3 on 3 Mode - Co Op/Online Team Play

Every major sports game seems to be embracing Online Team Play. NHL has probably done it the best with EASHL. Madden with MUT Teams, NBA 2K does it well.

Why is this not part of MLB The Show?

I generally buy The Show every other year. I’d definitely be buying it every year if it included online team play.

It doesn’t even have to be 9v9, although I could imagine an Esports league doing that someday.

3v3 would be amazing. 1 player controls the Pitcher, 1 Infield, 1 Outfield. And Rotate Batters.

It would be fantastic to battle it out against other groups online with your friends.

We were literally just talking about this today... Not exactly sure how they would do it, but it would be a blast to team up with your friends. Even if it's where you player lock on somebody sorta like road to the show while you're in the field. Maybe all just rotate batters?

I think that is an insanely great way to implement co-op.

Would also be neat if you had to rotate positions every time a pitching change is made, or in another set way. It could add to the strategic decisions you have to make.

Yea, within the mode we could have some rule sets. Like positional changes among your team. If your friend is struggling on the mound, you go to a relief pitcher and it requires a friend to take control. Definitely adds layers of strategy.

Maybe your friend is your best pitcher on the controls, do you start him or try to save him for a mid-relief to closer role?

Maybe another friend is your best power hitter, what team are we using? How does our 3 man rotation line up with our 9 man hitting lineup?

And the ultimate for me. I can just envision:

3 on 3 Game
Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, you and your buddies are down a run, friend hits a single to bring the winning run to the plate.

Your turn, you’re up. High tension, Your friends helping with plate discipline, talking about next pitch. Swing and a blast to deep center, walk off HR and you celebrate with your friends, an epic sports gaming moment happens and it’s shared with your friends real-time. All working together to earn a W online.

Sony can take a page from EA & 2K here. Online Team Play can be something Sony could implement better than any of those other sports games because it’s baseball. The best team sport

Glad to see my post got highlighted on the main page. I think it’s a mode we can really have fun with.

It’s also a tool to bring along some novice players. Imagine a friend who never played before, well, put him in the outfield to get his feet wet. More experienced teammates can coach him up during his bats, give fielding, pitching tips etc.

I have been pleading for SCEA to get co-op back into MLB. MLB 14 was the last game to have Co-op (against them CPU). There hasn’t been a PS4 version of MLB to have Co-op. It was an absolute BLAST! One person was the pitch/infield, and the other played outfield. On offense, you’d alternate batters, and the “non batter” was the base runner.

It was IMMENSELY fun, and even though it was only against the CPU, baseball is the one sport where playing against a CPU for co-op isn’t that bad AT ALL! Because of the nature of the game, and the decelerated pace, it makes it so that playing a Computer on a higher difficulty, in some ways was better than playing another human being.

I am all for them putting it back in this year!

I’d be curious how they could implement base running in a 3v3 mode.

If I’m on 2nd and a friend is on 1st, do we take a RTTS view and control our own guy? What about about a bases loaded situation? Who controls the runners?

like any team, you have a ‘‘manager’’. one player is designated manager, who makes pinch hitting decisions, bullpen decisions and other things of the like. baserunning could be part of that. but anyone of the 3 should be able to get that designation.

I've been waiting 20 years for a fully functional online league. If they could give you the full version of the offline experience in an online experience. I think there would be a lot folks that would enjoy that. Much like the NBA2K online leagues or heck even the NCAA online league that we still have running from 7 years ago. The big issues in the past was a very limited experience, from limited rosters to no multiple seasons. They'd also have make sure the lag is not unbearable.

Being able to upload the OS FULL Minors rosters and run a franchise against other humans would be fantastic!!!!!

I think the 3-on-3 thing is interesting, but I wanted to kick my friends butt and show that I am the best. I'm not one that wants to team up.

I'm so down for a 3v3 Wiffleball mode. 2 Outfielders and a Pitcher. Real MLB players wearing shorts and tshirts and maybe an option to create a player?

Do you mean Co-op online? Cause there is currently a Co-op option for offline.

Yes everyone here is talking about online Co-op. Be it against CPU opponents and/or other human co-op teams, this is much needed! Especially with the possibility of MLB the Show coming to Xbox next year!(at least that is what I have heard)!!
Did anyone ever play the Acclaim Sports- All Star Baseball series(N64/Gamecube)? Myself and my college roommate spent more time playing coop in these games than we did in class! It was the best, and very simple concept.
Been looking for a screenshot to show how Acclaim did it, but I will try to explain and let me know if this makes any sense:
Prior to the start of the game, they would show your team's lineup on the screen. In this screen you could designate which human player controlled each batter and separately could also designate whom would control the player at each position defensively.
We ended up having certain players that we wanted to control every game, and didn't necessarily have to alternate in the batting order. Usually(since we played NL games) whoever pitched, got to hit with the pitcher then we got 4 position players each to bat with. If they do 3vs3, I would think they would want to make DH mandatory or at least have the option for that because who wants 2 out of their 3 ABs to be with a pitcher? Any thoughts or anyone that actually knows what I am talking about here???

In All Star Baseball, whomever had controlled the batter to hit, controls that runner. They would have a colored circle below each runner that corresponded to the human user so you knew which was which. They really just need to look at the elegant simplicity of how this was done in All Star Baseball franchise by Acclaim. Its been done before(just not online, but that shouldn't change how easily this can be done).
