Why can’t Madden make a game like NBA 2k

I enjoyed Madden 19, but looking at what other sports games offer every year it’s impossible not to be underwhelmed. Not only does this company improve the gameplay in their basketball title every edition they also add content to the offline modes that is almost unparalleled. NBA 2k also has many modes that can be played online if offline gaming isn’t your thing.

I’m just tired of the excuses why this can’t be added or we had to remove this feature to make this work. I’m fed up. Football is my favorite sport and in 2020 we are JUST getting semi realistic contracts while 2k has had front/back loaded deals, no trade clauses, bird rights and real salary rules for years. Just looking at what will be in 2k20 next year has me p*ssed off on how really far behind Madden is. I know I will probably get some backlash for this post, but I think it’s important that we stop giving excuses to EA on why little things that we have been asking for for years are not in the game.

Completely agree 100% but like you said, get ready for the backlash & for this thread to get closed lol. You can attribute a lot of Madden's complacency to the people that constantly defend any EA does & talk down on you for expecting more from a company that's been making football games over 30 years...But I digress...

2k has a focus on offline gameplay and franchise type modes and the Madden team doesn’t. They could, if they wanted to, but it isn’t the direction they’ve chosen for the game. For a lot of people that’s fine, for a lot (like us) it isn’t, but there being no other real options besides text based Draft Day (which had plenty of its own problems but at least tried to fill the niche) we don’t have much choice.

Doesn't NBA2k have a similar feature where they rake in money. I don't play so don't know.

I somewhat agree. NBA 2k has mycareer/myteam proam and a whole living park/neighborhood. They have modes that are completely designed to buy virtual currency, but they STILL add tremendous content for their offline modes.

In Madden we can’t even get all the way done career stats. In 2k this year you’ll be able to not only view league history for 80 YEARS!! but you can pull up a virtual player model when viewing a team history page. Are you kidding me??

Would be nice for Madden to start with adding a commissioner mode and make it easier to control all the teams instead of creating a different owner/coach every time. NBA 2k lets us change the rules season by season every offseason. We’re nowhere close to this level of content in Madden and it is very depressing. Just give us HALF of what 2k has and I bet the majority will be happy.

I truly feel 2k is a game where the developers have endless creative freedom gameplay wise, but EA has stricter limitations when it comes to what they can and cant do. With EA its always we tried, or we wanted to, or we just couldn't get too this or that this year maybe next year. Terms like this show us the developers really aren't the ones in control more so the higher ups. But who knows EA has a bundle of sports games they make every year and 2k only has NBA maybe that also has something to do with it.

Economically speaking it really doesn't make much sense. NHL continues to improve and it is the sole hockey game on the market. FIFA dominates the soccer world even with PES. NBA Live tries and does some things well, but really they're no competition to 2K... And that leaves Madden; a game that has never really had an overhaul and has zero competition on the market.

What it all boils down to is the laziness of the development team. They hide behind the Shield and claim the NFL won't allow this and that, but does anyone believe the NFL is putting their foot down on Career Stats in Franchise with team names for each year, realistic contract negotiations, Franchise history, and having a coaching carousal with generic, editable coaches? Coaching hires and fires are a huge part of the NFL, yet get no representation. EA has the infrastructure, EA has done it before in the past, it's an easy addition.

NCAA Football 14 to this day has more features than Madden NFL 20 despite being 6 years later. Granted NCAA has always been the better of the two, one would hope EA would then be able to pool the resources of the NCAA development team onto Madden and make Madden a juggernaut, but instead they release the game with better lighting, reintegrate features they've taken away, and add a new facemask. People complained Madden didn't have a new scoreboard for 3 years, that's just plain laziness.

All Madden has to do for me is copy things from MyLeague and that would be great. Let me edit everything. Let me customize the whole thing. Also, hopefully one these years we will get historic stats. Franchise mode is still very lonely, for lack of a better word. At least with MyLeague it feels somewhat alive.

Each game/company has different priorities. It is as simple as that. Madden could have a franchise mode as deep and detailed as 2k's if they were give the greenlight to do so by the higher ups. Unfortunately that is not what happens, obviously.

2k simply puts the offline modes higher up on their priority list. It has nothing to do with talent, laziness, etc. One company puts the resources into franchise-like modes, the other does not put near as many.

I tend to believe this is a management issue at EA. I just cannot understand how unwavering they are whilst 2K outsells them. An NFL game should outsell a NBA game, and I think that says a lot about their strategy.

Some of this could be the fact that 2K has Live (for now), but EA Tiburon does less with more. Even EA Canada at least seems to make more of an effort to cater to all modes with presumably a much lower budget.

Comparing Madden to 2k will only lead to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

And that’s where us Franchise mode guys have been for the last decade with Madden.

Maybe this has already been brought up, and perhaps this won’t be well received by the community but I would bet that EA could add depth to franchise mode with premium DLC. I don’t like the idea of paying for DLC in a sports game, but if it’s truly about money, then at a bare minimum EA could do is reintroduce features like the time savers / team boosts from NCAA dynasty and then maybe allow for things like uniforms, extra relocations, etc...

For the record, I don’t like paying for DLC, but if it prompted EA to really invest in CFM as a moneymaker for them I could see it being a compromise

Nba 2k and Madden are on two different levels. I'm not even a nba "fan" or even a basketball fan, but I buy NBA 2K every year along with Madden.
