TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Game #10 of Season
St Louis Blues (4-5-1) @ Boston Bruins (8-1-0)

The Bruins and Blues meet for the first time since Game 7 of last seasons Stanley Cup Finals. St Louis had gotten off to a slow start going 4-5-1 following their cup win while Boston has gone 8-1-0 to start the season and comes in with a 8 game win streak after losing to Dallas on opening night. Tuukka Rask and Jordan Binnington will be the goaltending matchup

1st Period - There was controversy just 24 seconds in as Pietrangelo put a shot towards the net that was immediately waved off by the referee as the puck was batted in with the glove by Jaden Schwartz but the call was overturned to a good goal after video review to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. The Bruins responded less than 3 minutes later when Brett Ritchie muscled Gunnarsson off the puck along the wall in the offensive zone and found Danton Heinen in the slot and his quick shot beat Binnington to tie the game at 1-1 with 17:03 left in the period. St Louis came right back a few minutes later as Tarasenko fired a shot on net that Robert Thomas got a piece of to redirect it under the bar to give the Blues a 2-1 lead as this game is off to a wild start with 3 goals in the first 5:53 of action. The Bruins took four penalties in the period but were able to kill off all of them as the 1st period came to an end with the Blues leading 2-1 and out-shooting the Bruins 13-11

2nd Period - The early stages of the 2nd period was very physical with both teams throwing the body around and not allowing many scoring chances. St Louis would go on the PP midway through the period with Marchand going off for slashing and Boston would come up with a big PK but David Backes sailed a puck over the glass to put the Blues right back on the PP with 8:30 remaining in the period. The Blues had some good looks on the man advantage but Boston got a couple big stops from Rask and would kill off the penalty keeping it a 2-1 game as they returned to even strength with 6:30 left in the period. The Bruins had some good pressure in the final minute of the period and Binnington would make his best stop of the night robbing Jake Debrusk with the pad and there would be no scoring in the 2nd period as the Blues carried a 2-1 lead into the intermission. St Louis had a 24-22 edge in shots after 40 minutes of play.

3rd Period - The Bruins entered the 3rd period trailing 2-1 and in need of a big effort in the final 20 minutes as the Blues have outplayed them through two periods. Binnington came up with a big save early to deny Coyle who had a great chance from the slot and the score would remain 2-1. The Bruins would go shorthanded again as Marchand was called for tripping to put the Blues on the PP with 13:23 remaining. The Blues were unable to capitalize on the man advantage as Boston came up with a critical kill to keep it a one goal game and return to even strength with 11:23 to play. Boston started to apply heavy pressure as they were dominating possession and had a glorious chance to tie the game when Bergeron and Bjork played give and go with the puck but Binnington came up with a huge stop as he went into a split and go the pad over to rob Bjork. The Binnington save proved to be huge as the St Louis would extend their lead when Robert Thomas stole the puck from Marchand and came in 2 on 1 with Sundqvist who fired a one timer past Rask to push the Blues lead to 3-1 with 7:13 remaining. The Bruins were pushing hard in the final 5:00 trying to get the tying goal but Jake Debrusk would go off for tripping with a little over 1:00 to play and the Bruins never got a chance to get the extra attacker as the Blues hold on for a 3-1 victory

* The Bruins lose a hard fought game to the Blues by a score of 3-1

* The Bruins suffer their first loss since the season opener in Dallas snapping their 8 game winning streak as they fall to 8-2-0 on the season

* Jordan Binnington was outstanding for St Louis stopping 38 of 39 shots in the win

* Tuukka Rask played well as he stopped 34 of 37 shots in the loss for Boston

* Robert Thomas scored a goal and added an assist for the Blues

* Danton Heinen scored the lone Bruins goal as he stays hot with his 8th goal in 10 games

* The Bruins had trouble staying out of the box as they gave the Blues 8 PP opportunities but were able to kill them all off and the Bruins have now killed off 35 of 36 opposing powerplays on the season

* The Bruins will be right back in action tomorrow as they travel to big apple to take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers are really struggling as they have gotten off to a terrible 1-7-0 start to the season.
