Re: Legendary - The Career of Porter Davis

I remember posting how happy I was to be able to follow this chise then promptly disappeared from the boards for the majority of 2019, finishing college finally then having an insanely busy year at work with no place to write up dynasty reports in my house before my sister in law recently moved out. *excuses are like aholes*.... . It looks like this is a rousing success and a fun dynasty to follow so far with a ton of great moments and coach Porter building a dominant D. I wanted to jump into the current season and then sort of work my way through.

What a play by McCollum to send game one of the season to OT, it looked like they had two guys in position to possibly catch it there if he doesn't sky for that pick. That's the type of thing that makes NCAA 14 so great.

I kinda liked the red background behind the text lol.

Against MSU, that picture of Haack going into the end zone airborne is one of my favorite NCAA pics I've seen in awhile - I was curious if you hit X / Square or Y/Triangle on that one to get airborne? I have heard sometimes X works near the goal line but I never get it to work.

Left us hanging on Haack going into the ULM game, I guess he was o.k. injury wise? haha. Defense was marvelolus against ULM there, 8 sacks what a performance. ,and another huge play by McCollum who has to be the defensive MVP so far at that point.

Those UConn helmets are god awful. Honestly - It looks like something I'd come up with, and then scrap, laughing at the thought i could do any type of design work.

Clearly that photographer was working for the Temple student newspaper and had seen enough. No need to be shooting photos there lol. Temple had their running game shoved right up their own fannies.

Tough game for Haack against Tulsa, and yet the D was just so stout it didn't matter. One wonders if Haack's propensity to turn over the ball will lead to a loss at some point when you have an off day on D.

Another big-time late-game interception there to hold off a game Houston Squad. It seems like Davis is good at getting those guys to cover well in those important red zone interceptions. That's coaching.

Little error on the score at the top of the SMU game, had you losing, I was like oh snap what happened then oh....

Definitely assumed right off the bat you would be able to handle Navy with the way you're able to slow down the run. Haack seems to have slowed down the flow of turnovers quite a bit at that point which really seems to be helping.

Good luck in the rematch against UConn I think that an American Conference title is around the corner here.

Any of the recruits you have so far that you think might be a game changer type?

Absolutely love this post, appreciate the in depth questions and comments, I'll address each one.

I can certainly appreciate the various real life things that keep us from doing this as much as we may like, I've been over a year and just getting to wrapping up season four, some people do that in a few months! Coach Geezy taught me to appreciate the slow burn. I spend a lot of time chisin' in my head between actual XBOX sessions.

I do like to think this has been a success, maybe too much of one with the jump to a probably overrated ULL squad. It's been fun though.

Appreciate the little trip down memory lane here!

McCollum's pick was huge in that Purdue game, he also had a one yard line tackle that forced them to settle for three that was key, he's certainly been a key player for us.

The red background isn't terrible I suppose, I should definitely bring back individual picture captions. I started the collages because I was running low on space on Flickr but I've since bought unlimited storage. So, back to individual, captioned pics to tell more of the story.

      This is a great picture:

      Spoiler

As far as which button I pressed I wish I could say I remembered the play or even the game but at almost eight months ago I honestly have no idea ha ha!

Looks like about a week went by in real time between mentioning Haack's injury and playing the next game. I think it was one of those out for the game injuries and I thought about making it longer but probably forgot ha ha!

That was a great game by our defense which was timely, I seem to remember struggling on offense that game. I should bring back the defensive summaries too, nice to have that all in one place.

UConn's helmets in game are atrocious, not sure what they have for other options? Probably should have changed them.

Can't blame that Temple photog one bit, that game was ugly. I was actually concerned about that game because of their talented backfield, I was bummed when I saw Williams was out.

I have no explanation for the Tulsa game, I'm glad the defense stepped up in that one cause you don't usually win when you give the ball away so much!

That Houston squad was a problem! Ward feasted a bit, Wilson bailed us out big time! Like to think it's calling the right plays in those spots.

Nice catch on the SMU score, that would have been a rough one to lose to a winless bottom feeder!

I knew Navy wouldn't want to throw so we took a page out of there book and pounded to rock and used up a lot of clock, it paid off with the super low completion percentage and the picks. We didn't have the best YPC

Really focused on cutting back on turnovers after that Tulsa game. We're supposed to be a bit air raidy because of our OC but trying to force that into the game plan hadn't been going as planned so we just leaned on our talented group of backs and Haack's prowess as a runner. It's honestly been a bit boring but it's worked.

Was hoping to see USF in the conference championship just to see another new team but it's UConn and those ugly helmets again, I've played the game and I'm hoping to have that report up this morning.

I'll dig deeper into the recruits going forward, there are some guys we've landed that will be big contributors but also a few we're in battles with that I'm pretty excited about.

Again, really appreciate the read and the in depth post.

        Game Report
        AMERICAN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
        December 10th, 2016

        @
        06-23

DELMOND BOUDREAUX PICKS OFF A PASS IN THE FOURTH QUARTER, ENSURING A CAJUNS WIN

Louisiana topped Connecticut for the second time this season, securing an American Conference Championship with a 23-6 win that never really felt like it was even that close.

Brooks Haack connected with senior receiver Scott Austin for a 14 yard touchdown in the first quarter. Jeffrey Yatkowski hit one of his three field goals in the second quarter and Haack hooked up with tight end James Moody for a five yard score to give Louisiana a 17-0 lead at halftime. A lead that would prove to be more than sufficient.

Yatkowski's pair of third quarter field goals made it 23-0.

Connecticut finally got on the board midway through the fourth quarter, scoring when Cochran found tight end Clint Fields who rumbled in for the score from 13 yards out.

“Hated giving up the shutout man, not too many of those opportunities out there.” Brandon Wilson said after the game, shaking his head.

The Cajuns defense held UConn in check, allowing only 170 total yards of offense and nine first downs. The Huskies were 0-7 on third down but did convert both fourth down attempts.

“Hate those, don't care if we're up by 100. Hate giving up fourth downs.” Head coach Porter Davis said after the win, before mentioning anything about winning the conference championship.

“That's coach.” Senior QB Brooks Haack said with a smile. “We could win 38-6 and he's talking about the six we gave up before anything else.”

Connecticut Casey Cochran, one of the better passers in the conference, was harassed all day and completed just nine of 18 pass attempts for 106 yards. He was sacked three times and picked off once.

Louisiana continued to lean on the ground game, running the ball 39 times for 185 yards and possessing the ball nearly twice as long as the Huskies. Haack was very efficient passing the ball, he completed 12 of 19 passes for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns. ULL converted eight of 11 third downs.

“Kept those drives going, kept the ball, defense stayed fresh and made plays. Textbook.” Davis added. “Danny doesn't like those games a whole bunch but I think he might be the only one.” Davis added, referring to punter Daniel Cadona, who did not punt.

Louisiana improves to 13-0 on the season, their first undefeated season and their third straight conference championship. This is their first conference championship in the American Conference, which they just joined prior to this season.

Despite the undefeated season the Ragin' Cajuns are likely to be on the outside looking in at undefeated Ohio State and Army playing in the National Championship.

“It's really en vogue to bitch about that when you get left out.” Davis said. “We can't control that and Ohio and Army both had incredible seasons too so who's to say we deserve it more? We'll focus on whoever we get and take care of our business. That's all we can do.”
