User control for all 32 teams house rules

Wondering if anyone who controls every team in their franchise has any house rules they go by when making roster moves, etc for teams. Right now I have them all set to auto for everything but I'm sure they're are dumb things the CPU does with signing free agents and drafting and what not. I was thinking of possibly making a guide to quickly make adjustments based on certain criteria, like making sure a team pursues a specific position in free agency if their starter is below X overall rating. Any suggestions are welcome!

I have Auto Progress on, scouting, injury management, and preseason cut days in Auto. Offseason FA bidding in Manual is a must for me. I like to manually do free agency, just so all the players coming into their prime get to stay with there original teams.

Re: User control for all 32 teams house rules

I run a 32 team CFM on the first year and try to keep it parallel (or a week behind at the most) to the current NFL season, meaning I play as many games as I can fit in that week. Afther the offseason I then switch to controlling only 1 team - the Buffalo Bills.

For example right now I'm playing the games for Week 6 and will conclude (will sim any outstanding games by saturday night).

I mentioned the above because that gives me the opportunity to make the trades and other relevant cuts happening in real life.

Before playing a game I will:

      - Do the college scouting for each team (the one I will control and the CPU) based on the needs listed on the screen or known needs (e.g. given an impending FA who is unlikely to be resigned)

      - Sim the training and allow the CPU to upgrade the players.

      - If the team has an injury and the back-ups are very, very low rated I might look into signing a FA (always rated 20% or lower than the injured started).

      - I usually renegotiate (based on the known workaround) any contracts on the roster to better distribute money through the life of the contract if current cap space allows for it.

      - I will re-sign key players during the season for that team cap permitting.

FYI when deciding which team I play and which one the CPU plays I pick the team that won on the actual NFL game except when I really like the other team (Broncos, Vikings, 49ers and of course the Bills).

During the off-season I will control the FA and draft for all 32 teams trying to be fair to all and not doing any crazy movements.

I will avoid block buster trades or unrealistic FA moves (e.g. let Brees / Brady walk away and sign with another team).

Things that I might do is bench qbs for poor performance or if out of contention to give back-ups time to develop. In certain situations I will create some story lines to handle things I want to see...for example:

I wanted Minshew to start for the Jaguars but in my CFM Foles was not injured, though he had a poor start in the first 3 games so I benched him.

At the end of the season, depending on how Minshew develops and his end of year stats I might decide to trade Foles to say the Buccaneers (I have benched Winston for poor performance) or the Titans (Mariotta wants an elite QB contract which I don't think is realistic).

So all in all, why the team I will continue to play in future years are the Bills I do not make any roster movements on other teams too benefit the Bills in any way. Just try to keep it realistic and fair.

Once I switch to focusing only on the Bills from year 2 onwards I do keep control of the remaining 31 teams just to help keep rosters realistic or to go on certain franchise rebuilds, for example on year 2 I might do a re-build of the Broncos with Drew Lock as the building block.

That's kind of the things I like and it keeps the game fresh for me, I get to play with all teams and during the NFL season feel a bit more into my CFM. Once I tried just doing a Bills franchise but by year 3 or 4 the league was unrecognizable with all sorts of whack roster moves specially when it comes to key star positions and its difficult for me to buy in and feel it is realistic.

      Hope this helps.

How do you play with all the teams? I’m only getting the option to play the team I entered the franchise with.

Once you start the franchise with your initial team, you have to then create all of the other teams. Do this by, on PS4, press R3 to create a new character. It takes you to the screen you see to select a team and all of that. You can simply be the coach for that team just like normal. Go through and take over all 32 teams by repeating the process. That allows you to play every game or sim them, control whatever you want, etc...

          Hope that helps

Didn't want to create an entirely new thread for my one question.

I've setup 32 team league control and am nearly done with the 2019 regular season but I've run into a potential issue. I was an owner for Oakland, did the relocation and picked Vegas but the problem is at no point did it allow me to set the name, logo, jerseys or stadium and I'm confused as to why. My commissioner team is the Niners and not Oakland, could that have somehow caused it? Any insight as to what will happen since the game never let me customize anything? I wasnt going to change any of the logos, jerseys or team name but would have liked to have selected the stadium but never was provided thr option.

interesting as I do the same, Commish is Giants, but I set Oakland to move to Vegas. I got the info to select relocation, then the next week or the week after I got the select team name, keeping it as the raiders, then i got to select a stadium. And the Raiders only have about 185 million (they are 1-9 at this point) but the stadium is going to be quite a bit more. So somewhere in there you missed a step, I would think. I was even getting News saying the Raiders will keep their name, and later that they were giving Oakland the shaft again.

