Chambers sets suspension for Lane, Cox

      Adam Rittenberg, ESPN Senior Writer
      September 9, 2013
      -------------------------------------------
Mount Pleasant, MI - Roughly two weeks after sophomores Matt Lane and Brandon Cox were arrested for drunk driving and underage drinking, and promptly suspended indefinitely, Coach Chambers has announced that both will carry out a 12-game suspension, including the two games they have already missed.
Originally posted by Central Michigan HC Andrew Chambers

A 12-game suspension means that both players will miss the entire regular season. The only possibility that these two players could get some playing time is if the Chippewas make it past the regular season to the postseason in a playoff way.

Both players issued a statement to the coaching staff and the team for Central Michigan.

Cox has, reportedly, finished his community service, while Lane has two more hours to participate in.

Peterson given starting role over Floyd

        Adam Rittenberg, ESPN Senior Writer
        September 11, 2013
        -------------------------------------------
Mount Pleasant, MI - Five days after the game against Eastern Michigan, and after Fred Floyd was given the position of tight end, Chambers has announced that Julius Peterson, previous owner of the position, will start against Michigan State.

Originally posted by Central Michigan HC Andrew Chambers

The game against Michigan State will be Peterson’s first start and game this season. The first game of the season against Northern Iowa was missed by Peterson, as he was suspended from the game for showing up to practice late six times. Then, he missed the second game as Floyd was put in and never came out.

We will have to see if this battle between the two will come to end soon or if there’s more to behold between the two. Although Peterson has not seen the playing field at all this season, he is the better tight end of the two and should get the job down for the Chippewas.

Fisher cleared for game against Michigan State

          September 12, 2013
          -------------------------------------------
Mount Pleasant, MI - Junior linebacker, Alex Fisher, has been cleared to play in the game against Michigan State. During the summer, Fisher fractured his left leg during practice and only recently has he started practicing with the team. He was out for roughly eight weeks and this fracture was the second within a matter of roughly nine months.
Originally posted by Central Michigan HC Andrew Chambers

Last year, Fisher accounted for 103 tackles for the Chippewas in his sophomore year, before he went down with a similar injury last year in a game against Ball State. Fisher is eager to come back to Central Michigan.

I'm not gonna take this year for granted and I'm gonna work harder than I have before.
We'll have to see whether Coach Chambers gives Justin Crum or Ingraham the position on the right-hand side. Even though Ingraham played well, Crum shined in the first two games, with 10 total tackles and 3 sacks. However, Ingraham accounted for 2 tackles in the first game and he didn't show on the box score in the second game. As of now, Crum is the best player of the two and, even though Chambers said Ingraham will get playing time, I'm finding that hard to believe with how well Crum is playing.

Mann out for game against Michigan State

            Adam Rittenberg, ESPN Senior Writer
            September 12, 2013
            -------------------------------------------
Mount Pleasant, MI - Earlier in the morning, it was announced that Alex Fisher would be able to play against Michigan State. However, it has been reported that defensive tackle, Cedric Mann, will be sitting out against the Spartans.

Mann went down on the practice field holding his right ankle. After a couple moments on the ground with the training staff, Mann was able to hobble off the field under his own power, for the most part.
Originally posted by Central Michigan HC Andrew Chambers

After he got off the field, he spent some more time with the training staff. They have reported that the injury is a right ankle sprain, which will take roughly a week, possibly two, to heal to completion. This will mean that Mann, who has accounted for four tackles and a sack, will be out, most definitely, against Michigan State, and possibly out against Northern Illinois.

If Mann does not play against Northern Illinois, he will have to wait two weeks, after the game against NIU, to play Ball State on October 5th. Mann is the third player on the Chippewa defense to come down with an injury, and the fifth to have to miss at least one game.

Butler out for 6 weeks with elbow fracture

              Adam Rittenberg, ESPN Senior Writer
              September 13, 2013
              -------------------------------------------
Mount Pleasant, MI - The injuries for the Chippewa defense keep on coming. This time, cornerback Antonio Butler came down with an injury this morning after he went for a tackle on wide receiver Garrett Ward. He landed on his elbow awkwardly, quickly got up, grabbed his left elbow, and ran towards the sideline for the trainers.
Originally posted by Central Michigan HC Andrew Chambers

According to the medical staff, Butler will have to miss 6 weeks. This means that he will not be able to play against Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Ball State, Georgia State, Miami University and Kentucky. This is the fourth injury on the defensive side on the ball and the second in two days after Cedric Mann went down with a sprained ankle. You have to wonder when the seemingly injury-prone defense will be up to full health, if at all, this season.

With a 3-28 loss against Kentucky, and a 41-17 win against Western Michigan, the Spartans are 1-1. Against Kentucky, they did not look good and they didn't look like a team that would be difficult. However, as the score indicates, the Spartans found their rhythm and blew the Broncos out.

