The NHL 20 Alumni Completion Project

    Hey!

So, I've decided to do a little DIY spreadsheet roster using the Alumni teams.

I'm quite happy we have them, this is something that was in ESPN Hockey (and I did the renaming guide for that) and it's a great feature to have if done well.

And EA... did it okay. They had to stretch their licensed players to the limit they would stretch to fill all their teams, sometimes needlessly cluttering some, resulting in many duplicates. Mike Sillinger is in the game a dozen times, and Sean Burke is in there 7 or 8 times. And if you play Franchise with these teams, then you obviously don't want multiple Gretzkys and Roys running around.

That's where I come in. I will build new rosters around the existing alumni team. We have no roster sharing, shame on you EA, so this is DIY, I've made a spreadsheet, and you can follow my progress there.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...1fw/edit#gid=0

I've made my decision on the goalies. There should be a filter active on the sheet. You should see 4 goalies per team, everybody that is in pink will need to be either created or moved from another team. If you see a bunch of red players, those are the dupes, they can be filtered out by applying a filter to column F, filter by (blank). But I'm thinking they'll be hidden.

Some ground rules for the set:

    - Absolutely no active NHL players. But if they've retired in the offseason it's fine, hence Luongo on Florida, Niemi on San Jose...

    - If EA put in a dubiously deserving or active players, I'll at minimum remove him from the rosters and either put him in Free Agency (Like Soderstrom and Weiman) or plain hide him somewhere in Europe (Like Saros)

    - I'll tend to add post-1967 expansion players primarily, and frankly, mostly from the late 70s on. It's what I know, and probably what most of you know too. But make no mistake, Bobby Orr and Maurice Richard and the likes will be in. I don't think I'll add any pre-WW2 folks, though.

    - I'll do my best choosing on what team duplicated players will stay on. Sometimes, I pick because it's the obvious choice, sometimes I pick based on needs of the teams, for exemple, knowing the Habs had Plante and that I would add Dryden to them, I kept Roy on Colorado, knowing they would pretty much only have garbage goalies otherwise. I expect a fight because I put Belfour on Dallas and not Chicago, but he won a cup there and Chicago has Hall & Esposito already. Dallas has Turco, Wakaluk and ******* Roman Turek. They needed him. Tampa's best goalies are all active or better fits elsewhere, hence they have comically awful ones, better hope Puppa goes on a hot streak. Tell me what you think, give me an argument and I might switch folks around! But at the end of the day, it's a DIY set so you can move players around where you want.

    - I'm adding the Thrashers and the Seals / Barons franchise.

So, keep track of my progress in the spreadsheet! I'm starting on defensemen now.

    That's great.

I don't have the game yet but are you going to post CAP formulas of the missing players?

Yeah of course! First I'm spreadsheeting the rosters proper then doing all the CAPs. I'll source the CAPs in previous games as much as I can.

Have you only done goalies that's why it doesn't show any pink Defensemen or even a tab for Forwards yet?

Yeah only the listings from goalies is done for now, should have completed the D before the end of the day.

I've started to figure out the OVs of the CAP goalies too.

This is ambitious and much appreciated.

In-game Ds all listed and Atlanta / Oakland-Cleveland Ds set. Might still move Frank Kaberle to Carolina from Atlanta, I'll see how their D lines up.

              Now going through duplicates.

Defensemen are all listed now. Each team has 8, except Nashville. If Dan Hamhuis retires, he'll be on the team else Mark Eaton will.

I'll try to make a list of all default forwards before going to bed tonight.

Thanks for doing this. I know it's hard to choose the players that are duplicated. The one I always have a hard time with is deciding who Chris Chelios should play for? Should it be Detroit or Chicago, because with Detroit he won two cups there while Chicago he never won.

He had his prime in Chicago though. His best season in Detroit would have been his worse in Chicago, pretty much.

Plus I felt Chicago's D needed him more. Detroit already has Lidstrom, Fetisov & Konstantinov, Pronovost & Bergman.

This is a terrific idea. If I pick up NHL 20 I definitely use your work for the alumni teams. Sticking with 19 for now but 20 could be an early Christmas present. So terrible we can't share.
Pitching, defense and 2 out RBIs win a lot of ball games!

Nice, I started working on the alumni roster my self as soon as I got the game, just stumbled upon this thread now. Been going through all goalies and fixing their equipment for a start. Here's the edited Rogie Vachon:

Your spreadsheet sure will come in handy once it's time to add missing players. Too bad the no helmet glitch was "fixed" for NHL 20 though as we now can't create helmetless Bobby Orr and Esposito for example but can't have it all guess.

For appearances of some of the missing players, check out this spreadsheet by me and Sapinvert:

Any work around to get CAP goalies to wear the classic 70's type mask. Some alumni goalies have it so it's in the game somewhere?

When you say delete, are you meaning you are moving them off of the teams or you actually deleting them?
