Re: Shipping Up To Boston - MLB 19 The Show Boston Red Sox Franchise

Red Sox Reset - All-Star Edition: Martinez belts out 28 home runs to win derby

J.D. Martinez put on a show Monday night at Progressive Field in Cleveland, hitting 28 total home runs over three rounds to win the derby, his first career appearance in the contest.

Martinez was given the number one overall seed and drew Jose Ramirez in the first round, taking down his seven home runs relatively easily. Up next was Nolan Arenado who put a solid 11 on the board. Martinez actually trailed 11-10 with less than 30 seconds remaining but hit two consecutive moon shots to advance.

In the finals, the fans didn't quite get what they wanted - a Martinez-Trout matchup. Instead it was Justin Upton, who took down Trout in the second round by blasting 15 home runs. Unfortunately, it appeared Upton used up all of his long balls, as he only put up a score of seven which Martinez took down no problem.

In the All-Star Game on Tuesday, the American League jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back, hammering the National League by a score of 13-0. Martinez was joined by fellow Red Sox players Mookie Betts, Matt Barnes, and Chris Sale.

Betts picked up three hits in the win, driving in two and scoring twice himself, while Martinez went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as well. Barnes pitched a scoreless eighth inning striking out a better, while Chris Sale didn't make an appearance in the game - likely because Alex Cora was looking to give him as much rest as possible before the regular season starts back up again.
