TNK BOSTON BRUINS FRANCHISE

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Eastern Conference Finals
Game #2- Pittsburgh Penguins @ Boston Bruins
(Boston leads series 1-0)

1st Period - The Penguins got off to a quick start as they came out flying and Patric Hornqvist would beat Rask on a one timer feed from Bjugstad just 4:18 into the game to give Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead. The Bruins were struggling to generate offensive chances as the Penguins were defending well and the 1st period would come to an end with Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and holding a 10-7 edge in shots after 20 minutes of play.

2nd Period - The Bruins came out flying to begin the 2nd period and were controlling play through the first 10 minutes of the period but the score remained 1-0 as they could not get the puck past Murray who was having a nice bounce back game after a poor performance in Game #1. Boston continued to get the better chances in the late stages of the period but Murray was on his game in the Pittsburgh net and the 2nd period would conclude with the Penguins leading 1-0 and the shots were 22-17 in favor of Boston through 40 minutes

3rd Period -The Bruins would head to the 3rd period trailing 1-0 and in need of some offense if they are going to come from behind and win this game while Pittsburgh is looking to hang on and even the series. The Penguins would go on the PP early and Hornqvist would score his 2nd goal of the night to push the Pittsburgh lead to 2-0 with 17:57 left to play. The Bruins were carrying the play and generating tons of chances as they try to claw back into this game but Murray continued to be locked in and was stopping everything the Bruins threw at him as the game entered the final 10 minutes of regulation with the Penguins leading 2-0. Boston would get a big PP opportunity when Bryan Rust went to the box for slashing with 6:52 remaining and the Bruins really need to convert on this PP chance. Boston would set up on the man advantage and had a number of good looks but failed to score on the PP as Murray was up to 36 saves in the game and the Penguins would get back to even strength with 4:52 remaining. The Bruins would get Rask off for the extra attacker with a little over 1:00 to play and they would get a quick goal as they finally beat Murray when David Pastrnak scored his 1st goal of the playoffs to cut the Penguins lead to 2-1 with 0:50 remaining. The Bruins would use their timeout to rest up the Bergeron line and go over a plan as they still have 50 seconds left to try and pull off a miracle comeback. Boston would get Rask off again for the extra man with 0:37 left and had chances as the clock wound down but Murray came up big and denied Marchand point blank with 0:02 left and time would expire as the Penguins hang on for a hard fought 2-1 victory to win Game #2

* The Penguins get a standout performance in net from Matt Murray and grind out a hard fought 2-1 victory in Game #2 to even the series at 1-1

* The Bruins played well and were the better team but just could not capitalize on their scoring chances as they peppered Murray with 44 shots and scored just 1 goal which came in the final minute with the goalie pulled

* Matt Murray bounced back after a poor performance in Game #1 with an incredible effort in Game #2 as he stopped 43 of 44 shots to steal the game for Pittsburgh

* Patric Hornqvist scored both of the Pittsburgh goals and now has 9 goals in the playoffs as he is making a case for Conn Smythe consideration if the Penguins win the Stanley Cup

* David Pastrnak scored the lone Boston goal and it was his first goal of the playoffs as Pastrnak has pretty much been invisible so far in the playoffs. The Bruins need Pastrnak to get going offensively if they are going to advance to the Finals

* Tuukka Rask was solid in net for Boston stopping 23 of 25 shots in the losing effort

* The series is all tied up at 1-1 and will now shift to PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh for games #3 and #4. The Bruins have responded with terrific games after each of their losses so far in the playoffs and will be looking for the same in what is sure to be a difficult environment with a raucous crowd in Pittsburgh.
