Have you retired from UFC 3?

Do you retire from UFC games? Or are you a super hardcore, and play every week until the next one comes out? Something in-between?

I personally find that retiring and taking a lot of time off between titles really sets me up for success. It helps to prevent burn out and also sort of 'resets' my style....meaning I won't get too caught-up in various techniques or tactics that change between titles.

UFC 1 --- I played 2 months and quit, hated that game and all the garbage cheezers who infested it lol

UFC 2 --- I played ~9 months straight, the game was really tough to love early on, but got much better. Still, my interest waned and I hung-up my gloves.

UFC 3 --- I played ~18 months before retiring. Way more depth (in striking), and less cheeze (especially after a half dozen patches or so) made the game so much more fun than its predecessors. Although I didn't enjoy Ultimate Team as much in UFC 3 as I did in UFC 2, I actually played it more in UFC 3. Weird. But my main motivation for sticking around so long was the Live Event Competitions. Yes, we had them in UFC 2, but I felt that they were more consistent & fun in UFC 3.

UFC 4 --- ??? --- Not sure if I will ever play a single game 'hardcore' for more than 18 months at a time lol but hoping UFC 4 will keep me interested as long as UFC 3 did. Improvements to grappling & clinch (or lack thereof) will probably make all the difference between playing for 9 months, or 18 months. Hoping for the best!

Re: Have you retired from UFC 3?

I made another run at competitive then threw the towel in. I think I got to 2050 points at my best.

I don't ever remember the upper level meta being this tedious. Seems like everything has become about abusing body strike evasion or squinting at your ben-Q monitor in side control. Sure there are some people that fight super clean and still kick *** but that's pretty rare.

Seriously I don't know why more hasn't been made of the awful state of body punching. There is a truly atrocious ratio of people sneaking a lead hook in a combo versus guys doing (jab-feint-body-straight / body-jab-lightning-lead-hook).

That and I truly have no clue what the deciding factor is between a body kick getting a stun reaction (even if its terribly timed from inches away) vs a pretty clean land with no stun reaction that allows you to get 3 piece frame trapped into a critical knockdown.

Re: Have you retired from UFC 3?

If I had to rank all UFC games of the last 10 years EA UFC 3 wouldnt rank in the top 3.

I played UFC 2 6-8 hrs daily til UFC 3 came out and I wish I never stopped playing it. Striking was kinda bad, grappling wasnt really what it could have been, but the game was so much fun, that it didnt really matter to me. UT was great always new opponents with new CAF creations and action all day long. Physics, absolutely beautiful physics. Sometimes a player took an uppercut and it resulted in a backflip lol... okay... thats not good, but still better than in UFC 3 where the game just crashed on me cause the game couldnt take the physics.

UFC 3, I played it daily until about 6 months after release. The game became so repetitive that I couldnt take it anymore. I also didnt like the update with the cage TKO cause 1. it happens WAY too often and 2. there is only one animation for it. What I really liked was the speer tho... Im not a grappler but that thing looks beautiful. Striking is good, but I hated the magnetic hit detection.

I really like to create CAFs and test them out. So Im not 100% done with the game, but Im dying for a better MMA game atm. Only Offline. No more online. Too Toxic.

No need to talk about THQs games we all know why we loved them so much.

Imho Take EA UFC 3s striking, add EA UFC 2 physics and hit detection, bring us better more dynamic grappling (UD 3s should do it) and create the best and cheapest recycled UFC game there ever was.

I occasionally play just to get my fix lol.

I'm eagerly anticipating UFC 4's release though.

I have not played for a year or so. Had nothing to do with the game though, PS Plus expired and I stopped using the PS4 entirely. I could easily turn it on tomorrow and still have fun with the game but at this point I'll wait for the next one.

