I guess I'll jump in since wodi seems to be on an island here trying to get people to talk about the classes...
I started a Giants franchise earlier in the year and got through the first offseason. I lost interest, though, since I won the Super Bowl in the first year (I started 2-5 and then just went on a ridiculous run the second half of the season, as it was happening I honestly wanted it to stop). I finally decided to start a new one a few weeks ago where I forced the same 5-11 record as the actual 2018 season, then started from DC2. Unfortunately, I was rushing through and didn't take the time to really sink into the class like I had the first time around, but I still got a pretty good class:
Spoiler
Dallas Stewart fell to me with the sixth pick. I had a feeling something was up since he fell that far, but there was only one team above me who wasn't completely set at QB, so I decided to take him anyway. It wasn't a terrible pick, but you're obviously hoping for more out of a top 10 QB. I redeemed myself in the second round by taking Joshua Smallwood. I already have him up to 91 OVR by the 2019 preseason, and he's formed a great guard duo with Will Hernandez. The only other pick of note was a late-round flyer on FS Kashawn Darville, who at 74 - Normal started every game at free safety for me. He performed admirably and received a bump to Quick dev in the offseason. A year later I traded for Kyrell Aceto and moved him to FB. I 'm excited to see how he plays for me.
The 2018 season started off hot, but we cooled down at the end. I gave Eli his final season as a starter, but an injury (I know!) early on and a benching late in the season gave Dallas Stewart six starts, in which he played very well and actually was on a better pace statistically than Baker Mayfield was in real life this year. He got a nice bump up to Star development, so I'm ready to commit to him full time as my franchise QB. All four NFC East teams were tied 7-7 with two weeks left, which led to an epic Week 16 showdown between us and the Eagles. Stewart and Wentz combined for over 80% completed passes, 700 yards and 10 TDs with no picks. The Eagles kicked a long game-winning field goal as time expired (where have I heard that before?).
We missed out on the playoffs, which led me to the 2019 draft. This one I really dove into, and obviously had to take the opportunity to watch the Senior Bowl. I came away from that game obsessed with MLB Justin Norwood, who would have solidified a huge hole on my team for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, he didn't last until my 14th pick. I ended up grabbing FS Zy Vergil and CB Austin Caruso with my first two picks, two solid additions to my young defensive secondary. MLB Travis Bladek was a mediocre consolation prize after missing out on both Norwood and Toronto Smith, but it's certainly disappointing to walk away from this class without a cornerstone MLB.
I think I did something wrong with this class - I downloaded the *NORMAL* AFDC3 from Sapp, not Raiders, and there were almost no players with Star or Superstar development (I only noticed one of each). Instead, there were a ton of players with Quick development. I wonder if this was a work-in-progress class that I wasn't supposed to download. Regardless, a lot of teams got decent pieces and it didn't really screw much up, it just would have been nice to see a bit more star power out of the top of a class that was hailed as star-studded. The one Superstar was QB Austin Stewart who was conveniently drafted by the Saints just as Drew Brees had retired.
A few other QB fun facts: Carson Wentz left the Eagles in free agency and signed with none other than the Dallas Cowboys. So the Eagles lost their franchise QB to a hated division rival. Dak is now an 85 OVR backup, and the Eagles drafted Leo Whitehead late in the first to now be a rookie starter for them. Philip Rivers sat in FA until preseason, when he signed with the Redskins. Quite a bit of QB turnover in the NFC East.
In all, despite what I believe was a self-inflicted downloading error, I've been thrilled with the classes so far. EA's nerfing of the AI draft bust logic is very frustrating - watching the crazy amount of busts in DC1 way back in September was a wild experience and encouraged me to keep trading back before finally making a pick - but it cannot be understated how much of an impact reading about all of these players and developing stories for them has on the life of the franchise. I've managed to avoid any massive missteps for my Giants and I'm slowly working toward building a championship team.
