    2019 SEASON PREVIEW.....2019 ROSTER.....2019 SCHEDULE.....

MEMPHIS TIGERS (6-4, 3-3) AT. SOUTH FLORIDA BULLS (6-4, 4-2)

TAMPA, Florida -- Despite the scoreline being just twelve points apart, this game was never that close. Memphis came into Raymond James Stadium this Saturday afternoon and manhandled the South Florida Bulls for four quarters.

Senior Bryce Huff and his compadres on defense found a way to shut down South Florida quarterback Jordan McCloud, who has been a revaluation since taking over from the injured Blake Barnett. They consistently closed the pocket around the redshirt freshman and locked him inside it for easy sacks. The Tigers had a total of seven sacks in the game and ten tackles for losses.

Huff though was the standout player for the Tigers defense, the defensive end recorded 5 tackles, 4 for a loss and three sacks on McCloud.

"You gotta give their team their credit. We didn't play well. When you go out there and we play a good team like Memphis, we knew that all three phases had to play together, just knowing who they are, what they've done and how they've played the whole season." USF head coach Charlie Strong said after the game. "We just could never get any rhythm at all going on offense and with that, it then takes a toll on your defense and eventually you just get beat down."

On offense, Memphis controlled the tempo of the game through the legs of senior running back Patrick Taylor Jr.. The Tigers total time of possession dominated that of the Bulls and in total Memphis controlled the ball on offense for a whole quarter more than South Florida. Taylor rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

For South Florida (6-5, 4-3) it was most certainly a game to forget and they must do that quickly with #8 UCF (10-1, 7-0) on the cards next weekend.

Jordan McCloud was kept out of the endzone for the first time since taking the starting job. He finished the game 13-of-19 passing for 166 yards, he also carried the ball for a team-leading 21 attempts for 72 yards. Jordan Cronkrite was the only USF player to score a touchdown in the game in the third quarter, and the senior finished with 74 yards on 14 carries.

USF was just as bad on defense, sophomore cornerback Bentlee Sanders led the team with nine tackles and one for a loss but the Bulls defense didn't force a single sack or turnover and rarely looked like they had any pressure of Memphis quarterback Brady White.

After forcing a three-and-out on defense, Memphis seized the initial lead on its six-play, 75-yard opening drive that was capped with a 2-yard touchdown run by senior Patrick Taylor Jr. to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter, and with a pretty defensive showing from both teams, there were no more scores in the quarter.

On its first drive of the second quarter, USF marched the ball all the way down inside the Memphis half but two back-to-back sacks on Jordan McCloud put a halt to that drive at it was left to kicker Coby Weiss to put the ball through the posts from 34 yards. Memphis however quickly bounced back out into a big lead with another rushing touchdown this time from quarterback Brady White. Another 28-yard field goal from Weiss would close out the first half with a scoreline of 14-6.

South Florida looked like it had come out in the second half with more purpose on offense and with a long time-consuming drive of eleven plays the majority of the third quarter seemingly just shot away before Jordan Cronkrite took the ball over into the endzone from 3 yards out to cut the Memphis lead down to just two points. Charlie Strong opted to go for the two-point conversion and tie up the game but Memphis was ready and with Bryce Hall and unstoppable force all game the senior was on hand to drag McCloud down behind the line of scrimmage and put an end to that attempt. Taylor Jr, would run home another touchdown late on in the third quarter and Memphis kicker Riley Patterson would kick a fourth-quarter field goal of 38 yards to finish the game 24-12 to Memphis.

Next week, USF wraps up its 2019 season with a War on I-4 matchup at rival UCF in Orlando next Friday. The Bulls are in need of a win against their rivals with a Bowl place potentially up for grabs. Currently, the Bulls are projected to face Tulane (6-5, 2-5) in the Beef O'Brady's Bowl.

Well that was a kick in the nuts, and it doesn't get easier with UCF next week. Wasn't expecting that at all.

That is exactly what it felt like. I thought we had taken a few steps forward in the last few weeks but everything just came crashing down on us again in the game against Memphis. I don't expect much from the UCF game after this one and it looks like a 6-6 finish to end the season.

Could Charlie Strong be off out the door in Tampa?

Three-Star Bloomingdale safety Lawrence McMillan commits to USF .

TAMPA, Florida -- Early this morning, three-tar Bloomingdale safety Lawrence McMillan gave his verbal pledge to USF, bringing the class of 2020 up to 6 members.

McMillan was a "Mr. Do-It-All" type player for Bloomingdale last year, getting playing time at WR, RB, and SS. As a junior he recorded 105 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions and accounted for 17 touchdowns on offense.

