"Smashmouth" can be a lot of things, why don't you elaborate more on what you're looking for or a team to emulate?
What personnel do you have and what are their strengths?Comment

Re: How would you build the perfect smash mouth playbook???
If you’re on PS4, check out iteachpercussions custom books. He has a run heavy book that’s just what you’re looking for. All under center. He made them for his 1988 roster file. He’s got several on there, and they’re all really good.
Here’s a link to his roster project. You can get his exact PS ID from there.
The rosters are amazing as well. For an alltime legends team on xbox, search usertag haughtypine7723
The file is called xboxassantesgreatestever.
Teams finished:
Bears, bills, browns, KC, Dall, Miami, Philly, ATL, SF, NYG, Jags, GB, NE, OAK, Rams, Ravens, WASH, NO, PITT, broncos, Texans, panthers, vikings, coltsComment

Re: How would you build the perfect smash mouth playbook???
It’s hard to go into it when the generic playbooks isn’t editable no more lol. Some days I like all under center then some days I go with shotgun smash mouth. I know what your saying. It can go different ways when trying to make your mind up. Lol

Re: How would you build the perfect smash mouth playbook???
Here's what I'd do:
I'd build my run offense around:
Iso
Trap
Power
Counter
Toss
For non-gun sets, I'd have these in every formation. For gun sets, I'd modify to:
Trap
Power
Inside Zone
Within each set, I'd build in a PA scheme that includes the PA passes off of each of those runs. You can tell from the play art which is designed to go with which.
That said, you have some decisions to make about the rest of your passing game. I tend to like Walsh WCO stuff, so I'd make my passing core:
Slant
Stick
Spacing
Spot
Mesh
Smash
Flood
That means your core offense is 5 run concepts and 7 pass concepts.
For formations, I'd probably go w/ the following for the Is:
Pro
Slot
Wing
And I'd do that for I Pro, Strong I, and Weak I.
I'd have to look at the Single Back sets to decide what I'd want in there, but probably this as a starter set:
Wing
Ace
Ace Slot
I'll think more on it, but that's where I'd start, and I'd probably limit my Single Back sets to 5 and my gun sets to 5-7.Comment

Re: How would you build the perfect smash mouth playbook???
When you say “smashmouth” I think run heavy. Ravens have a really nice run heavy playbook. But it has a lot of read options so you would also need a mobile QB.

Re: How would you build the perfect smash mouth playbook???
I run what I would consider to be a smashmouth spread, based on what I used to run in NCAA 14. Basically it is a modernization of the mid-90s Nebraska offenses put entirely in Pistol and Gun. Inside zone, outside zone, power, counter, trap and some option mixed in, using mainly 22/21/20/12/11 (with an H-Back type TE) personnel formations. My pass game is very WCO. Lots of screens, lots of shallows/mesh/slants, lots of stick and three man snag (Z spot) type of stuff but I also run a ton of RPOs.
I originally tried to switch between under center, pistol and gun using the Ravens playbook (which is awesome), but I play almost entirely online and I found that I ended up with terrible tendencies in that style of offense. I'd go under center to run, pistol/gun to pass and run option, so what I ended up with was a Pistol/Gun hybrid. I think there are enough formations in each that you can be smashmouth/power, but you get the added benefit of a nice perimeter screen game, some nice RPOs, better pass protection and a quarterback run game if you happen to have a QB who can handle it.
If you don't want to create a playbook for it, I'd just go with the Ravens playbook. Even ignoring the QB run stuff, it is probably the best all around power run playbook in the game. If you do want to create one, I would honestly reverse engineer a playbook starting with the PASS concepts you want. Most run concepts can be found in some form or another in just about every possible formation in this game so you're going to be able to install your run game pretty easily, but getting the pass concepts you're comfortable with gets tougher.
I'm still working out the kinks in what I want to do, it changes here and there but I've run a variation of the same offense since my NCAA days and only recently moved to Madden to run it here so I've bought in to the philosophy. It isn't for everyone, a lot of people are way more comfortable under center and if you are, do it, just commit to it and don't develop tendencies like I tend to do.Comment

Re: How would you build the perfect smash mouth playbook???
If you like QB runs Run N Gun is a blast. You get enough under center stuff to make it work. You want two good TEs and a decent FB. Fastbreak ability on your QB not really optional or you lose the read options which are you replacement for Lookie RPOs when the D is too aggressive off the back side of your offensive formations.
"Smashmouth" in this game really means Dives and other Isos. If you actually have suitable Gs you can definitely run power and counter but high SPD, AGI, LBK, IBL, etc. are not optional.
You can run it out of any playbook. Your most important consideration will be the constraint plays you want to use when the D gets aggressive to stop your Iso run game.Comment

Re: How would you build the perfect smash mouth playbook???
I was going to make a different thread for this, but it works here best so might as well keep the discussion here.
I'm actually starting to struggle with my smashmouth spread playbook I talked about previously. I started using the generic Pistol playbook, then the generic Spread playbook, then back to Pistol. Each of those two generic playbooks gets me to like 80% of where I want to be offensively, but can't quite get there. The pistol playbook doesn't have any RPOs or any way to really stretch the field horizontally, the spread playbook doesn't have any way to get "heavy" and really grind out run beyond inside zone.
Unfortunately, the best formations/plays in each of those two generic playbooks are solely found in those playbooks, so they can't be put into a custom playbook. Why they don't make ALL formations and plays available for custom playbooks, I will never understand, but it makes it really tough.
I play almost entirely online, especially now that online franchises are destroyed by EA, and so I need answers for pinch buck/7 man press blitzes and the pistol playbook just doesn't have them. The spread playbook obviously does, but it doesn't really have answers for short yardage. An intelligent opponent can force me to the air in the spread playbook with ease and between the derpy pass blocking and constant dropped passes, that can go south in a hurry.
I want to be 22/21/12 personnel, with some 11 personnel stuff with WRs as potential ball carriers. In my mind, I'm picturing an offense based mostly in 20/21/22 pistol with some compressed gun stuff like Deuce Close, Gun Stack, etc to take advantage of split zone, jet and some other stuff but any time I try to put the playbook together, it just gets unwieldy.
My offense has always been heavy on formations, light on concepts but with the ability to get to all my concepts in any formation. I like being able to stress teams with lots of formations, especially being able to go closed trips or 2x2 with 2 TE to one side and 2 WR to the other (Wing Slot) but in order to get all the formations I really want in Madden, it is making the playbook MASSIVE.
Part of me thinks that if I just create an all pistol playbook adding in the RPOs that are missing from the generic pistol playbook I might be able to make it work, but the lack of decent working jet sweep/pass hurts. Would love to just be able to talk it through with some people, especially people who play user v user a lot and know how much press 7 man blitz nonsense you see online.Comment
