How much of an improvement is Madden 20 vs Madden 19? List your thoughts

Looking good to get some Gameplay Only feedback comparing Madden 20 vs Madden 19. The more specific the better. Do you see an improvement in a certain area Madden 19 lacked? Are things pretty much the same.

I won’t be able to tell until the first couple of patches. Most of the gameplay is, IMHO a major upgrade EXCEPT for the downgrade in zone coverage. But if that gets patched, gameplay becomes what I would consider a major upgrade.

Franchise will be a minor upgrade, unless the new player editor is patched into Franchise mode, inwhich case it will be somewhere in between major and minor.


Those are really the only two things I do (Franchise and game play), so that’s all I’ll base it on, but both will depend on what is altered in the first couple of patches.

A major upgrade, except I have 3-4 fumbles per game. Any time a QB gets hit outside of the pocket, any time a receiver gets hit soon after a catch, and during a lot of routine hits on the RB, even when covering the ball.

Hit Power Rating and Big Hit Trait may need toning down to curve the Big Hit Fumbles.

Playbooks upgrades are massive for gameplay. Game is much more smooth. QB release time is better, especially on deep throws. QB scrambling way better with LS click. QB pass trajectories and especially their impact on lurking LBs is amazing. Lots of great steps forward.



Not without it's flaws, but it's a solid step.

So far from feedback there seems to be Minor improvement with MADDEN 20. I hope to get some more feedback for myself and other Community Gamers who are on the fence.

heck, as of this post only 19 people even answered.

what is telling is out of 19 so far who took the poll, 18 feel gameplay is better. only 1 says it's worse.

I agree that it seems Positive, but I am looking for Major Improvement before I consider buying. So I will continue to weigh feedback and the voting. 10 years ago it would have been a Day 1 buy, but financial situation have changed that.

The movement seems better, different. I want to say the CPU, on All Madden, feels like it really plays smarter on offense, especially if the Quarterback has an Xfactor.
I know the X factor abilities are a mixed bag, but they seem to really separate the Quarterbacks.

That's really all I noticed.

To fairly answer your poll question, I based my answer on where Madden 20 is at launch, compared to where 19 was. Madden 20 is far and away ahead at this point in the cycle. Having said that, in my humble opinion there are 2 major flaws going on with the game that must be addressed. If they are, I think it will be the best Madden ever. If not, it will be a shame.

Player movement, pass trajectories and new playbooks are major improvements over 19. Madden 20 is worth the buy on those alone.

If a few patches help with the pass coverage this Madden will blow 19 out of the water in my opinion.

I didn't play 19 skipped it but from playing 20 the game has a lot of problems. Clock management by CPU is still not good like the last 10+ years, CPU has some plays were QB will keep going back and take a sack instead of getting rid of the ball. Sim stats are the worst they have ever been that I can remember in a madden game before. Pass coverage is the worst its ever been.

I second that with the playbooks, they really add to the fun factor for on the field gameplay. While still not perfect, this is the first Madden that I feel like the playbooks actually come close to what we watch on sundays. It will also definitely help this year that they now have the ability to continue to update the playbooks throughout the year. All of the new jet sweeps, plays with designed motion, and RPOs are a great addition to the game.

As a whole the gameplay is some of the smoothest I have played in at least a couple of Maddens. Usered players are so much more responsive this year, and player movement is much more fluid. The improved pass rush is great, it forces you to make a read pre-snap to determine what your read progression is going to be and actually go through your reads rather than trying to scan the whole field.

There are still negatives with the gameplay though. While the CPU playcall logic is better there is still a good amount of work that can be done. Probably my biggest negative is that while they improved man coverage, zone coverage feels even worse than before. Let's hope they can dial in the coverage through patches soon.

I'm not even sure how well liked '19 was but this game needs a couple things patched.Most notably Cpu late game logic/clock management.It has potential to be a bigger upgrade.

Hell,I'm not certain a lot of people on here think '19 is better than a previous version of their preference 16,17 or 18.For me if I don't want to play a 'problematic' game it would be 16.Last version without Cpu AI issues.Even more lackluster franchise though.
