    Update
For those of you who looked at my Goals and Objectives for this dynasty on my Career Tracker post, you would know that I set a goal to be ranked #1... for 100 weeks. I just realized that that's the dumbest thing ever. Alabama has been ranked first in the nation 75 times under Nick Saban in the past 8 years... How can Central Michigan do that? So, I've switched it from 100 to 25 times.

In other news, I switched the "Win the National Championship Playoff" from once to three times, to balance it out. I feel like winning the national championship three times is easier than being ranked first in the nation 100 times. Kind of an odd update, but just wanted to let you guys know.

Yeah, I'm going with J-Kits sliders for penalties and I'll come back to my slider situation most likely later in the season.

Even if you are the best of the worst, you are still better than something. Always better to look at the positives.

Yeah, as long as I get promoted this year, or at least get to play for promotion, I'll be happy. It's looking like that's the case, but you never know. I could go winless for the rest of the season, and Akron can go undefeated the rest of the season. We gotta play one game at a time

James Mitchell looks to continue his already great season with the Chips on the ground against the Cardinals. However, the Cardinals defense is one of the best in the nation against the run, so Mitchell may be in for another tough day.

The offense for Ball State is the best in the nation, averaging 562.5 yards per game and 47 points per game. It may be tough for Chambers and co. with how the Chippewa defense has been playing the past two games. Hopefully, this last week of break for Central Michigan did some wonders for them.

                Projected Score
                Ball State, 24-21

The Cardinals should be able to handle the Chippewas, even if it is a close one. Their pass offense is the best in the nation and they score the most points on average in the nation. The Chippewas could be in for a very long evening.

Rittenberg Roundup: Central Michigan defeats Ball State in four-overtime thriller

                  Adam Rittenberg, ESPN Senior Writer
                  October 5, 2013
                  -------------------------------------------
Mount Pleasant, MI - After a two-game skid, losing to Michigan State on a 70-screen passing play and to Northern Illinois on a fumbled ball in the third instance of overtime, the Chippewas have won once again, boosting their record from 2-2 to 3-2. Central Michigan defeated Ball State in four overtimes, 59-57, after the Ball State quarterback, Seth Cabral, suffered the same fate as Central Michigan halfback, Marquis Harris, did last week against Northern Illinois.

The Chippewas got the ball to start the game off in the first half and, like normal, Central Michigan went straight to the run game, by feeding the ball to James Mitchell. However, after starting off rather conservatively, the Chips were forced to punt when faced with a fourth-down inside their own 30-yard line. Even though they ran the no-huddle offense, Cabral and Fabian Fuller ran the ball perfectly against the Chippewa defense. The Cardinals were able to take the lead over the Chippewas, 7-0.

Realizing the conservative approach would not work, Coach Andrew Chambers and Coach Justin Wade ran a more aggressive gameplan. Just 23 seconds after Ball State scored, Marcus Jackson led the Chippewas into the end zone after just four plays. The Chips brought the score to 7-7, after an extra point by Tim Webb. After another touchdown run by Fuller, however, the Cardinals led, once more, 14-7.

In the second quarter, the Chippewas truly took a huge chunk of the time away before they were stopped on the two-yard line with a decision to make. They could either take the free 3 points, or they could try to have Derek Miller muscle his way in there for a score. Chambers opted to go for it on fourth, but Miller was stuffed at the line, allowing the Cardinals the chance to take a two-score lead. Ball State capitalized on this, scoring a field goal as time expired in the second half. What could have been a tied game at the half, led to a 17-7 lead for the Cardinals.

Blake Powell, for the Cardinals, started off the second half with a wonderful kick return that ended on the Cardinals' 42-yard line. Within two minutes, Ball State scored again, this time with a pass from Cabral to Zach Ray. The score heading into the Chippewas' first drive of the second half was 24-7, in favor of Ball State. Central Michigan quickly drove down the field, ultimately culminating in a 22-yard pass from Jackson to Jermaine Harris for a touchdown score. This ended up being Harris' sole contribution to the game, but it came in a time in need, where another drive without a score could've all but sealed the game.

A gutsy call by Chambers had the field goal unit come out but, instead of kicking a normal extra point, backup quarterback Xavier Deloach threw to third-string tightend Omar Cox for a successful two-point conversion, the first of the year. This play would not be the last on the day. With the two-point conversion, the Chippewas cut the lead down from a would-be ten-point lead to a nine-point lead.

After the Chippewa defense, led by freshman linebacker, Justin Crum, held the Ball State offense to only a field goal. Crum has truly stepped up after upperclassman, Landon Phillips, tore his ACL earlier in the summer. This stop on defense allowed the offense, led by Jackson and his wide receiver corp, to score a touchdown within the next two minutes. Marquis Harris was able to cross the plain on an angle route from the backfield, to take the score to 27-21, still in favor of the Cardinals. Central Michigan decided to go for two once more and were able to convert on a fake extra point pass from Deloach to Cox, once again.

