    Polling OS Golf Faithful

As a passionate golfer, and a gamer I have continuously felt unsatisfied by the options we have to play the game of golf on PS4 and Xbox. It has been nearly 5 years since EA disbanded their golf franchise, and although The Golf Club is a welcome addition to the market, it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of accessibility and pick up and play fun. In fact, it even struggles with key sim elements that make the game a frustrating play more often than not.

Then there is Everybody's Golf, which has it's strengths but lacks the immersion that some of us look for in video games. Especially ones centered around our favorite sport.

In the past, I have read a lot on this very board, comments with similar frustrations with hopes that the Tiger Woods franchise would make a return to your favorite gaming platform. I mean I think we can all relate to being in the house on a rainy weekend and teeing up TW05 with a couple of buddies lol And even today, on days I can't golf there isn't an option out there that feels good just to pick up and play for a quick 9.

So with that being said, I ask you, if a new game hit the market with the accessibility of the Tiger Woods franchise, but possessed some of the sim elements of The Golf Club would you buy? Would you support the development of such a game? What elements would you want to see incorporated? Looking forward to see the feedback here.

Absolutely!! I would contribute to the development as well!

Yes, but I would wait to see gameplay before I supported it.

Maybe, but I would have to try it out first before buying.

No, The Golf Club is sufficient for me.

The love child between TGC3 and Rory golf would be the most ideal. Licensed golfers/courses/equipment with Rory's graphics, TGC3's mechanics. A little deeper season mode. The deeper they could get, the better.

I wish EA would try again.

It’s going to be hard for anyone to visually compete with what EA is able to do and license, etc

The only thing I hated with Rory was most golfers had the same build and swing type, every other aspect was fine for me. Seems like EA pulls the pin on something once they get behind in the race, or like Madden, buy the exclusive rights to a sport.

You would be surprised, especially with the accessibility of game engines these days. I think the one of the bigger challenges is course design, but there are ways around that.

Is there anything in particular that EA did that would interest if another game attempted it?

So a little more detail surrounding player animation to differentiate players is something that is important to you?

What about from a presentation perspective? Is that something that that holds a lot of weight to you as well?

Is there anything about the TGC3's mechanics that you would change or improve? Are there mechanics that existed in the EA series that you wish would come back?

I was happy with presentation in TW14, I still play it now and have no issues. TGC wins for presentation now but overall it's the gameplay that keeps me coming back to the Tiger series. I think too many games today focus on presentation too much. I'm might be the minority but I'm still gaming in 1080p and the visual upgrades now are not what we got for example from PS2 to PS3.

Me too actually. Despite having 4k hardware and a screen, I prefer to play my golf game of choice (PG) in 1080p on my big tv.

Honestly there's a subtle softness that's added that for whatever reason can make things look easier on the eyes and the performance is rock solid and - I don't know -- 4k can be great for some applications for sure, but in the golf genre I'm pretty happy at 1080p at the moment.

Even I fire up TW14 from time to time - just did so this last weekend.

I'm really hoping it'll get supported enough in the PS3 or XB360 emulators at some point and a touch of upscaling could get applied (it was 720p native and you can tell).

I love the gameplay depth in TW14. All the little variables are awesome.

The one thing I'd change about Tiger and Rory series was the aiming arrow thing.

I don't believe that should ever impact actual shot distance like it does. I want that done solely with club selection and actual shot execution. No "pre selecting distance" with an aiming arrow.

I actually am so against it that I play without moving it back/forth when I play TW14 - perhaps to my own scoring detriment, but I just believe it's wrong to have something like that in a golf simulation.

Update: I'm playing TW14 again right now and messing with the aiming arrow and mulligans on.

I honestly can't really tell what the aiming arrow does in terms of shot power (or not).
                  Does anyone know?

I believe the arrow was to determine what 100% is no?

Either way, would you want the ability to hit clubs at a variable distance depending on how you set up the shot? For instance, in TGC right now, there is no way to get a club longer than what the standard yardage is. Do you feel that is a valuable gameplay mechanic?

Yeh I do agree you should not be able to choose the distance spot on with that Aimee but pretty sure it was only added in TW14. I don't recall 12 or 13 having that and the early games definitely did not.

I can't figure out what the arrow is really doing or not honestly - lol
I even went through the digital "manual" and they really never explain it in much detail unfortunately.

Like - is it "a normal 100% power swing will go to where the arrow is"? or is it just an aiming point and all distance control is with the swing power? It feels like the former not the latter and perhaps it's some blend between them. I think it should be the latter mostly in a golf game honestly and the aiming point should be used for scouting and "aiming" where you want to go and to help you think about how much to take off your swing during execution of it.

Yes, overswing and partial power and all the fun ways to make the game not just a dial in perfect 100% all the time are really key I think.

It's a real shame TGC has no overswing and caps out at 100%.

The overswing and added risk/reward stuff is really great to add variety and challenge.