Clearly, it was that defensive prowess that drew the interest of USF and Strong, a defensive guru who led Louisville to a 2013 Sugar Bowl title and was the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida under coaches Ron Zook and Urban Meyer.

As senior, McMillan helped guide the Bulls to a 9-2 regular-season record, a season where he totaled 86 tackles (2 for loss), three interceptions, two forced fumbles. His touches on offense had slightly reduced since his junior campaign as he concentrated more at the position he was being recruited at by schools such as Boise State, Washington, Utah, Washington State, and Oregon.

McMillan's decision to commit to South Florida came just a few days after his team bowed out of the 7A playoffs in a 20-9 loss to Armwood last Friday.

"It felt like the right time to get it done," McMillan told a hall full of his peers. "We had a great season, that no one can take away from us and we should all be proud. I am looking forward to heading a short distance to play for the Bulls and coach Strong. Thank you to the colleges that have been recruiting me and showing me love throughout my recruiting process. Thank you to my family, teachers, friends, and coaches for the love and support.”

McMillan comes into a position where the Bulls will wave goodbye to senior Devin Studstill at the end of this season and the Bloomindale standout will get a fair shot at the starting position this spring in competition with current sophomore Vincent Davis.

According to 247Sports rankings, McMillan is the nation's 8th ranked strong safety in the 2020 class, the 326th player overall and the No. 2 rated at his position behind four-star Kentucky commit Larry Carey.

At 6-foot-1 inches tall and weighing 194 pounds, McMillan is expected to make the easy transition to a full-time defensive play in Tampa. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds (fastest amongst all strong safeties), so it appears clear that Strong and company are looking to add speed in the defensive backfield, McMillan will come in as the fastest defensive back on the roster as a true freshman.

                    2019 SEASON PREVIEW.....2019 ROSTER.....2019 SCHEDULE.....

                    SOUTH FLORIDA BULLS (6-5, 4-3) AT. #8 CENTRAL FLORIDA KNIGHTS (10-1, 7-0)

ORLANDO, Florida -- South Florida and Central Florida slugged it out for four straight quarters on what can only be described as washout down in Orlando, however for the third consecutive year, the overall War On I-4 rivalry series trophy belongs to UCF as the Knights beat the Bulls 19-7.

The 11th installment of the rivalry was just one score apart right up until the final seconds of the fourth quarter when UCF quarterback Brandon Wimbush iced the game with a 3-yard touchdown run.

Wimbush threw for 163 yards and a completion percentage of 82% but it was on the ground where the senior did the most damage. Wimbush rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Adrian Killins added 80 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries as the Knights put up 206 yards total on the ground against a South Florida defense which ranked 5th in the nation against the run before the game.

"We all just went out there chips on our shoulders," Wimbush told reporters after the game. "This was the last regular-season game inside the Bounce House. I have only been here a year but this place will remain in my heart forever. Were being overlooked again by the voters but that's no surprise, onto the championship game next week and we will take it from there."

The Knights (11-1, 8-0) were never seriously tested by the South Florida offense. Jordan Cronkrite was held to just 12 yards rushing in what is most likely his last collegiate career game with it now unlikely that the Bulls will feature in the postseason.

Central Florida senior cornerback Nevelle Clarke was on hand to record two interceptions, Clarke leads the American Conference with six interceptions on the season. Jordan McCloud was also sacked three times in the game by the Knights defense, Antwan Collier, Brendon Hayes, and true freshman Tre'Mon Morrish-Brash all with a sack each.

"You gotta be able to create plays and you gotta be able to make plays on offense, and we didn't do it," USF head coach Charlie Strong said. "The defense played well all game but when the defense holds them, we gotta be able to drive and capitalize."

For South Florida (6-6, 4-4), Jordan McCloud finished the game 20-for-36 passing for 186 yards, his touchdown pass came in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter when he found Eddie McDoom in the endzone. On defense, the Bulls recorded three sacks through Darius Slade, Stacy Kirkby, and Kirk Livingstone and linebacker Dwayne Broyles did record a fumble on Brandon Wimbush.

This loss marks the end of a disappointing regular season for South Florida and it could well mark the end of an era in Tampa. For Strong, that could well be it for him as the head coach down in Tampa with Bulls highly unlikely to feature in a Bowl Game based on the current projections. It will be the first time in three seasons that the Bulls have missed a bowl game.

I think that loss has taken us out of bowl contention, at least based on the in-game projections as we go into the conference championships.

You both summed it up completely, that was a tough game to sit through this morning that is for sure. It was even tougher to take parts of the game and translate that into a recap.

It annoyed me how easy it was for Wimbush to bump outside and cut loose against my defense, the lack of speed at the safety position really hurts and then having young linebackers with low AWR is also trouble, but that's why I picked USF.
