    Man Read Blitz Calls

Something I’ve been wondering about for awhile and the Eagles-Seahawks game reminded me of are man calls where if the defender reads his man is blocking he’ll automatically blitz. Not sure the real life terminology for this.

Sometimes when I call Cover 1 I’ll see my defenders doing exactly this, if their man stays into block they’ll go ahead and blitz. Other times though, the assigned man will block but the player just stands there and does rush.

I’m wondering what dictates this, does it only apply to certain Cover 1 calls? Is it based on player awareness?

I think it has to do with traits. If a player is designated as a pass rusher or coverage player in their traits it will dictacte what they do when their player goes out to block

It's not tied to player traits. The logic to blitz or not is contained within the play. The only way to know which are which is experimentation because AFAIK there is no central resource.

Different schemes have different names for it, but it's typically known as a 'green dog'.

Guess I’ll just have to keep experimenting. If anyone figures out which plays have them built in and under what circumstances they trigger please report here! Thanks for the help all.

I haven’t tracked exactly which plays because I’m usually controlling a MLB, but when I do notice it from my CPU teammate I usually see it out of Cover-1.

It's mostly out of a 4-3 or 3-4 defense and some 46 sets or any other front where the OLB has pass coverage responsibility's usually the HB or FB sometimes its the TE...if they block he will Blitz.

This is correct. We call it a “green dog” in Bowles system here in Tampa as well