On the ensuing Cardinal drive, the Chippewa defense was able to come up with an interception after a long ball was thrown by Cabral. Central Michigan was able to take the first lead of the game after a touchdown pass to Julius Peterson by Jackson. Once more, Deloach threw to Cox on a two-point conversion attempt, taking the score from 29-27 to 31-27, in favor of the Chips.

The Cardinals, however, came down the field and scored a touchdown, but did not elect to go for the two-point conversion, to force the Chippewas to score a touchdown. With just under four minutes to go, the Chippewas drove the length of the field to get within the five-yard line. With thirty seconds left, and all three timeouts, the Chippewas elected not to stop the clock to try and score a touchdown. Instead, Jackson let the clock run all the way down to two seconds left.

Coach Chambers said this after the game.

With ten more seconds, we may have tried to make a move for a score, but, at the time, I was thinking I'd rather have a fight in overtime than miss this oppurtunity and lose.
Webb came out and kicked a field goal to tie the game at 34 apiece.

The Cardinals lost the toss, and the Chippewas decided to start on defense. They weren't able to stop the Cardinals, as Fuller was able to score for the third time in the evening. However, the Chips came back on offense, guns ablazing, scoring the fifth passing touchdown for Jackson, tying a school record. In the second period of overtime, Jackson scored another passing touchdown, making it six touchdowns through the air, and officially breaking the record. Right off the bat, the defense allowed a 25-yard pass for a touchdown to equal the scoring at 48. In the third period of overtime, both teams scored a field goal. The defense, specifically Crum, came up big to prevent the Cardinals from scoring a touchdown, and forcing a field goal. However, even though Chambers wanted to end the game in the third instance, he settled for a field goal on fourth down, learning from his earlier mistake of going for it on the two-yard line earlier in the second quarter. At 51 apiece, the Chippewas scored a touchdown in the fourth period of overtime, and they were forced to go for two. Earlier in the day, the Chips had scored two-points after a touchdown a total of three times, so it was muscle memory at this point for Central Michigan. They led 59-51, before the Cardinals came back and scored a touchdown. However, when they went for two to tie the game up, Crum came up big (once again) and knocked the ball free from Cabral to seal the game, 59-57.

This win for the Chippewas is the first in three games, after losing to Michigan State and Northern Illinois, and the win makes Central Michigan undefeated at home. In addition, the Chips earn a second point in the Tier 8 standings.

What a great win to break the downward slide. And what an overtime. Good luck against Georgia State. Not good to lose at homecoming, especially for recruiting.

Yeah, would definitely be embarrassing for sure. For example, don't know why, but in 2015, Indiana chose Rutgers for homecoming. Did not end well for the Hoosiers... Needless to say, I chose GSU with this example in mind... gotta win at homecoming, so pick the easiest team! Also, Georgia State is in my tier, so it'd be good to get a boost and knock someone else down, too. We'll see...

As for the Ball State game, my chest was pounding during the entire overtime. I wanted to win this game so bad, and I'm glad I pulled it out in the end!

Good win man! Great way to get things rolling again! That OT was awesome. I bet that was a lot of fun. Keep it up.

Thanks man!! Honestly, when I was trying to play the game, my Xbox kept telling me that my disc for NCAA 14 was unreadable, which is normal at this point, with all the wear-and-tear it's gone through, but a couple times - five at most. But this was a whole nother beast, because, when this happens, it's typically right as the game is loading, but, this time, it kept loading the game, then when I was about to actually play in the dynasty, it would say "This disc is unreadable" or whatever. Not even kidding, it probably took me an hour to actually get into the game and play. I was super nervous because I don't want this to stop, so hopefully, that doesn't happen again lol. I'm gonna try to keep the dynasty rolling, but we'll have to see. I have NCAA 13, so, if all else fails, I might have to start a dynasty on that game if all goes wrong.

What a win! Talk about a momentum booster to break the slide. Really solid performance offensively, and I mean the defense at least made a stop when they needed to, although it wasn't a great performance overall. It looks like Ward is a big threat for you through the air, definitely have to keep getting him touches if he's getting you big chunks like that.

Yeah, when we needed the D to step up, they did, so can't really complain. Ward is a solid receiver, and I think he's our 2nd best receiver, based on overall. He was the recipient of at least two huge throws that got the offense rolling, so he was pretty big for us.

Indianapolis, IN - The rankings switched quite a bit, yet again, and there was some solid upsets, mostly coming for Tiers 1 and 2. At the end of the year, the Goodyear and the Gatorade Championships may be very exciting if the sort of entertainment we're seeing now is what happens then.
