Magic Mauro leads PSG to cup victory

Mauro Icardi scored a 22-minute hat trick, the fastest in Coupe de France Final history, to land PSG yet another piece of silverware at the Stade de France in Paris.

The Argentine striker became only the third player in history to score a hat trick in the final of France's premier cup competition, scoring all three of his goals inside 22 minutes.

It took just six minutes for Icardi to find the net for the first time and it couldn't have been easier for him. Neymar did all the hard work, driving into the box before squaring across the face of the goal where Icardi was waiting to tap the ball into the open net.

On 13 minutes Icardi had his second, Neymar once again proving too much for the Saint Etienne defence. This one was anything but easy, Icardi having to use his skill to get Neymar's slightly wayward pass under control before driving a right footed shot that swerved inside the post to double their lead.

He perhaps saved the best for last, though, completing his hat trick with just 22 minutes on the clock. Idrissa Gueye played a ball forward for Angel Di Maria who in turn laid it off to Icardi just inside the box. Icardi, using the defender as a marker, curled a first time shot towards goal that had enough whip on it to beat the goalkeeper and nestle into the back of the net.

Whilst spectacular, that somewhat ended the final as a contest, although Saint Etienne, who were playing in their first final since 1982, clawed one back to their credit just five minutes into the second half.

Ryad Boudebouz's corner was flicked on by Loic Perrin at the near post causing a mass scramble inside the PSG penalty area. Keylor Navas gets a touch on it but William Saliba throws his leg at it and pokes the ball across the line to give the underdogs a consolation.

PSG have now won the Coupe de France 13 times and, with the Ligue 1 title already won, the Champions League is the final trophy left in what would be a historic treble.
