How I Set Up My Death Penalty Dynasty

I'm doing an Ohio State death penalty dynasty. I'm in year #3 (really 4 if you count the first year I simmed) and I've seen people on here ask how to do one so I wanted to share.

First off, I did use the editor to change some things. I changed my prestige from a 6-star to a 1-star school, changed some of the recruiting pitches to low grades, and changed all of the players on my roster to a senior. There are work arounds for these if you don't have the editor, but it's much easier with it.

    Here are my NCAA restrictions:

1.) Scholarships have been limited to 15/year for the first 4 years
2.) Zero transfers allowed for 3 years
    3.) 2 year bowl ban
4.) All of the players on my original team must leave after year 1.

So I changed all of my players to seniors so after year 1 they were gone. I simmed the first year and during it I recruited my 15 players. Once the season was over, all of the players graduated and the only players on my roster were my 15 recruits (all 2-3 stars) and walk-ons. My overall team rating was a 52. I'm also making it more difficult by playing on Heisman with J-Kits sliders with fatigue turned OFF.

I also gave myself some strict recruiting restrictions that I have to follow throughout the dynasty to make it more difficult to bring us back. Here they are:

1.) No Scouting. Makes it much more difficult to field a great team if you don't know exactly what they are rated. It is a blast tho to scout them right after they commit. The only annoying this with this is I have to add 20 players to my board who I'm not going after in the preseason, scout them, then cut them. Otherwise, the computer will use your scouting points to scout the people on your board.

2.) Can't Over Sign. I'm only allowed to sign as many players in my recruiting class as I have seniors on my team (if I'm at 70 roster spots). I make an exception if I have a 90+ junior who could leave for the pros. If you sign 25 players every class, that's 125 over a 5 year period if you redshirt players. It would be much easier to field a great team if you were cutting your worst 55 players over a 5-year period.

3.) Can't Add Players to the Board After Week 4. We all know there are highly ranked guys who don't get recruited by anyone. Not sure why but it happens a lot. It's easy to go in late in the game and get an easy commit from them. This rule eliminates that possibility.

4.) Interest Restrictions. Somebody on Operation Sports made a cool chart that limits the players you can recruit based on your teams prestige, the recruits top teams, and your location/pipeline states.

1-Star School: (Home State: Top 3) (Pipeline: Top 3) (Any: 1st)

2-Star School: (Home State: Top 5) (Pipeline: Top 3) (Any: 1st)

3-Star School: (Home State: Top 10) (Pipeline: Top 5) (Any: Top 3)

4-Star School: (Home State: Any) (Pipeline: Top 10) (Any: Top 5)

5-Star School: (Home State: Any) (Pipeline: Any) (Any: Top 10)

6-Star School: Any player you want to pursue

5.) No Athletes can be a QB. Pretty self explanatory.

I'm also using kawkeye's Dynamic Player Progression System he wrote about on here. https://forums.operationsports.com/f...or-needed.html

Using this system has really MADE the dynasty for me!

This is HARD and has been so much fun so far!

Re: How I Set Up My Death Penalty Dynasty

So in 2014 I went 0-12 getting outscored by my opponents 93-578 during the season. 2015 I went 1-11 beating a bad EMU team (still better than me) 20-17, and got blasted my almost every other team. And I just started 2016 which is year 3. So in year 3 I still only have 45 scholarship players and the rest of my team is walk-ons. It's extremely hard with J-Kits sliders with the fatigue off to win games.

    2014: 52 overall (worst overall)
    2015: 65 overall (worst overall)
2016: 72 overall (tied worst overall)

So it takes a while to bring yourself back up! I posted because I've never had more fun playing a dynasty in all my years of NCAA.

This sounds like a fun Idea that I may have to try out. I think I may add this to my storyline after I build up UTEP.

I've never really done a dynasty that I had to rely on walk-ons. Are they different years and not all freshman? I just always assumed they were freshman and this would mean no new recruits for a few years?

They are freshman, but I allow myself to cut the walk-ons so they don't count toward the "Cant over sign" rule.

I may be missing something obvious here, so please bear with me. With this, after your initial seniors are gone, everyone on your team is a freshman or possibly a JUCO SO/JR? Since you wouldn't have any seniors on your team, you wouldn't sign anyone? This seems to me that you would, for the most part, only be signing every 4yrs and then it's practically your entire team?

Okay I guess I worded it weirdly. I meant once we get to a full 70 scholarship players, then I would only recruit as many seniors as I have.

              Ah, that makes sense.

Just to update you how this is going I just finished Year #4.

                Year 1: 0-12
                Year 2: 1-11
                Year 3: 3-9
                Year 4: 5-7

The slow progression is so much fun. Having to scrape and claw to make a bowl game is refreshing. I finally made it to a 2-Star prestige at the start of year 5.

Definitely want to try this one day. The grind seems like a lot of fun and makes every win that much more special.

I started something similar in '12, but haven't really dug into it. I made OSU objectively terrible, and waited until 5 years in to make myself an OC at Kent State with the intention of taking over at OSU maybe around year 8 or 9 in the Dynasty after they have been down for almost a decade. The thought is that it would be almost 15 in game years for Ohio State to be good enough to compete for a big time bowl again and how great it would be to bring them back.

Cool to see how it is working for me. Maybe I will spend some more time on this with quarantine being what it is these days.
