Re: Gameplay videos?
I think EA quit using that years ago because they realized not everything in a real football game works well when it's in a video game. And rightfully so in many cases. Not speaking to this one, just in general.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Gameplay videos?
This is one of many reason why I have gone back to PS2 Madden games. The older games are way more authentic and EA should be ashamed for going backwards.MegatronComment

Re: Gameplay videos?
As we get closer and closer to real broadcast quality graphics, I mean some games can be mistaken for the real thing in a certain light these days, more and more of what is NOT there is becoming apparent.
I think the idea of going back to older gaming systems and games is a part of this thought line.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Gameplay videos?
I read an article once by Trip Hawkins about how, as we get better technology, people will see more and more the flaws in gaming. The reason was in the Playstation and Nintendo days of old we all had to use a certain amount of imagination to game. Obviously because the games were just not real looking and was missing so much.

Re: Gameplay videos?
Sounds like a very poor excuse to me, because I never had to use my imagination while playing PS2 Madden games. But in Madden 19 I had to use my imagination that refs were on the field. With better tech we should see less flaws and MORE of what we see on Sunday’s if anything. Talk about backward thinking. Smh
The focus back then was more on the game and enjoying it and less on realism.
Now, with powerful machines we have incredible realism but yes you do notice things like refs not being on the field because the game actually looks very realistic and it stands out.
This will be the case going forward, people will not focus on how amazing things look (well they may initially) but rather the things that are not amazing and/or missing.
This is what Trip's article spoke about and I agree with him, there's a certain amount of truth in that respect.
Gamers do not appreciate having 90% realism, which is about 80% more than we used to have. They focus on the missing 10%.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Gameplay videos?
I don't think you're getting the point. When we had cartoons there was very little realism so no one noticed if something minor wasn't there. Hell, many major things weren't there. I recall playing 4 on 4 football on my Atari for example. I wasn't thinking about refs, we didn't even have all the players on the team.

And how come developers like Codemasters F1 series are able to continue to make their game more authentic with each console release but EA continue to make excuses for going backwards!?MegatronComment

Re: Gameplay videos?
You're a sim/feature oriented gamer and I get it. But the point is with increasing realism means increasing ultra-scrutiny for absolutely everything to be there. And even the smallest thing not being there is noticed really immediately because of just how realistic the game is.
That same type of scrutiny is not applied to old games. If it was a million things could be found that is wrong.
Again, complain about missing refs in Madden 20 but look at an old Maddens, they used passing windows at one time for goodness sake and you only had 3 potential receivers.
Try running the spread passing attack with that, LOL.
Say what you will about games of old, they were fun, but the truth is if you broke down those games and compared to today's games across the board it wouldn't even be close as to what is actually more realistic in both look, feel, rules and ultimately the way that the sport is played.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
