Alabama coming into Iowa city in late November?!?! That’s awesome! Shouldn’t they be playing the citadel then, though?

Bahahahahahaa...Nick was definitely on to something, as a lot of the SEC is doing that now. It would be embarrassing if anybody in the SEC had any shame. Fortunately, when God created the SEC, he replaced all shame with self-importance

            2022 - Week 2 - Maryland at #12 Iowa

This will be the first time Maryland and Iowa have squared off since Coach clark arrived. The Terps represent one of the lower tiered teams in the league, but that doesn't mean the Hawkeyes can come out flat. New quarterbacks and a new combination on the offensive line that includes a pair of lightly recruited players could spell trouble as everyone attempts to jel. Maryland have some talent especially on the defensive side of the ball, with a good deal of speed. Based on the matchup, it does appear the Iowa defense will have a good day against the Terps, but you never can tell.

This is the only Big Ten matchup on the slate. Two additional league games will be played next week with things ramping up further in week 4 and 5.

            Injury and Suspension Notes

Left tackle Quay Fellows has been dismissed from the team. Coach Clark and company were already reviewing the status of Fellows due to his lack of enthusiasm for meetings and being on time. According to Clark, "It didn't seem like he wanted to be here."

While that was under way after spring practices, Coach Clark and company received word that Fellows was arrested in his home town in Alabama. Based on a review of the events and no effort by Fellows to contact the team and/or return phone calls to discuss the situation, Fellows has been dismissed.

Young defensive tackle Raymond Sloop likely would not have seen the field in 2022 without significant injuries on the defensive line, but now he might not be available at all. Sloop suffered a torn labrum in training camp and is expected to miss a minimum of 8 weeks.

              Re: 2022 Team Preview

Excited to see how this new season goes for you! The team preview that you put together was sublime, I love seeing the roster and getting your input on the expected contributions from each position group, it really helps you to get to know the team. Tough break to lose a young 4 star recruit to some discipline issues, but those are the breaks sometimes. Love those little tidbits that you add to up the realism since EA was forced to take them out of the game in the late 00s. I'm very excited to see how Malone does in his first start and how short of a leash he will be on. Basically the entire rest of the offense is solid and the line is good, so there should be too many protection issues, plus he's got plenty of playmakers to get the ball to. It'll be up to the QB to make it all work!

Loving the preseason previews as always. Coach Clark's interview was entertaining, and you always do an excellent job breaking down the roster. Auburn and Alabama on the schedule this year is a nice twist, those games should be excellent non-conference matchups for an Iowa squad that has obviously entered that realm of national prestige. And it's nice to get those two teams on the schedule since you're missing Ohio State this year.

                  Looking forward to the opener!

                    Mooooooooose. Thanks bro.

I really forgot that EA used to have discipline stuff in the game. Honestly, not the best memory for stuff like that. Good reminder. When you start working with RNG, you see some crazy things. I have something happen (soon) that was only a 1% chance to happen.

For the Quay Fellows thing, i have calculated the odds being significantly lower than that. I just decided to do the dismissal thing based on a 3 strikes approach after seeing this happen. First, in the offseason, he had a range of like 8 integers maybe starting at -2 and going to a 5 that he could "improve" at. He hit the bottom so regressed 2 OVR. Which means instead of a 58 work ethic he'll be a 53 from there on out where the range is -3 to 5. Ok, that happens like 4-5 times per class (high or low) for a roster minus incoming freshmen and it's a 12.5% chance there. Then in the preseason I had two players that were going to have some form of suspension from the players rated below 56 in citizenship on my roster (there are 9). He was the one randomly selected both of those times as well. That's like a 0.15% chance for all three strikes. I thought that was crazy.

As far as the line goes, I think if Eddie had had a line that could pass block like this he would have had an impressive season. I've been thinking of doing an O-line comparison just because I have the data handy. But these guys can't run block real well. It's concerning hahaha.

Thanks man. I'm looking forward to see how this season plays out! I went and found Auburn as an opponent thinking it would be fun to play in Juuurden-Hare. Then I panned up and saw Alabama sitting there on the default schedule and was like... damn straight.

I think moving forward I need to really take a look at your your regression chart and add in more injuries and potential game's missed for whatever reasons. Like you said sometimes you land a kid who you think would be a star and he turns out not to be one, other times you land a kid who could be a backup his whole career and all of a sudden he is starter who is making a name for himself.

As long as he doesnt end up going the Latimer route in "The Program"

Edit: There's a minor error there at the end. We play ISU at home next week as indicated, but we were on the road last year. I know there is some game on my schedule that is away or home for the second year in a row, but now I don't know which one it is.

Off topic, but the worst thing in NCAA is the fumble pickup animation where the defender really doesn't even slow down as he drops his butt to the ground at full speed to pick up a fumble. I wonder how they mo-capped that thing!?

Great season opener, looks like solid deployment of the offense letting Malone just manage the game and not have to win things by himself. I think he needs to move into the 21st century with his facemask though Brutal injury luck for Parsons, sounds eerily similar to what happened to Sutton in my dynasty this season, true freshman who was injured making a sack and ended up with fractured vertebrae as a season ending injury. Obviously anything spinal is pretty significant to anyone's future, so I'm deciding how I want to treat his future with the program still. Hopefully Parsons has a bit better luck and can at least find his way to stay on the roster, even if maybe his speed and agility take a bit of a hit!

Thanks Moose. Poor guy is getting attacked over his choice of helmet hahahahahaha. Yeah the season enders early on are tough, he was our primary backup at DE and someone we planned to activate late in games we were leading to help us pin our ears back. The sack was somethign to behold, it was a real jailbreak spin move with the arm coming around just knocking the guard aside. Caught me off guard! So yeah it stinks from that angle.

Yeah that was the one. He got two 10's in a row on the injury badness RNG.

Hhahahahaha I never saw a lot of those movies. As much as I love sports, I do not like sports movies for the most part. Dude looks like the joker. I think it adds something for sure. Would always recommend people to do whatever is the most fun for them!

Great start to the Malone era in Iowa with the dominating win even though he was more of a bus driver, but he's still 1 - 0 baby and got to show off the wheels a little bit with the TD. Chia looks like he is practicing his mma jujitsu moves on Maryland's poor quarterback in that headline picture. Great stuff as always Hellisan.
