I realize every version needs some slider adjustment, but I mean the best defense without excessive slider changes. Defense on 2014 seems broken to me, I am hoping there is a better version. This is for the PS3/360 era consoles, although I would be happy to hear thoughts on PS2 versions too.

Which NCAA version had the best defense? PS3/360
What are the community’s thoughts on which version played the best defense, and WHY?

Sure. I am not asking that. I am asking what game plays the best defense of the games released during the PS3/360 era. Basically, after the PS2 versions.Comment

It's why I went back to '12 from '14. '12 is probably my GOAT. I love the defense on '12 that most others seem to hate.Comment

I always thought 12 was way too NFL like.

Re: Which NCAA version had the best defense? PS3/360
Maybe I'm just used to so much NFL talent in the SEC
The NFL Development League
In all seriousness, I do find it really hard to replicate the D that I see on Saturdays on '14. '14 is like BIG 12 style for every conference, out of the box. Shootout city. You can kind of tweak sliders to get that middle range, but it was hard to find really good D, even with fatigue off. That's what made me go to default, which really made the D show up once they were about a 95 or higher.
But when I discovered I could get even better results on '12 with fatigue on - it was pretty much over for me and '14. I would have to imagine it would be easier to tweak '12 and open up the offense than it is to try and create D on '14.Comment

Re: Which NCAA version had the best defense? PS3/360
Probably '14 for me just because I've spent the most time on it. Never did create defensive playbooks from scratch and allow 12 total points in a dynasty mode season in any other version LOL. Can't remember if you could even create books in '12.⎛⎝DAWGS⎠⎞Comment

Re: Which NCAA version had the best defense? PS3/360
How did you do that?
I feel like defense is hopeless on 14. The D line doesn't seem to do anything, they don't get off blocks no matter their ratings. At times the CPU scores at will, pancaking whole sides of the field no matter the ratings. Ball carriers cut on a dime with no regard to physics, like Barry Sanders on steroids. Defenders either don't go to their zone, or just don't defend what happens on their zone. Basically, humans and CPU scores on way too many drives. There is little to no punting, it's just a shootout.
14 just seems geared to offense to me. What do you do to get good defense on 14?Comment

nerf/make the offensive sliders weaker than the defensive sliders. lower offensive sliders, raise defensive sliders. How did you do that?

Re: Which NCAA version had the best defense? PS3/360
From what I remember defense on 12 was amazing. I actually was going to switch and I even went out to buy it. But the recruiting just takes too much effort. I got way too used to the ncaa 14 recruiting the last 6 yearsComment

Re: Which NCAA version had the best defense? PS3/360
Recruiting on '12 does take a lot more work, but I remember a lot of people not liking the basic points system of '14 and wanting the more detailed style back. I honestly wish there was a middle ground between the two. I guess I would say I prefer '14's recruiting as well, but not enough to put up with the rest of it lol. Just picking guys I'd want on my team and letting the CPU go after them is enough for me on '12. I actually really enjoy not checking it at all after I set up my board and allowing myself to be surprised by the weekly signings. I turn off my assistants "add or remove" option, of course, and turn the others on.Last edited by Tuscaloosa; 08-07-2019, 06:34 PM.Comment

Yeah, that is a great idea. I never thought about doing that. The surprise element might be a refreshing way to do it. You could call it the Steve Spurrier method, where you go play golf while your assistants go sign kids.Recruiting on '12 does take a lot more work, but I remember a lot of people not liking the basic points system of '14 and wanting the more detailed style back.
