Does the XFL interest you at all?

XFL opening weekend kicks off with 2 games on Saturday, February 8 and another 2 games on Sunday.

With the NFL season coming to a close last weekend, we were curious if the XFL interests you at all. The new football league promises exciting gameplay innovations, that deliver a faster pace of play and more action. The rules will definitely make things a bit more interesting.

Eight teams will play a 10-week regular season and a two-week postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game on April 26. During the regular season, four games are scheduled each week, typically with two back-to-back games on Saturdays and Sundays. The XFL schedule will also feature two primetime Thursday night games, in the final weeks of the regular season.

    Here are the teams.
    • Dallas Renegades
    • D.C. Defenders
    • Houston Roughnecks
    • Los Angeles Wildcats
    • New York Guardians
    • Seattle Dragons
    • St. Louis BattleHawks
    • Tampa Bay Vipers

Yep. Love me some football, even if the players aren't the cream of the crop. Same reason why I watch MACtion and FCS games on weeknights during college football season.

The idea did initially, but they've already blown it. It feels sterile. No star power, no swagger, no intrigue. A developmental league at best, NOT an alternative.

Yes. I'm willing to give it a try. This is the dry part of the year for me. I'm mainly a football fan and casual NBA fan. I'm not into baseball or CBB. I don't get get too into NBA until near playoffs. I usually focus on NFL off season.
I feel it is set up for success this time around with major broadcast deal and finances. The only thing is that I fully expect a slow sluggish/sloppy start. I don't think there was an enough time for players to adjust to style of play and rules. Hopefully the college heavy schemes and offensive heavy rules, makes up for The lack of talent. I do feel like they will make it at least 2 seasons, but there will be pressure to succeed right away because not sure ESPN/Fox/ABC sticks around if it doesn't.
I want it to succeed and eventually turn into a longer season from like Feb-June so there is more time with Football. But honestly, the main reason I want it to succeed is that I want another licensed football game. The exclusive NFL license isn't likely going anywhere and Madden will continuing sell well enough for NFL to continue on. There's rumors that XFL was already in talks with a publisher about a game and that the publisher wants to see XFL make it to 2nd season before agreeing on a game. Likely it could be 2k because relationship with McMahon and 2k probably knows NFL license will continue to be exclusive. So I definitely want XFL to succeed if that means we could get another licensed football game

I think it's been long enough since the XFL originally ran its course for people to have forgotten just how bad it was. It was bad football. Barely watchable, especially the first few games. Some standout talent existed and had its quirks, but I don't think it's going to last at all.

2K making a game, or anyone else, is just wishful thinking.

Long term, I'm doubtful it will last. I do think it can last 2-3 years it wants too. But long term, I don't think it's likely. McMahon isn't going to finance it that long. I suspect that their goal is to get a new major broadcast deal that will play them a huge chunk a season after year 2 or three. I saw that their broadcast deal is primarily for major exposure since the companies won't pay to broadcast games. So the hope would be that if it is a success that they renew the broadcasting deal that pays them a lot along with more major sponsors.

I mentioned about a possible game because there have been rumors about talks with publisher. A video game is a good way to market a new sports league. Mainly because it is talked about that AAF wanted to do a deal with Axis before it went belly up. So I could see XFL wanting a game and 2k has a relationship already with McMahon. A 2k XFL would sell better than a indie game

                    Am I interested?
Absolutely. I don't watch basketball as much I use to unless it's March Madness or the playoffs, and as a result, February through September is a dark time for me. I definitely look forward to attending at least 2 Renegades games.

                    Will it last long?
Hard to tell. History has shown that spring football leagues just don't do well viewership-wise. For starters, football has just ended, and what other sport is ramping up? Basketball. March Madness and the NBA playoffs is what gets a lot of people amped up. Also, a lot of people don't want to watch NFL rejects and are only interested in the greats. I want it to last long term so the 7-month hiatus is way less torturous

Re: Does the XFL interest you at all?

the xfl has already made a mistake with scheduling.
starting 1 week after the superbowl I think will hurt the league.
I think that Most casual fans need a few weeks to unwind from the culmination of an NFL season (football fatigue). anything right after the superbowl will be a let down and draw less eyes to the tv screen.

That is why the NFL moved the proBowl to the week between the superbowl. If Im not mistaken tv ratings used to be awful for the probowl, prior to the schedule change.

the inaugural xfl season should have started 3 weeks after the superbowll. teh regular season would end the 3rd week of April. and have the playoffs and championship complete by the first week of MAy.

advantages would be a better window for advertising the league. playoffs would start a few weeks after the NCAA tourney and right before people really get into baseball. May is an official start to Summer/warmer weather in most of the country.

Only for the reason 2k may make a game because of it.

Yes, if only to support the players and see how the new rule changes effect the game.

This is a pleasant surprise. I remember reading about this being in the works a couple of years ago but totally forgot about it.

Some legit names starting with the commissioner. I've been a fan of June Jones since his days at hawaii and love that run and shoot back in Houston. Hal Mumme the father of the Air Raid as OC for the Dallas squad. This should be fun.

3 more months of football. Yay.
