Screen Love
For the love of the game. I surely hope they fix the screen game. The addition of RPOs and trick plays is a nice welcome but I'm looking to get my screen game back for those blitz happy defenses. Plus unlike to see the buffet boys out there laying the smack-ith down on sum LBs and DBs.

Re: Screen Love
The weird acceleration you'd get on some WR screens remained. The OL in every facet was better at picking up blocks from pitches, to pulling plays, to going to the 2nd level, and including on screen plays.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Screen Love
Yeah, idk. I don’t want to insult anyone who can’t work screens, properly, but rb screens have been ok since M16. They’re not perfect nor have ever been perfect, and I have issues from time to time. But, I really learned the timing of these in M16. U really want to watch your rb while allowing the video game to control your qb backpeddling. This is actually the biggest key to them working, imo. And, this is the area that can be most frustrating. Sometimes, madden will backpeddle your qb appropriately and if u time your throw appropriately, and u get the proper throw animation, u can be successful. U actually want the back foot falling away animation, imo. The problem can be that the game chooses a stop and throw animation and u get sacked or something.
But, again, if u time everything properly and throw the ball when your rb starts running out of the backfield and is not being impeded by anyone. All of these things are important. U need to see that your rb is not being rubbed or something. And, again, u want to throw him open in the flat. U absolutely don’t want to throw this ball super late. U want to lead him to the flat. Press and hold RAC catch, for sure. And, as the qb, I mostly throw touch passes for screens. I really think u get the best animations out of that. And, screens normally are touch passes, irl.
When u catch it, u absolutely cannot press turbo unless there are no D players in front of u. U should run towards your Olinemen and hopefully set up 1 or 2 blocks and then bounce outside and hit the turbo downfield. What can be difficult here is that the Olinemen never go wide enough. They instantly turn up field right when u catch up, and can leave u vulnerable at the start. U have some control over this, however. As I say, run towards your lineman and force them to block for u, lol. No matter what the situation looks like, run towards them, first. Make them block somebody, then take off.
Again, to be clear, screens are not perfect in madden, and the Olinemen sometimes screw it up, lol. But, they’re not impossible, and I’ve had plenty of 80 yard screen tds in my time with the game. So, it might be something u need to practice with a bit more.
WR screens are another matter, entirely. I actually recall throwing a lot of these in M16 back in the day with varied success. But, I haven’t been able to get these working in a long time and threw them out of my repertoire a long time ago.
I did throw a few wr screens out of RPO plays in M20 beta that were successful, though. And, I believe I threw some rb screens that were successful. So, hopefully it’ll be better in 20, overall. I think the qb animations, overall, are better in 20, and this will make a big difference in getting screens out properly.
Just curious to those that can’t make rb screens work, what do u think the biggest problem is?
1. Qb getting sacked while trying to throw due to poor animation?
2. Poor Olinemen blocking?
3. Poor route running from rb?
4. Poor downfield blocking?
5. Poor catch animation from rb?
6. Other?

Re: Screen Love
Yeah, see, again, idk. I guess everyone’s going to see this differently. For awhile in M19, screens were actually an integral part of my offense. Specifically, I really liked running a rb screen out of the weak I formation. Something about that screen on 1st or 2nd down every once in awhile would change up the flow of my offense, and it would work beautifully for 5-10 yards. Now, again, I did take BS sacks from time to time due to a poor qb animation or something, but I was mostly successful on these with devonta freeman, primarily. But, I’ve also run them well with Coleman and some stud drafted RBs through my franchise.
Recently, I was taking a few more sacks from that specific weak I screen, so it’s been used less, and I have some different weapons on offense, so my gameplan has sort of evolved over time.
Overall, I prefer shotgun screens for the simple fact that u can normally get rid of the ball without being sacked, and I still use these 2-5 times per game normally picking up 5+ yards with the occasional good D stuffing it right away. And, specifically, on these, if the D is blitzing, I wait for the blitzed closest to my rb to get himself way out of position, then throw a touch pass RAC catch, and I can house it.
So, idk, I guess, for me, it’s one thing to say that screens are ‘tough’ in madden, or some of the animations can lead to a breakdown or something. But, to say they are ‘broken’ isn’t quite right.
The reason I posted what I did asking questions was simply because I used to think they were broken, too. Lol. But, then, in M16, I just really tried a lot of different tactics on screens to see what worked, and one of the things that made a huge difference for me was using the touch pass. This seems to float the ball in there, nicely, and gives your rb more space at the onset of the screen. Now, admittedly, the Olinemen almost always short their assignments. Lol. Maybe, this is ‘broken.’ However, Olinemen in that kind of space (even good, agile linemen) are always going to be a little ‘off,’ so as the rb, as ive said, I force them to block by basically running at the Olinemen so that the defender has to go through them, and then normally bouncing outside.
So, I guess, just overall, I don’t see them as ‘broken.’ They just take a little extra effort to get working right. Could also be an Olinemen thing. I’ve actually been drafting quality Olinemen in M19 and have tried, specifically, to get agile linemen as that’s a scheme for for my O. As much as people want to say blocking is bad or whatnot, or not realistic, I have to say, it really can depend on the quality of your linemen. I think lineplay is more realistic than people want to give credit.

The Nectar gameplay mod more or less fixed screens. Madden PC is nice like that.Originally posted by Therebelyell626I am going to create a team called "the happy town fundament rapscallions" and hurt your already diminishing image
