    Stolen Bases

Is it just me, or is it really difficult to steal bases this year? I dialed down my “baserunner speed” slider to 3 because I think it reflects plays at 1st, and 1st to 3rd situations more accurately, but that must really kill stolen base chances.

In my Royals franchise, Mondesi & Merrifield have combined for just 12 SB’s and have been caught stealing 12 times!

I get good jumps most of the time, but it doesn’t seem to matter. Not to mention that every throw from the catcher is miraculously perfect...1st base side of 2nd, at the knees.

Anyone else seeing this? Do I simply need to boost the baserunner speed slider back up to 5 or 6?

    Re: Stolen Bases

I have seen this for years. There is no collision detection. I’ve done replays and on these head first slides the extended fingers have been over the top of the bag, but not actually touching the bag, tag is then applied, and they are still called out. Not sure if anything will be done, but I’ve resorted to QUICK MANAGE if I want to steal.

I use classic baserunning but have to read situation(count, pitcher delivery & catcher arm) but R2(preload) & R1(lead off) in that order, got this help last year (still works) on the forums about 80 percent with the Nationals can steal with Soto with about 53 speed & 15 steal ability.

My problem is literally no one I control gets a good jump. If I let them do it themselves they start running when the ball is half way to the plate and even when I release it myself it seems to take a couple seconds to register. I’ve never had this problem before but it’s getting very frustrating.

Very true. Quick Manage is the only way I can get a steal anymore. And it shouldn’t be like that with two of the fastest and best base stealers in Merrifield and Mondesi.

And I agree...the tag work around the bag is horrible. It’s all too clean and proper. There should be more collisions as the runner dives into 2nd.

Exactly! It’s like they’re stuck in quicksand on their jump to 2nd, even after I got WHAT LOOKED LIKE a great jump. It’s cost me several caught stealings.

              No issues here.

Harrison Bader leads the league with 32 stolen bases on the year and we are tied for 2nd best in the majors with a .786 steal rate percentage.

EDIT: Not sure how I deleted this line, but this is with baserunner speed at default (5 I guess)

Hmmm. That's all well and good, but the fact that players hands are over, but not touching the bag, and the runner is called out is real and it happens way to often. Get the jump, reach the bag before the tag, get called out because the hand is not actually "touching" the bag. It is something that SDS really needs to take a look at. Anybody who plays the game can see this issue. I have looked at this from every possible angle.

I never disputed that fact, just replied to the topic the OP posted about if anyone else was having issues with successfully stealing bases, to which I shared my stats.

                    Re: Stolen Bases

I have found stealing to be accurate for the most part, with the exception of the late tag out. I make sure that I’m in a count where I’m expecting offspeed, press R2 and hold in L1 until the pitch is thrown. Disclaimer: you will get picked off if he throws over by holding L1. I have been burned on this a few times. Not enough for me to quit doing it. Also, I don’t try to steal in expected steal situations as the computer will pitch out most of the time and then you have no chance.

                    I play franchise only offline.

                      Re: Stolen Bases

I can’t steal bases at all anymore and it used to be a big part of my game. The main issue for me is the poor jumps.

Even when I am holding L2 and releasing on movement, it seems like the jump is totally random. Sometimes they leave immediately and sometimes they wait until the pitch is nearly across the plate.

I have ALWAYS had trouble stealing. I play as the Mets and Rosario is the only one I can ever swipe a base with

                          Re: Stolen Bases

What I do is press L2 to que up the steal. I then wait until I think the pitcher is going home and I press L1 to get an extra step/jump for the steal attempt.

Just be careful as the pitcher will at times throw over. It's not a guarantee pickoff by any stretch, but it adds to the cat and mouse of baserunning. Also you'll notice the pitcher changing how long he holds the ball before pitching.

I need to try pressing L1 after I press L2 to queue up the steal. The CPU does get in the habit of throwing over when he knows a steal is coming, but it’s a chance I’m willing to take. It really feels like my guys are stuck in quicksand after they finally get their jump. And that shouldn’t happen with good base stealers.

I’ll feel like I should have gotten a massive jump, but then when the pitch is released, my runner is still spinning his wheels getting going to 2nd. Talk about a rally killer!

Exactly. Random is the word. I’ve seen too many times where I’ve felt like I got a great jump and I’m thrown out by a mile, and then a few innings later I’ll get a terrible jump where the runner actually takes off well. It’s frustrating.

I guess I’ll just have to bring up QUICK MANAGE anytime I want to ACTUALLY steal a base lol.