On the flip side, Central Michigan has looked good, especially in the first year of Coach Chambers' head coaching career. They defeated Northern Iowa, in a somewhat tough game, 38-19. Then, the next week, Chambers and crew defeated rival Eastern Michigan, by a resounding score of 45-7. However, even with Junior Linebacker, Alex Fisher, back, the Chippewas lost Cedric Mann and Antonio Butler to a sprained ankle and a fractured elbow, respectively. In addition, sophomores, Matt Lane and Brandon Cox, will be out for the entire regular season, after they were caught drinking under-age and driving under the influence on the way home to Saginaw. Furthermore, Landon Phillips is out for the rest of the season, after suffering a torn ACL.

                Projected Score
                Michigan State, 38-7

Even with Central Michigan defeating the first two teams on their schedule, the Spartans will be no match for the Chips. Michigan State is just the better team, shown by their spot in Tier 1.

Rittenberg Roundup: Chippewas come close, but close don't cut it

                  Adam Rittenberg, ESPN Senior Writer
                  September 14, 2013
                  -------------------------------------------
East Lansing, MI - In a tough environment in East Lansing, the Chippewas were thrown to the wolves, or, in the case, the Spartans. The Chippewas came close to leading numerous times and the one time they did take the lead, they let it slip away just 16 seconds later. They lost for the first time in the Chambers Era, 30-37.

In the first quarter, the Chips got the ball first and went straight to giving the ball to James Mitchell. However, after two plays, he gained a grand total of 1 yard. They decided to give the passing game a shot and it looked hopeful when Marcus Jackson to a wide open Julius Peterson, but Peterson got stopped for a measly three yard gain. For the first time in the first three games, Roderick Williams, the punter for Central Michigan, came out on the field and booted a 43-yard punt.

The Spartans went straight to work, as Javon Gandy pounded it on the ground for the Spartans' first touchdown of the game. He broke it for a 58-yard run. When the Chips got the ball back, they drove it down the field and capitalized with a field goal, making the game 7-3, in favor of the Spartans, heading into the second quarter.

The two teams went at it in the second quarter, as each team scored at least two touchdowns. Aaron Sharpe broke an NCAA record for longest interception returned for a touchdown, running for 97 yards after Brandon Ward threw a pick. After they scored their first touchdown of the game, the Chippewas went for two, to make the score closer, but failed to convert and opened the game up to a five-point game. At the half, the Spartans led, 24-16.

The only scoring in the third was when Roland Jones booted his second of three field goals through the uprights. The fourth quarter made the game a crazy game as, after the Chippewas scored a touchdown to make the score within four, the defense stopped the Spartan offense to force a field goal, making the game within reach with a tying touchdown. Justin Crum, freshman linebacker, who is filling in for Landon Phillips, accounted for 10 tackles on the day and scrounged up 5 on the drive.

After an amazing drive led by Jackson and Garrett Ward that brought the Chippewas to a tied game, the Chippewa defense, that gave the offense a chance to get back in, gave up a huge play that ended their hopes. Gandy, who went for 240 rushing yards on the day, caught a pass in a position where he could've been tackled for a loss. However, he made a total of five men miss on the play, including freshman phenomena Crum, to take it to the house on a 72-yard passing play. The Michigan State Spartans defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas, 37-30, in an Instant Classic, the first for Andrew Chambers.

Aww man, tough one! Curious to see how Chambers bounces back after this loss! Good game though, didn’t go down without a fight. But a loss is a loss. Better luck next game!

Yeah, we'll have to see how Chambers and crew respond after a tough loss to Michigan State. According to ranking, though, Northern Illinois is a much better team, as you will soon see in the Top 25 rankings. However, Northern Illinois has only played one game in three weeks. We'll have to see. That game most likely won't come out until probably Friday of next week, so, sorry to leave you on a cliffhanger, but... I'll be back soon.

Tough loss to MSU, but somewhat expected. They're a strong team, and CMU will take some time to reach that level.

Yeah, even though they were 1-1, they played a great Kentucky team and lost that game 3-28. Also, they're in tier 1, while we're in tier 8, so not exactly a close matchup, on paper at least. We'll get there eventually. It was more of a "What's our limit?" type of game, rather than a "Let's go out there and beat them by 14." It's a good sign to see that we can hang with a team like that. Just one or two more solid stops on defense and we would've been golden.

                              Update
Alright, so I was thinking about how I can improve the gameplay, because I feel being close to a team like Michigan State is good, but getting to that point 3 games in? That's not really the point of a dynasty, in my opinion. So, to spread it out a little bit, I'm going to start by changing the gameplay sliders.

In the past three games, there have been four penalties for 58 yards. Total. In the game against MSU, there were no penalties, like literally no penalties. So I feel like I need to fix that aspect of the game. Check out my Dynasty House Rules and Setting post for further info, but this is probably going to be my last bit until maybe this weekend, definitely next week.

I hear J-Kits sliders give good penalty results! Not sure how good though. I’m currently messing with sliders. I like the current set I’m using (Community Slider set) but something about it feels really off to me. Test game last night on default heisman besides very small tweaks and fatigue off, the gameplay was pretty good.
