How Do You Defend Shots Close to the Basket?
For all its faults, I'm actually enjoying this game a lot. The one thing that's consistently driving me crazy is a situation that happens far too often...the CPU player ends up with the ball in a standing position or a post up near the hoop, either with a live dribble or not, and is able to get around, go through or score over top of my defender, regardless of the defender's size, positioning or contest. I'm playing on superstar, so I expect a challenge, but this happens CONSTANTLY since the CPU is always trying to force the ball into the paint. Are there any tips and tricks you guys use to force more misses in and around the paint in 1-on-1 situations?End Game Lineup: http://2kmtcentral.com/17/lineups/10...ine-end-lineup

Timing.
It's all about timing.
Cutting them off and impeding their motion with body bumps will help, too, in the post and especially on the perimeter.
It also makes a big difference defending the post with Tyson Chandler versus defending the post with Ersan Ilyasova.
It depends on your timing in relation to the players involved in the sequence. -

The cpu cant compete in a realistic proper way against the user, so when it really needs to it ends up just dribbling into you back and forth attempting to get an angle at the rim when they get close enough, its really repetitive and dumb to play against, you rarely can get a steal without getting called for the foul, yet the cpu dribbles back and forth putting the ball right infront of you, its like they didnt program them to simply know how to back down from medium range, so they just do some corny dribbling back and forth to get closer to the rim.Comment

i dont know what happened, but when i first got the game and prior to the patches when the cpu dribbled back and forth like that to force their way to the paint the game rewarded you by forcing the cpu to pick up its dribble.
it feels like post all these patches they just spam it until they get a sliding animation that forces you out of the way and allows them to put up an "uncontested" shotComment

Re: How Do You Defend Shots Close to the Basket?
Yh for some reason they can make inside close shots whenever they want pretty much. Even if you play good defense, the ball tangebility for the CPU is almost not there. I could play great defense with an elite defender and the CPU will still just bump its way on in until its close and then get this easy animation where the shot always goes in.Comment

Re: How Do You Defend Shots Close to the Basket?
Why does the cpu move us ? Who gave the cpu the right to slide us out of position and magnetically suck us out of bounds so the cpu can make an open layup ..this is the worst aspect of 2k ...or not letting you close out ao they can hit the 3 .
That inside dribbling done by the cpu is unguardable uncontestable and even if your hand is all over the ball for a block or deflection..no ...even your hand/arm is sucked back and sometimes its so blatant the ball goes through your hand .
Lazy programming by 2k..its just cheap and they have too many enginees working on BS instead of issues like these.Comment

Re: How Do You Defend Shots Close to the Basket?
I figured out part of my problem...my interior defenders just weren't very good. Since I've been playing with Marc Gasol at center, I've had some improvement in my interior defense. However, the CPU still scores a maddening amount of points in the paint off of the exact things you've all been describing above. It's definitely frustrating, even though the results of my games are realistic in most facets. I just wish they could improve on this area because it would make a world of difference.End Game Lineup: http://2kmtcentral.com/17/lineups/10...ine-end-lineup