How do you retire from a game but still play it occasionally? Lol

Anyway I still play it quite frequently. I don't play it daily but I have quite extended play sessions (well 2 hours is long to me nowadays).
            ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not yet but sometimes I want to...I get a 7 wins streak thinking I finally figured out the way to progress, then the next day I lose 4 in a row and here I am stuck in div. 4

I still play just for fun and to try and get better at the striking, I don't grapple anymore. I just play ranked occasionally when I'm bored, trying out new striking methods and gameplans. I still enjoy the game, but have no desire to be at the top of ranked leaderboards like I did in seasons 1-8.

Currently playing in the Ricky J tournament, but that's probably the last of my competitive endeavors for UFC 3 unless ESFL has a one off card or something.

I only retire when a new game drops. It has been this way since UFC Undisputed 3.

I haven't flat out hated any MMA games except those trash ones like Bellator MMA and Supremacy.

There is always something to appreciate and it keeps me playing till a new one comes out. That plus my YouTube channel and passion for making videos.

I played UFC2 more than any other MMA game though, I was really trying to grow my channel and I ended up playing thousands of online fights with my real account and the experience looking back now was absolutely awful. Many times I would feel totally burned out, but I had to keep playing.

With UFC3 though, apart from the fact that it's the best MMA game on the market, I'm more established and using a lot more fighters, playing on Alternate accounts and logging off the moment I lose at least twice in a row has helped tremendously. I'm nowhere near burned out and won't be anytime soon.

I retired from competition many months ago and even longer than that if we're talking in spirit. I lost to a bunch of people who had no earthly business beating me so even though I still enjoyed playing I hung it up because the community is so garbage. I play every now and then on quick fight, hunting the helpless masses, hoping for the occasional good player.

Thise bellator games were definitely trash but with yukes being independent from 2K we have a punchers chance of getting all the good stuff that we got from undisputed 3

My mates and I still have fun playing but after a while we have to switch to FIFA .

We keep playing UFC by starting at SW div all the way to Heavy w div.

But it's starting to get a bit stale now. I really don't want to buy FIFA 20 but since it looks like UFC 4 won't be out any time soon just gonna have to bite the bullet and get FIFA for that's sports juice.

Like Martial I play consistently until the next game is released. Keeping it real I was seriously bummed out playing the Beta for ufc-3 which may be attributed to UFC-2 being the first video game I played since Pac-Man back in 1977 lol.

I couldn't believe how they totally revamped the striking system for just about every move and it had my fingers playing a game of twister. ufc 2+3 are still the only video games on my Xbox and I have zero interest in another games.

Also it took about a good 7-8 months and probably as many patches to where the game should of been at when it was released, which is why I don't feel a need for another rush job and will be fine with an April to June release as long as the game comes out spot on from the get go. for true die hards the best addition has to be the refreshing of the leader boards and start of a new season.

As for UFC-4 I would be happy if EA put half the input that they did in the striking department into the ground and clinch game (I seriously don't mean by changing the move sets for transitions-denials- reversals and sweeps) as I am certain nobody wants to go through that again but it seems like 90% of the effort was put into the striking mechanics of the game and as far as they go I honestly don't know what die hard strikers (outside of a small handful of issues) could really want as EA did a brilliant job in that department.

With UFC-2 Ultimate Team was just about every players favorite mode at some point and a huge let down for most players especially the elite players with channels. If I didn't come across a player from the UK's YT channel (SJH Sports) I believe a good 7 or 8 months into the game I would still be clueless to how it functioned correctly.

The kicker is that the great thing about UT was creating your own fighters and I can remember clear as a bell the player who got banned near the end of UFC-2's run for figuring out how to incorporate Stephen Struve into the game at LW and then that was the direction EA went full steam with UFC-3 lol. I would much rather just having the fighters you create in UT in UFC-4. Also when grinding for coins or just playing single player mode I think it is a must that you get to take preference of what corner you want. i don't care how good a player someone is, by always having the red corner your brain gets too used to see in all animation from that point of view and it has an effect when you play online. For some guys it can be very minor to bill and for some a big difference. Also it would be great in the practice room to position and record your opponent attempting a sub or reversal, act as well as clinch work.

On that note this game has brought a ton of fun to the house and I am hooked for life !
