    Running with Turbo

Someone in Matt10s slider thread brought up a good point. I have been struggling to run the football but am wondering if it's because i'm using turbo too soon. Do any good, veteran Madden players have any suggestions on running the ball?

Generally speaking, yes... hitting the turbo too soon will doom your chances of running the ball well. On inside run plays, I won't hit it until I clear the DL and even then, if there is a LB or SS close by I just don't bother w/ the turbo.

I think the same applies to screen passes. I learned you have to be patient and let the blockers get there-- except in the cases where the DL just so happens to read the screen perfectly and there isn't anything you can do about it.

He said it perfectly, I don't normally hit it till I'm passed the Dline and I'm trying to outrun a defender. It's hard not to hit the turbo as soon as you see the whole but you got to give the Oline time to really set their blocks.

This was really big in Madden 19 last year, i had better running success when not using turbo right away. Yes it is hard, especially right away not to hit that turbo button but trust me it will make things better.

Go in practice mode in your franchise and practice run plays doing that

Go in practice mode and be extra slow hitting the hole just to get a feel for how they develop. I was getting nowhere running until I learned to be more patient, especially on shotgun runs

I appreciate the tips, guys. I will definitely hop into practice mode and work on my patience.

I use turbo when making a cut and shooting through the hole or once my blockers are all engaged in their blocks. Try using the visual on field trainer during games that tells you precisely when to use turbo and other ball carrier moves.

It's been in Madden for years but as soon as you hit sprint the entire dline blocksheds. Be patient and success is pretty easy.

I'm guilty of using Turbo too soon myself. I remember not too long ago the turbo was called The Kill Me Now button haha.

the only time you should hit turbo behind the line is when you're trying to outrun someone (for instance if you're doing a run to the outside) You have better maneuverability with it off anyway.

Honestly, I don't even use turbo until I know for a fact that it's a breakaway run. I've gotten so much better at running without turbo it now feels cheesy!

Another thing i do is make cuts as I go the the hole. What I mean is, don't run straight go side to side.....the blocking becomes amazing when you wiggle through. And I don't mean special moves, just feathering (not jamming) the left stick very easy. It's an almost guaranteed 6 - 7 yards or more. Then the defense will actually start defending the run so you can pass or even play action!

Hitting turbo makes your OL “advance” or go up field. If you hit turbo too soon, you funk the risk of the OL missing it’s assignment.

If you're o line is zone blocking you need to wait for your guard to come off his combo block or you'll get stuffed by the linebacker. My guard sucks tho so I get stuffed anyway