Wonder if I simmed past it on accident then as I wasnt checking them weekly. Now I'm curious to see what happens at seasons end since I made zero selections.

Re: User control for all 32 teams house rules

I do the weekly training and select the focus players for each team. The focus players cannot be older than 25. In odd weeks the drills are passing/pass defense and in even weeks I do rushing/rush defense. Until a team has gold in a category, I "play" the drills in coach mode. Each week a team gets three tries to get a gold and if it doesn't get gold it has to settle for whatever it got on the third try. Once there is gold in a category, I sim the training. I try to go with the desired archetype for upgrades but if there is a lot of disparity I just stick with their top category because that's "who they are".

Contract negotiations: hit them with the default offer first. If it's declined, the offer can be improved once. If the second offer is declined, then no more in-season offers can be made. The team gets one more shot at the end of the season, and a third "no" equals free agency or a tag.

In my 2020 offseason I had Ron Rivera retire, then changed mode with the Redskins to owner, fired Gruden, hired Rivera and then changed mode back to coach. For new coaches not in the game I retire the original, then create the new coach.

Retirement prevention (i.e. Fitz) and replication (i.e. Kuechly): Before advancing past the SB, edit the player's age down to keep them around or max it out to force retirement. At the beginning of the 2019 season I kept Dez and Berry in the FA pool by signing them to a team, changing their age to 21, and then releasing them.

In free agency I have each team that would be interested in a player make the default bid.

I super sim the games of the other teams mainly because it keeps ties down, in fact I have yet to see super sim produce a tie. One thing to watch out for in super sim though: twice I have seen a team get shut out but get credit for the win, even though the scoring summary and stats clearly show otherwise. It's prudent to save before simming each game to allow for a do-over.

Re: User control for all 32 teams house rules

I tend to let the league play out from season to season. I do a 32-team control owner league, using tdawg's progression settings. When it comes to upgrading players, I rotate every 4 weeks: after pre-season, everyone's lowest skill gets upgraded, then 4 weeks later the scheme match, then their highest and back again. Starting to think for QBs I'll upgrade more for scrambler to get them running.

I do follow and execute in season trades if they can be made and make sense...no sense for a team winning my league to follow real life salary dump. I do those off season then. I like to try to get draftees on their real teams, so draft order doesn't really hurt me. When players get injured I'll decide if they need to go on IR, if there is a player in the practice squad I bring them up, if not, I start after week 1 with Chicago and work down to fill rosters; the next week from the vikings and work up, then from Jacksonville down and around. Mainly so everyone gets a fair chance at the best available players. Year 2 I'll start at Minnesota.

I'm behind the real league so I'm only playing a game a week and simming the rest. Since I try to draft players to real teams, I just try to make sure I scout everyone to reveal all traits available. This will be important in coming years if I use a generated draft class that I later edit.

I'll set depth charts initially based on what the NFL is doing but I change based on injuries/performance. So Eli is still the Giants starter at 5-6 for the season, while Haskins has come in for Washington only because Alex Smith got hurt (they were 7-2 at the time). I have never tried creating a coach as Manning described (may PM you later in the year about that). In my league Ron Rivera shouldn't be fired, but Gruden should be....however, probably will keep him at least through the first year in Vegas. Haven't worked out what to do about owner activities such as ticket and merchandise prices. It would be nice to give each team a little more individual personality in that respect.

It will become more interesting in a couple of years as players develop and perform or retire and the league diverges from real life. I don't get worked up about the audio of the game as I never have it on, so that is one frustration I don't have to deal with. Overall I'm enjoying the game and the prospect of having a league of my own like the one I had for 7 years with M12.

32 team control is a real bear. I'm in the offseason and guys I cut from teams are now being offered contracts by the same team that cut them so I guess I'll have to control free agency signings as well. I still cant figure out how to fire a coach, when I go into staff the only option is to purchase upgrade packages and as far as the Raiders are concerned it still says Oakland and that their new stadium is under construction in Vegas while telling me I'll be able to pick my team name soon. I have a feeling I wasted a ton of time setting all this up, upgrading players for all teams and resigning players for all teams.

Just simulated ahead and even though the Raiders stayed in Oakland for the 2020 season it did eventually repopulate the options for name etc so I guess if you miss the prompts it will redo it the following season. As for firing coaches, no idea why it didn't let me do it the entire offseason but it did once the next season began. On that note my file got all screwed up from a combination of user errors and poor communication in game so deleted the CFM and will either start over or just scrap it and play something else.

You have to retire as that coach. Hit R3 and change from coach to owner. Fire the coach. Save. Go back in as a coach.

I was already setup as owner for the teams who fired their coaches, I was able to fire them once I got into the preseason but not during the offseason for whatever reason.
