This is a roster made of very arguably the best single season teams in the Super Bowl era(mostly). I used a combination of Pro Football References SRS rating, the ELO rating and my own personal preference choosing the teams. The 91 Lions team for instance was mainly a personal preference as I wanted Barry Sanders, there were other Lions teams that were better.
Ratings are mostly determined like this: if the player made the Pro Bowl that season they would be rated from 87 and up depending on what they had done in prior years and in the future. Most non Pro Bowl starters are in the area of a 77-83 rating, those that had been to the Pro Bowl before or in the future could be as high as 86 or so. Future Hall of Famers are rated higher than the average Joe but it also depends on the year they had and at what stage of their career they were at that year. Team stats also were taken into consideration. I also tried using the real 40 time for speed conversion but of course not all can be found, especially from the older players so it's just a guess for those. I spent waay too much time trying to find that data, heh. The ratings were based on the differential between how the players did compared to others their particular year. For example Stabler completed 66.7% of his passes in 1976 where the average was 52.2, so his SAC/MAC/DAC ratings are high. Update: For Madden 20 the average ratings will be higher than normal since they reduced the average ratings and I haven't felt up to going back and reducing the ratings for the non stars. If someone wants to do that feel free.
I took heavy inspiration from capa and playmakers rosters as I'm a big fan. In fact when I first started up I used the ratings they used for the same teams they had done before, but after I got the hang of things I started to do my own thing and changed much of it for better or worse. I also grabbed the ratings from maddenratings.weebly.com for some of the more recent teams but I also edited them to some extent.
I have made many uniform edits to match what they were wearing that year from pictures I've found on the net. Some teams may be more accurate than others.
I originally intended this to be played with Madden 19(works fine for 20), using the Exhibition Mode but CFM should also work. Also the ratings that are shown for the teams when choosing them are incorrect. I did take the time to try to manually enter that info, although not sure I was doing it right, but I've changed some things since and didn't feel up to recalculating it all again. I wish the Amp editor had a auto function for that...
I've watched quite a few games with this roster now using tommycoa's sliders as it seems to play well for cpu vs cpu play that I tend to do, and while it's never going to be a perfect simulation of these what if scenarios it's not terrible.
7/9/19 Big update posted, lots of fixes and rating tweaks. I went over the entire roster to fix many uniform # errors that slipped by. Some equipment fixes as well. Same file name as before Bob2.
7/12/19 New update posted with some more rating tweaks. I will be tweaking until I feel satisfied with how things are playing or until I just get sick of it.
7/16/19 Next update just posted with many more tweaks to the teams, and a couple player name audio fixes. New file name is Bob3 which now has the 95 Cowboys(not best team but really wanted Deion Sanders on the roster) and the 75 Steelers(originally was 78 team, but wanted Andy Russell on the D).
7/23/19 Very minor updates and this may be the final one. It can still use some tweaking, probably could tweak it forever and never be satisfied but I think I'm going to move on now. However knowing me I can't say I wont ever do any more edits. If something really bugs me or I find an error while playing I'll definitely fix it. Hope you enjoy playing with this roster! It's been something I've wanted to do for a long time and I'm happy I was able to finally get it done.
8/26/19 Fixed all the XP ratings, now the players that should have XFactor do. Seems to only work in CFM tho.
11/20/19 Roster is still among the top downloaded on Madden Share for the PC which I'm very happy about. Please let me know of any issues that you may find with the roster and I'll try fixing them.
12/03/19 With Sabo's help I found out setting the trait for Force Pass to Balanced causes QB's to throw down field more so I set the QB's with good YPA for their season to that and the rest to Ideal. I noticed Conservative setting resulted in lots of check downs for minimal or negative gain. I also raised K's AWR to 75 and KP to min of 96 to help with the FG logic.
12/05/19 Some how I missed adding Junior Seau to the 2007 Patriots so fixed that and re-uploaded. Also some minor rating tweaks.
