Re: Legendary - The Career of Porter Davis
Stan Parrish, Porter Davis separated and escorted away from EMU
football practice
Offensive and Defensive coordinators allegedly "near
blows" after "divisive" comments were made.
By Patt Mussman | Nov 25, 2013, 5:15pm EST

In what is still very much a developing story out of Eastern Michigan University it appears that both Offensive Coordinator Stan Parrish and Defensive Coordinator Porter Davis were escorted out of the team's practice and off campus after an incident between the two took place.
EMU is in the midst of a rough season, sitting at 2-9 as they prepare for their season finale against Central Michigan.
"It's been a tough season and those guys have both a number of confrontations throughout the season." An unnamed source told us.
Davis has made some public comments about the offense's poor performances dating all the way back to the first game of the season.
"Coach Davis has made some comments that have been very critical of the team's perfomances on the offensive side of the ball." Parrish explained when we reached out to him for comments on the situation. "We're supposed to work together as a team and he's really thrown our side of the ball under the bus at times. He's a young guy and he maybe hasn't learned the tact side of this job."

EMU's offense has averaged less than 11 points per game this season. In their last two games the defense held Western Michigan to 10 points then a tough Bowling Green team to 14. The offense scored 0 against Western Michigan and 7 against Bowling Green.
Things have been far from great on the defensive side of the ball, they've given up 30+ points in five games so far.
"If we're going to be honest neither side has played very well overall. We feel like these past couple games we've stepped things up on defense and haven't gotten much in the way of help from the offense." Davis explained when we asked for his side of the story. "It's a team game. I know that. Coach Parrish has continually failed to make adjustments to his game plan or personnel and that's been frustrating. Coach Parrish took issue with me trying to coach a few of what he called "his guys" during a break in the action at practice. He initiated that confrontation and was the aggressor. He's like 70 so there was no physical retaliation on my part."
Head coach Ron English merely stated that he and the athletic director were "still researching" the incident and that it would be handled internally.
EMU will face CMU this Friday in Mount Pleasant. Both teams are 2-9.---Comment

Re: Legendary - The Career of Porter Davis
You nailed it. We've all gotten older and moved on to real life things, gotten married, have children, etc. Fitting in game recaps before work at 5:00 in the morning and only being able to play one game a week is a notion we all would have scoffed at back in our late teens and early 20s. But, at the same time, it has been a benefit and I feel as though it has helped keep things fresh and has resulted in these multi-real time year dynasties that has brought way more satisfaction than I can ever recall as a younger adult. Thanks man, I appreciate the sentiment. I'm really hoping to get elbow deep in this one. You and Geezey (and a few others) inspired me to dive back into NCAA14. Seems like some of us have been at this forever.
Things are a lot different in the 'chising world and in life from when a bunch of us got started. I've got a son now and a lot less time to game in general but this is really how I like to spend the gaming time I do have. Hope you'll all enjoy the ride.
Opus? Hadn't heard that word in a while.
Love the team choice. I'm sure our guy Cheese will enjoy seeing what you do with EMU in these early years.
Rough start to the dynasty, though it seems as though the defense has stepped up the past couple of weeks. Damn shame that Coach Porter is trying to fight that old man. Come on coach!

The slow burn really does help with getting more in depth and getting more attached to schools, players and dynasties in general. It's fun kind of thinking about the roster and upcoming opponents and storylines between games. Fun recruiting too when you're waiting a while real time to find out if you land someone. You nailed it. I feel like this is my opus, I want this one to go many years and I hope to get as in depth with things as you have with Coach Geezy.
Picking a team was quite a process actually. I basically started with only teams with 4 or less wins in 2012. Then narrowed it down to teams that gave up the most points per game. Then I cut out big name/big conference schools and that got me down to about a dozen choices. From there I looked at ratings and picked a handful of the worst schools. Then I decided I wanted to be in a cold climate. Then I looked at head coaches and picked one that I could create a realistic connection to. It was a bit of a process and I did think twice about EMU due to Cheese's outstanding work with them. If this was a school dynasty I wouldn't have picked them but since I'm following the coach I figured it would be o.k. to start there.
Porter is fed up with the offenses performance and Parrish's stubbornness. He knows the defense hasn't been good either but they're at least showing some life and have been making adjustments. He was a linebacker so he's got a bit of a temper and mean streak. Parrish seems to think because he's older he's earned the right to belittle Davis. Fortunately Davis was able to control himself.
I'm not a photoshop guy so I had to call in reinforcements for that one!
Thanks for the thoughtful reply, these always add life to a report!
Stay tuned for a big announcement in the next couple days.---Comment

Stan Parrish, Porter Davis not suspended following “incident”
Davis to be on sideline, Parrish in booth for CMU game. Practices to be “segregated”.
By Patt Mussman | Nov 27, 2013, 2:15pm EST

Following an incident at practice earlier this week there was speculation that both Eastern Michigan coordinators could be suspended for the remainder of the season. We learned earlier today that that was not the case when EMU addressed the situation.
“Ultimately we were able to put together a plan that works for both of those guys and the team as well.” EMU Head Coach Ron English explained.
Offensive Coordinator Stan Parrish will perform his duties from the booth on Friday at Central Michigan while Porter Davis will be in his usual spot on the sideline. English also stated that they will keep the two separated during what he called “segregated” practices.
“We wanted to disrupt things as little as possible.” English elaborated. “With one game left to make a significant shake up didn't make sense. Had this been earlier in the season things may have been different.”
Speculation around Ypsilanti is that Parrish, Davis and English could all be shown the door, these events, along with the team's poor performance, could certainly steer officials at EMU in that direction.
“I'm just focused on this week and doing my job putting the players in the best position to try to win this game.” Davis said when asked about the situation and his future at EMU. “Can't look beyond that right now.”
EMU and CMU are both 2-9 on the season and despite the poor records this is a big game for both schools. A win could cool either coaching staff's seats.
We will have full coverage of the game and any further developments here.---Comment

Coach Davis' Take

Wow! Just... wow! Sucks to be on that end of a tense game like that but what can I say. Both sides of the ball showed up for both teams and it came down to one play and they made it and we didn't. I'm forever grateful for this opportunity to get into coaching and no matter what happens going forward I'll always remember this season. Amazing ride.

Re: Legendary - The Career of Porter Davis
Yup. That was a tough one. We gave up a couple long passes on CMUs last drive in regulation when they tied it up.
Then a somewhat long pass on their first play of overtime. They scored a couple plays later. Didn't expect the offense to score at all and was getting ready for OT2 when they did. Tool me a minute to realize what happened when the game was over.
Thanks for following and posting. Lots to cover coming up.---Comment
