Is it just me or is the pie chart just archetypes?
Where is the pie chart that splits 3 categories equally and leaves one very small? Better yet, where is the utility player with all 4 evenly spread out? I just loaded it up for the first time and I'm still looking through the builder but this is almost like choosing your 2 skills (or just one big slice) and editing it via height, weight and wingspan....2k19.
If I'm doing something wrong please let me know?Playing NBA 2K feels like a job that pays minimum wage and then cuts your pay when you get your Bill's right to make it even harder to succeed. I do not like this game but it's the only one in town.

Re: Is it just me or is the pie chart just archetypes?
so you've figured it out OP. you are correct. It is just archs hidden under charts.
when you see more than 2 or is it 3 things lit up in any one area. you then know thats a PURE arch.
You want a pure Arch defender in 2k20. make sure you have 3 or more rating blocks lit up in the Red area for DEF/REB.
SO yes its the exact same as last year. just is a bit more obvious to how the archs are setup. like what the exact splits are overall. thats all they did here. they gave you a visual of the numbers to keep you from having to literally write down all the numbers to see where you're at on certain builds. now you can eyeball it and see it. -
Re: Is it just me or is the pie chart just archetypes?
So how could some one make a split archetype with a 3rd skill as reported?? I just want a 2 way slasher that can hit miss. I'd take a 75 mid.Playing NBA 2K feels like a job that pays minimum wage and then cuts your pay when you get your Bill's right to make it even harder to succeed. Nah you right bro, it was quite an enthusiastic finesse job by 2k. It's still extremely limiting especially for bigs with just a modicum of more freedom than 2k19 in regards to assigning badges.
Whoever thought assigning an entire basketball player's into 4 skill sets, placing tight limitations on the individual skills within those buckets...i mean PIE CHARTS, then giving you an even more limited amount of attribute points to assign to those capped skills made sense in regards to the freedom to create unique players spent too much time getting hit in the face with a dodgeball in 2k19.
I keep hurting myself rolling my eyes at the loud *** youtubers screaming that this is the coolest thing ever, archetypes are gone etc etc. FinesssssedDie hard Heat and Dolphins fan since '89

Re: Is it just me or is the pie chart just archetypes?
When I first heard Pie Charts on community day, I was skeptical. Then YouTubers were hyping it up. Devs were saying you can build it your way like it was fully customizable. Then they said how you have over 415 Attributes and you could set the caps yourself after you pick your skill set. I thought cool you can fully set your attributes how you want. I was immediately wrong.
We pick a skill set and have to decide how to limit ourselves. So we still can't create a true superstar player. Even if they have custom pie charts, it still will be limiting if we can't truly set the attributes caps.
It would at least be nice if we could choose one of those 10 pie charts and that be our build. Where the maximum ratings for the skillset are the attribute caps. Where it might take longer to max out your player because more attributes to upgrade, but at least you have a better overall player. As far as badges go, they could give you 50 badge points spread out within the 4 skills. But a max of 25 badge points for your highest skill.Comment

Y'all know I'm one of the bigger "glass half full" posters here, but this was real finesse work. This is what happens when a company has pundits that they endorse and throw freebies/swag to.
All these youtubers saw this. All of them. Not a single one sat back and said anything. The shilled the koolaid.
"SO DIVERSE!"
"I could make the build *I* wanted!"
GTFOH. First thing: 2K is wrong for the bait and switch. You can @me, Beluba. Your team promised something completely different than what was handed to us. The badge thing is the only thing that stands out as "I want this feature".
Second: not that I liked any YouTube creators before but I was subscribed to Shake. As soon as I realized they all started doing the cheesy things and basically being toxic I started just doing my own thing. They are all puppets at this point. If they hype it up enough 2K gives them amenities. They helped sell this fabrication.
So, when the "Fangirl 2k stan" has an issue with what you're doing, you know you screwed upFemale Russell Westbrook.

Yes, they leaned a bit hard into the “you can make anything you want” hype, but again, they gave everyone 2 weeks to decide for themselves what the game is before they spent a dime on it. If that’s a finesse, it’s the worst finesse ever.
If anyone believed they were going to make a 100% accurate Lebron or Kobe build and bring it online they were fooling themselves. No one wants that. Not 2K, and not the people that play park/rec every day. Can’t have thousands of player builds out there with no weaknesses. They were never gonna allow that.Last edited by Kstat; 08-22-2019, 09:26 PM.Comment

Classifying players into any groups of any kind, where they have their own strengths and weaknesses, could be considered archetypes.Comment

...oooooor, and hear me out, The YouTubers all signed NDAs making them legally unable to say anything about it until the demo launch, which cost no one anything since the game won’t release for another 2 weeks anyway. But whatever makes you feel better about your stance.

Yes, I'm aware they won't let you make a player with no weakness. I've never been one to ask for that, and never cared that they didn't. However, you certainly can't do what they said, which is "make a build how you really want". I'm not asking for Kobe, or Harden, or Curry, or LeBron. But hell, I'd settle for an athletic PF that could run the floor well and rebound. How about a decent post build?
Like, I get checks and balances, but if I want to put all my points in handles, finishing, and shooting and throw defense out the window I should be able to. Or a guy who's low 80s/high 70s in every facet, just a utility guy?
Yes, you will always get the min max people. I'm not going to act like I wasn't think about how to optimize my skills, but that's it. I want to be able to cater to my personal skills.
I'll probably be able to finagle something with badge selection, but this is a pure bait and switch.Female Russell Westbrook.

Re: Is it just me or is the pie chart just archetypes?
These guys got “flewed out”, hotels and flights paid for, got to hang out with the devs and celebrities and were forced to sign NDAs.
We should have known they weren’t going to say anything negative about the game. They were glorified hype men and we fell for the hype.Comment

You know what they could've done? Just not echo chambered the hype. NDA be damned, you can talk about what they let you and just not repeat the same buzz phrase.

I'll bite:
Utility guy
Handles/Finishing/Shooting
Athletic PF
Decent Post
That's without badges, height/wingspan/weight, takeover or the speed/strength charts and you can do literally everything you want. You said you didn't care about being a superstar and none of those guys are superstars. They're good in exactly what you yourself say you wanted though and what you claim isn't possible.
We're getting exactly what everyone has claimed to want for years and you guys are STILL complaining. Hilarious."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

Re: Is it just me or is the pie chart just archetypes?
Yes, that is correct. How is it "build own player" when we have to choose from a preset pie chart? When I first heard about building your own myplayer I thought we were going to have the freedom to put our attributes in any areas we wanted. Obviously each position capped by height/weight/wingspan. My thinking was that based on what attribute we put will determine our "archetype" and badges we get. There only like 10 charts to choose from which feel very limiting.
On a sidenote I don't understand why rebounding is tied to defending it should have it own category. Why do I need to increase my rebound just to get more badge upgrades? Post scoring should not be in three different category it should also be it own category in my opinion.Comment
