LSU | RB Rodgers garnering some Heisman buzz?
    Mon, 4 Sep 2028 11:32:13 -0700
Carley McCord of WDSU-TV New Orleans reports that LSU sophomore RB Scottie Rodgers' hot start to the 2028 season is starting to get the attention of members of the Heisman Voting Committee, according to sources. Rodgers, a former 4-star prospect out of Marksville, Louisiana, so far has 121 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns while also contributing a team-high 11 receptions for 166 yards and 3 scores.

The shifty 5-11 213 pound runner, who is coming off a game in which he gained 171 scrimmage yards and 3 total touchdowns in just 2 1/2 quarters of action, could find himself on ESPN's Top 5 Heisman List in the near future if his strong play continues.

LB Derek Kerr has been noticeably absent from the lineup at crucial moments during LSU's games thus far in 2028.

LSU | LB Kerr dealing with with adult-onset asthma
    Mon, 4 Sep 2028 14:29:23 -0700
Eve Jewell of ESPN's SEC Network reports that LSU true freshman LB Derek Kerr, who has been seen going in and out of the lineup frequently throughout the Tigers' first two games of 2028, is battling with an adult-onset asthma condition that is preventing him from staying on the field, according to a Kerr family source. Kerr, a former 4-star prospect and the #1 player on LSU's recruiting board last year, could see his snaps decreased as a result. Currently a part of every defensive formation and most of the Tigers' special teams units, Kerr is likely to be removed from certain defensive packages as well as special teams in an effort to keep him fresh, possibly as early as this weekend's contest at Texas A&M.

When asked about the situation, Tigers head coach D. Geezy indicated that he's not allowed to discuss any players' medical condition, but did state that "Derek remains a big part of (the team's) plans this year and moving forward."

Great job with Michigan! I'm not gonna jinx you but I am looking forward to A&M-LSU; that's one of the conference realignment rivalries that make the most sense to me... Oughta call it the battle for Houston...

Anywho, really great dominance against Big Blue. Looking forward to what comes next.

Thanks man...Scottie Rodgers is really starting to emerge. I never would have imagined he'd already be getting some looks from the Heisman committee after just two games, but it looks like he's starting to make a name for himself.

I must say, the only bad part about these blowouts is that guys like Scottie are barely playing more than a half. Oh well, good problem to have.

As always brother, I appreciate you continuing to follow!

I gotta say that Michigan loss reminds me of 2001 when my Huskers got dismantled by the Hurricanes - it just hasn't been the same since (though we are starting to look up). I have to wonder if the loss to Texas (and subsequent loss to your Tigers) has the Michigan fan bases starting to wonder the same tragic fate? They definitely have the talent, but with young football players/kids - two big defeats like that can do a lot to the teams mental state - it will definitely be interesting to follow this club the remainder of the season.

As far as your Tigers, what a different way to start the football game! Week one you got on the board quickly with some gut punches, but this week you took a more methodical offensive attack and just attacked Michigan on your way to the score.

You definitely need to get McNeal a game-ball following those two massive plays he had on the defensive side of things. This ballgame could have been played out significantly different had he not made those two huge turnovers (4th down and the forced fumble). Again, football is all about momentum, and when you're wearing down the other team via long and methodical offensive attacks, you can pretty much destroy them when you force them to make mistakes when they do have the football. Great play all-around by that defensive.

I gotta say this upcoming contest against Texas A&M is going to be exciting! That speed that they have is insane! I can see the defensive back coaching staff not getting any sleep as they have to come up with some sort of a plan to ensure those guys don't get behind the secondary.

Definitely lots of good games to tune into as well - Cal/Notre Dame and Texas/West Virginia should be solid football to watch, and it will be extremely interesting to see how Michigan can come back following this throttling you provided when they face the Tigers of Missouri.

Keep up the great work my man! Very entertaining read.
What's up Proof...no need to apologize my man! I appreciate you taking the time to read this and respond with such great feedback.

I was amazed at how we just absolutely dominated the Wolverines. This was one of those games where I had to press pause and go into the settings menu just make sure that I was still on Heisman mode and all my settings were intact! haha

42-7 against the #5 team in the country doesn't happen very often. It wasn't until a day or so after the game that I realized that they lost by virtually the same score in the National Championship Game to Texas last season. It definitely appears they're still hungover from that pounding. As you state, it'll be interesting to see how they fare the rest of the way here.

The ball control gameplan was key last week versus Michigan, and I think the same may be the case this week versus Texas A&M, who similarly to Michigan, likes to deploy a no-huddle attack, so we can really limit their possessions if we can hold onto the ball and get some stops on D.

In hindsight, I wish I had given LB Will McNeal just a tad bit more shine in the article. He really did come up big for us in that game, as he's done in many games thus far in his young career.

Glad to see you following along old friend. The mere fact that you took the time to even check out what is going on around the country with other teams is appreciated in itself; there really are some awesome side stories around the country that get lost in the shuffle. I need to do a better job of paying attention to that myself in other people's dynasties.

          Thanks again!

I'm finding myself a little more excited about this game versus A&M than I would have thought, and I think you just hit the nail on the head as to why. This has always been such a natural rivalry in real life; us Louisianians don't care too much for teams from Texas. Hopefully we can knock these guys off and keep this early momentum rolling!

          Thanks for checking in man!

Game 3, Year 2 Preview (2028 season): #18 LSU Tigers at #13 Texas A&M Aggies

            GAME 3 PREVIEW

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

            ....................Pick'em ....................

1995: In the two schools' last meeting some 33 years ago, former LSU and NFL standout Kevin Faulk, then a true freshman, rushed 14 times for 76 yards, however the Tigers fell in a 33-17 loss at College Station.

Series History: A series that began in 1899 and has had many starts and stops over the past century, LSU and Texas A&M will meet for the first time since 1995 this upcoming weekend at College Station. The two schools were once members of the same conference together — the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) in the early 1900s along with many current SEC members — and played several out-of-conference games against each other during the 20th century. The Tigers are 26-20-1 all-time versus the Aggies, however the two programs have not met since their clash 33 seasons ago, a game the Aggies won 33-17 at College Station under their legendary former head coach and College Football Hall of Famer R.C. Slocum. In fact, Texas A&M has won each of their last five contests versus the Tigers, a streak that dates back to 1991.

As a part of the two-game football contract signed by the two schools last year, the Aggies and the Tigers will meet again next season in Baton Rouge.

Second year LSU head coach D. Geezy has never faced Texas A&M during his coaching career.

            Injuries:

            :

10-WR Russell Stephens (sr) - 80 ovr: Torn Achilles, out for the season

            :

            None

            2027 Season Recaps:

: For a third straight season, despite the hiring of two-time national champion and six-time SEC champion head coach D. Geezy, LSU finished the year 8-5, a record that includes a very disappointing 51-38 loss to Wisconsin in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day. With senior QB Rob Mason now playing in his fourth and final year as LSU's starting quarterback, the Tigers hope to get out of the abyss of mediocrity and to at least finish a season ranked for the first time since 2022. The team returns 9 starters on offense from last year, losing only its starting fullback and center, but returns just 5 starters on defense in 2028.

: Led by an offense that finished ranked 17th in the nation in scoring with 33.7 points per game, the Aggies used a balanced attacked in 2027 to finish the year with an impressive 10-3 record, their third double-digit win season in the past four years, which was good enough for them to finish third in the final Big 12 standings. After starting 2027 with a sensational 8-0 start, the Aggies faltered a bit down the stretch, falling to Missouri, rival and eventual 2027 National Champion Texas, and also to current LSU head coach D. Geezy's former team Tulane in the Cotton Bowl. Now led by first year starting QB Jimmy Goss (81 ovr.), the Aggies return only four starters on offense from last year's squad, including the blazing fast WR Vince Sampson (81 ovr., 98 spd), while defensively, the team has 7 starters remaining from last season, including star senior MLB Denny Harris (87 ovr.).

This game looks like a must win with a tough stretch to start off conference play.

Ha...I was only kidding on the lack of comments. These things go through cycles. We usually hit a slow season right about this time of year, then it picks back up again around the time the real life regular season starts. It's the nature of the beast.

Hmmm...that's not a bad idea to keep this thing with A&M going. If this last game is any indication of what we'd be in for in the future, I'd be down for it.

Will they look to play a bit more off on coverage to compensate?

Really looking forward to this game. An additional victory to begin the season will definitely cement your club in the Top-25 comfortably for the foreseeable future (not that the remaining schedule is a cake-walk).
As you'll see in a moment, you were absolutely right. Their offense put a lot of stress on us and their quarterback was incredible throughout the contest.

I actually think I played a bit TOO conservatively in the early going. We didn't really start to make plays until we began being more aggressive with our blitzing. I'll need to remember that moving forward.

                        Game 3, Year 2 (2028 season): #18 LSU Tigers at #13 Texas A&M Aggies

                        #18 51 -- 3-0
                        #13 45 -- 1-1

Brothers Lucas and Scottie Rodgers combined for 5 total touchdowns as LSU's offense remained red-hot for a third straight week.

In an absolutely wild Texas shootout, LSU scores 27 fourth quarter points to come away with a thrilling 51-45 comeback win over #13 Texas A&M | QB Mason, Rodgers brothers all nearly unstoppable for the suddenly red-hot Tigers offense | After what had been a long first three quarters of action, Bayou Bengals' defense puts on the clamps and comes up with pivotal plays in crunch time, including CB Harmon's game-winning pick-six | With showdown versus rival Tulane looming in just two weeks, team must stay focused and not look past next week's SEC opener versus #21 Georgia

College Station, TX -- #13 Texas A&M absolutely dominated #18 LSU for much of the first half and led for virtually the entire afternoon, but a massive fourth quarter scoring flurry along with a pair of crucial forced turnovers by their defense were enough for the visiting Tigers to prevail for an insane 51-45 victory at College Station. In a game in which both team's offenses had over 600 total yards, Tigers QB Rob Mason played one of if not the best game of his career, throwing for 404 yards and 5 touchdown passes, three to RB Scottie Rodgers and a pair to his older brother, TE Lucas Rodgers, as LSU was able to outlast the Aggies and make enough big plays to win its third straight game to open up the 2028 season.

QB Rob Mason threw for over 400 passing yards, 5 touchdowns, and no interceptions, marking the first time in his career that he's accomplished each of those three feats in the same game.

The day for LSU got off to a rough start, as Mason's fumble on the game's opening series was recovered by A&M and quickly cashed in for a touchdown by its offense, and the early bleeding would not stop there.

Behind precision passing by QB Jimmy Goss and a strong performance by true freshman RB David Bell, Texas A&M (1-1) stormed out to a 24-7 first half lead and seemed to be on the brink of blowing away the Tigers. However, a dazzling 66-yard touchdown run just before halftime by S. Rodgers cut the Tigers' deficit to 24-14 just before halftime.

The sophomore running back, who is starting to get into the early-season Heisman conversation according to a report last week, finished the evening with a season-high 158 rushing yards on only 16 carries and a touchdown to go along with a season-high 7 receptions for 63 yards and 3 receiving scores.

His brother Lucas also came through with big plays and an impressive stat line on Saturday, hauling in 6 receptions for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns, and his 50-yard touchdown to open up the second half cut LSU's deficit to 24-21 early in the first half.

"Getting Lucas involved heavily was a major point-of-emphasis coming into the week and he made big play after big play for us," said LSU first year offensive coordinator Bryce Allen. "They had a lot of problems stopping the combo of him and Scottie, and that opened things up for guys like Glen Walker to have a big day." Walker finished with 4 receptions for 108 yards, both season-highs.

A scintillating 89-yard touchdown run by Bell and a 10-yard touchdown pass from Goss to WR Dylan Burks however increased the Aggies lead back to 38-24 heading into the fourth quarter. But that's when the scoreboard fireworks for the Bayou Bengals got started, with a pair of major assists from the team's defense.

Mason's 13-yard touchdown pass to S. Rodgers early in the final period was quickly followed up by a 41-yard touchdown run by Aggies backup RB Shane Fritz that pushed A&M's lead back out to 45-31 with 5:10 to go, but that would be the last time the Aggies' offense would experience any success.

On a drive aided by a 51-yard pass completion from Mason to Walker, S. Rodgers' 5-yard touchdown reception cut his team's deficit to 45-38. Then, on Texas A&M's ensuing drive, Tigers star LB Will McNeal stepped in front of Graham for his first career interception, giving his team the ball deep in Aggies territory. McNeal finished the game with 5 tackles and a sack to go along with the turnover.

RB Scottie Rodgers accounted for 221 yards from scrimmage and four total touchdowns on Saturday, as the sophomore sensation continued his climb to stardom as well as his rise into the Heisman conversation.
The turnover was quickly cashed in for yet another touchdown pass from Mason, this one to a leaping Lucas from 18 yards out, tying the game up at 45-45 with 3:21 to go. And after getting throttled for most of the day, the Tigers defense wasn't done just yet with the late heroics.

Junior CB Jerome Harmon, who has made a couple of other big plays in crucial moments during his time in Baton Rouge, did so again on Saturday with the Aggies driving. Goss, who had played near-flawlessly for the entire game, attempted a short pass attempt in the direction of Burks, however Harmon was able to step in front of the throw to come away with an interception and take it to the house, giving LSU its first lead of the game at 51-45 in emphatic fashion with less than two minutes to play. The Tigers would miss the extra point due to a mishandled snap, but it would end up not mattering.

A pair of holding penalties on the Aggies' final offensive possession, two of a whopping 13 penalties committed by the Aggies on Saturday, would back them up deep in their own territory. The penalty would soon be followed up by a sack by DT Travis Fellows, and Texas A&M quickly found themselves in a 4th and 27 situation inside of their own 5-yard line. With the odds heavily stacked against them, the bewildered Aggies were forced to punt with just over a minute remaining despite being down, and it would be the last time they'd see the football.

A 28-yard first down carry by S. Rodgers that put the ball deep into A&M territory along with a couple more clock-draining runs were enough to ice the game away, forcing the Aggies to use all three of their timeouts, and helping cap off one of the more epic wins in recent LSU memory.

"Boy was that whole game intense or what," said a fired-up LSU second year head coach D. Geezy during his postgame press conference. "Hats off to our entire team. The offense was unbelievable, the defense was shaky early but came through when we needed them most. I know we had the missed extra point due to the bobbled controller, er, I mean snap, but I thought the kicking game was good as well for the most part.

"I am so excited about where we are as a program right now, but now we just gotta stay hungry and keep grinding here as we move into conference play. That said, what we did today, in this stadium, against that team; it was truly something special and a game I won't soon forget. Go Tigers!"

LSU (3-0) will host Georgia (2-0) next week at Tiger Stadium. The Bulldogs will be coming off of a 19-3 upset victory over #15 South Carolina in Columbia and will be looking for their first victory versus LSU since 2019. The Tigers, on the other hand, will be looking to improve their record to 4-0 for the first time since all the way back in 2013.

Kyle Field was lit like Bic as the Aggies got set to take on LSU for the first time since 1995, some 33 seasons ago.

Wide receivers Vince Sampson (#1) and Brandon Merrick (#83) each were clocked in the 4.24 range in the 40-yard dash as high school prospects and were a focal point of LSU defensive coordinator Charles Kelly's gameplan. Sampson was held to just 3 receptions for 19 yards, however Merrick shined in the slot position, hauling in 8 catches for 79 yards on the afternoon.

On the game's opening drive, LSU QB Rob Mason was stripped of the football by A&M standout MLB Denny Harris and CB Justin Scott recovered, giving the home team some early momentum.

LSU's lone turnover on the day would eventually lead to a 9-play 65-yard drive by the Aggies which culminated with WR Tyler Graham getting a step on Tigers freshman CB Vince Cromartie for this 4-yard touchdown reception which gave Texas A&M a 7-0 lead.

With his team down by 17, LSU true freshman star RB Scottie Rodgers spun past CB David Brown and then did the same to FS Jason Mitchell (#2 above) on this sensational 66-yard touchdown run that made the score 24-14, giving the Tigers some life just before halftime.

Senior TE Lucas Rodgers, the older brother of Scottie Rodgers, was praised by LSU mascot Mike the Tiger following his season-long 50-yard touchdown reception that cut the deficit to 24-21 and put his team right back into the contest early in the third quarter.

Aggies true freshman RB David Bell ran circles around LSU's defense for most of the afternoon, amassing 210 yards on 21 carries, including this career-long 89-yard touchdown run that pushed his team's lead up to 31-21 in the third quarter.

Pic 1 of 2: With his team trailing 45-31 with under five minutes remaining, senior QB Rob Mason launced a deep pass in the direction of fellow senior, WR Glen Walker.

Pic 2 of 2: Walker was able to get the best of Scott, out leaping him for this game-changing 51-yard reception which put the Tigers deep in Aggies territory, down by 14 with 4:47 to go in the contest.

Just a couple of plays following Walker's big grab, S. Rodgers caught a pass in the flat and muscled his way through defenders for a 5-yard touchdown reception, and the sophomore's third touchdown reception of the day cut LSU's deficit to 45-38 with 4:05 remaining.

On the Aggies' offensive next series following S. Rodgers' last touchdown, LSU playmaking sophomore OLB Will McNeal came through with his first career interception, giving his team the ball back in A&M territory down by only 7 with just under four minutes remaining. McNeal finished the contest with 5 tackles and a sack to go along with the momentum-swinging pick.

Needless to say, following McNeal's interception, things became tense for the Texas A&M faitful in attendance. The turnover would eventually lead to a LSU touchdown that tied the game up at 45-45.

Pic 1 of 2: Texas A&M QB Jimmy Goss, who despite a pair of critical late mistakes that ultimately cost his team the game, finished 30 of 35 for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns. The second of those late mistakes occurred when he threw this pass in the direction of WR Tyler Graham with heavy pressure in his face from DE Jon Jackson.

Pic 2 of 2: LSU junior CB Jerome Harmon stepped in front of WR Devon Burks for an interception in crunch time, something he has done on a couple of other occasions during his time with the Tigers. The interception would end up getting returned 67 yards for a touchdown by Harmon, giving LSU its first lead of the game at 51-45 following a missed extra point.

LSU DT Travis Fellows took down Goss for a sack with just over a minute remaining, all but ending the Aggies' hopes for a game-winning drive late.

Following the game's final kneel-down, Mason and the Tigers celebrated one of the more epic comeback wins in school history, a win that improved LSU's record to 3-0 headed into Southeastern Conference play.

Woo! Helluva game there! What a comeback! Just snatched their souls right out of them. That was damned exciting.

Incredible performance by the Rodgers brothers. Gotta find a way to tighten up this defense, but this is great momentum to take into SEC play.

                            Looking forward to next week!

Just realized you finish the season against Oklahoma. Interesting choice.

That was without a doubt one of the more intense games I have been a part of. Every once in awhile you have one of those games that you know you're going to remember every minor detail about even years from now, and this was certainly one of them.

I had a feeling going in that I was going to have a hard time stopping their offense. I am a big practice mode guy, and I must say that I had a very tough time defending against some of their plays when preparing for the game. Thankfully, our offense is on-point this year and appears to be clicking on all cylinders heading into SEC play.

I can't say enough about the Rodgers brothers, especially Scottie, who by the way, just crept his way officially into the Heisman Watch list with that latest performance:

You know what, I didn't even notice that until you just pointed it out. It makes sense though, with us rising in the rankings as much as we did. I have a feeling that we could see another big jump this week if we get to 4-0...

                                Exciting times in Baton Rouge!
