to mention the logo/mascot possibilities are endless. I suppose Emeralds is okay, but I prefer a bit more....dynamism in the team name, I guess? Sea Lions is another good one, but with another similarly-named team in town, I guess there's some name/city branding but that'd be about all for the advantages there. Also, any pro sports team with the word "Lions" in it is just asking for failure....Comment

NHL to Seattle!
Sockeyes just seems so soft. It’s salmon. I eat salmon. Lol
I’m not in love with any of them to be honest. Emeralds is best option by far, though. Not impressed by the list overall.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds
