Re: The Career of J.D. Clark (NCAA 14)

Latimer was was a special teams player who uses roids to bulk up and become a star on the defense but the coach finds out and starts making him do pee tests which he cheats and uses other peoples urine. When I think of career backups all of a sudden getting a 8-12 point attribute boost, it makes me wonder what they did to achieve that..

      2022 - Week 3 Preview

Iowa State had a great performance against Indiana to start their season. Their 34-14 victory was similar to the 31-6 score put up by Iowa last year against the same team. Have ISU made inroads to the point they could be a threat to knock off the Hawkeyes this season? Certainly anything is possible in a rivalry game, but the most likely scenario for an Iowa loss would have the Hawks meeting the Cyclones somewhere in the middle, playing poorly while the 'Clones play well.

The offensive line is arguably the strong suit of the entire team, so if they dominate the front of the Hawkeyes it could go a long way toward an upset. However, the Cyclones are not fleet of foot in terms of the skill positions, so it's hard to see the defense giving up more than 14-17 points.

Jordan Parsons unlikely to play again

Defensive end Jordan Parsons is still in the hospital five days after being admitted. The decision was made not to amputate his leg after a severe case of compartment syndrome was eased, however, doctors indicate Parsons is unlikely to be able to play football again. We're saying unlikely. They're actually saying impossible.

"Jordan will be missed," said head coach J.D. Clark. "He's made a lot of positive growth steps here as a young man, not just as an impressive athlete. We'll be thinking about him before each game this season."

David Bryant, the heart and soul of the defense as a junior, had taken Parsons under his wing and helped in his transition to college sports. Bryant indicated the team will be dedicating the rest of the season to Parsons.

"It's not like he died, but in a way we feel like we lost a brother because he won't be able to go out there with us," said Bryant.

        2022 - Week 3 - Iowa State at #10 Iowa

More Hawkeye injuries in Iowa State win

Three Iowa players suffered injuries that are expected to set them back for a short period of time. Tight end Robert Dyches suffered a back injury, guard Alonso Morris suffered an ankle sprain, and punter Tilor Deangelo suffered a quadriceps injury. Each are expected to miss 1-2 weeks. The Hawkeyes have backups at all three spots, including punter, where sophomore Kelvin Collins is ready to step in. Collins is adequate as a kicker and punter.

          2022 - Internal recruiting communicado

          2022 Recruiting Update Memo

Notes taken by assistant to coach Clark from conversations with scouts and assistant coaches and the head coach

As you know, some of our focus has changed slightly on certain players as we have gone through this process. Will follow up with additional scouting notes in the coming weeks but with the season starting off well (sans the news about Jordan) the recruiting efforts outlined previously of a small class of highly impactful players may be coming to fruition.

DT Jerry Adams - He's the #1 guy on our board and he's responding well to our interest. We have serious competition from LSU, Notre Dame, Auburn, and Alabama for the stout kid they call "Yung Bull" out of Rockland, Maine. Scouts as well as coaches have seen as much of Jerry as they're going to be able to, and we're all convinced he will be an impact player for whichever team signs him. At 6'2", 327 lbs., he has ideal size to play the interior of a 3-4 defense similar to the one we ran last year, but he's pretty athletic and just wrecks whomever is lined up in front of him. With great pass rush moves as well as great strength and good fundamental understanding of how to play the position, he will be tough to stop. It's anyone's guess where he lands, but in the early going we are leading the pack by a slim margin. Like many defensive players on our board, he's scheduled to visit in week 11 during the Purdue game.

OLB Dez Dillon - To our surprise, interest in Dez has been fairly limited from other teams and we have shown him serious love. After suffering an injury his junior season, he has been worked back into the mix slowly by his coaches. However, he is now fully back in the mix and doing well. At 6'6" and 242 lbs. out of Oklahoma, he has freakish athleticism and incredible coverage ability. His speed is better than any linebacker on our roster and he's already strong enough to compete in the weight room with everybody at the position. We are convinced he is the most well-rounded linebacker in the entire class. With a massive frame and wing span as well as the ability to cover or rush, you just can't get much better than this. He has quickly moved from not knowing much about Iowa to keen on signing. His head coach wants him to come and mentioned we have recruited the state heavily in recent years. Also, Perry is a very small town. He's happy in this type of environment. Never say never, but there is very little chance he will go anywhere else.

WR Jarvis Melbert - He's a solid receiver with good speed who wanted to come to Iowa. We have some competition for him, but we're sold on his ability to eventually win a starting role at the school. For that reason, he has been prioritized above where he was at earlier. He has many aspects of his game that can be improved, but he is a no brainer once you look at the big picture.

TE Hayden Polk - He's everything we thought he might be and more, but there's a lot of competition. Right now, we're just behind LSU and Texas A&M on his list. Whoever gets him probably has a Mackey award in their future. He's 6'4" and 244 so probably on the light side, but we expect him to be 250+ by his junior season. He's got the speed to beat the defense over the top and the athleticism of some of the best NFL tight ends to take a short route and make something happen with it. In a purely one-on-one scenario with a defensive back, he'll win 70% of the time because he has the moves of a running back and as well as all that size and strength.

TE Salvatore Hernandez - As you'll recall, "Sal" is 6'7" 250 lbs. Whether we land Polk or not, Sal would be a good get for us and we don't have a ton of competition for him. As we said before, you can't teach size, and there are signs he could also be a good blocker as well as a dangerous red zone threat. We've confirmed all of these factors. He has adequate route running ability but does need to work on his hands.

FS Dawit Cunningham - We're getting a lot of competition on the speedy free safety who listed us #1. Phil [Parker, DC] said we need to get some speed so we went for the sure thing . We'd like to redshirt him if we land him, but we think we can mold him into a solid player.

CB Jaren Guzman, Jr. - Here's where it changes up. Phil and some of the recruiting coordinators had a discussion and decided to go for another corner (see below) who had us #1 on his list. Guzman is obsessed with the facilities at some of the schools that beat us to the punch in that regard, so that may be a non-starter for him at Iowa. We mentioned some of the plans for upgrading Kinnick and it didn't do much. He remains the most talented corner in this class but we have gone in another direction in terms of focusing our efforts. We made him an offer and continue to remain in contact, but he'll probably attend USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, or Alabama.

CB Laterion Thomas - Initially, we thought Guzman was way more talented than this guy. Phil intervened early int he process and said he wanted to get the more sure thing, as Thomas clearly had Iowa #1 on his list of schools. Well, happy days. As we have watched more tape and a couple of practices as well as a game, it is clear this guy is probably ont he same level overall as Guzman. He's considerably faster than we thought, has incredible coverage skills, and shows the occasional ability to hit like a safety. Plus if we sign him it will really piss off the guys at Illinois when they see how good he is. They've slept on him whereas they used to go after every corner in the state.

MLB Terry Burrage - Terry is a solid linebacker. We have scouted this kid extensively and he can play here. He's not as fast and athletic as some of our other middle linebackers have been, but we think his combination of abilities will allow him to compete for a starting role. After losing Damarja Mesun to Wisconsin this offseason, it was essential to add bodies, and we will probably do more than that with guys like Terry.

MLB Willie Nelson - Willie is five inches taller than Burrage, and every bit the player. He's probably a little better. It can't hurt to sign two linebackers. We have some competition for him as we got on him a little late, but we line up better with his preferences than any other school, and that's something he admits freely when we talk to him. I'll refrain from making any references to his name. He actually told me it's something he doesn't hear about very often. How time flies.

These are the players we are most invested in. We recently have been able to expand and take a look at some other players including DE Kyle Williams out of Texas, and tackle Trevor Salary out of Indiana. Of the 3-4 offensive linemen we had on this list, Salary is probably the one we'll make a sneaky late play for. he has the size, strength, and athleticism we look for and he likes what we have to offer. We've passed on some information about the school somewhat late in the process and he's clearly interested, but we have a lot of ground to make up. Interest from Coach Clark directly will be necessary to get him on board.

Lastly, it's clear that Jimmy Lake is coming hard after fullback Dwight Rinehart out of Centreville. Rinehart is one of a handful of players from in state who we were planning to offer scholarships to once things shook out a bit with the other players. As you know, it's a slow year in state this season. There are no studs. However, Rinehart based on limited tape in the early going looks like he might be a player. If we come after him hard now, we have a 50/50 shot at beating out Lake and Minnesota on him. We hear Lake is espousing the virtues of getting out of the area, so I advise pitching the fact that we're a good football team unlike Minnesota.

Back-to-back wins where you pretty much steamrolled the opponent, but I feel like that was kind of expected no?

How are you doing your injuries now? Are you still rolling the random numbers?

Another dominant performance, but it looks like the injury bug is biting early on this year! Hopefully those three guys get healed up soon and come back strong.

Good way to start the season, especially with breaking in Malone and Hark at quarterback. Really like how you've implemented the freshman and helped wear down defenses with his running ability, but also giving him some moments to contribute throwing the ball. If Malone can make a few more plays in the passing game and complete a little high percent of his passes, your offense should be rolling all year.

Nice quip with Coach Clark showing the ref a stain on his uni, I legitimately lol'd at that.

Holy smokes, something about guys who wear number 9 on these forums being absolute monsters seems like a given! What a run that was by Harkless, he went through 6 different guys on that play, pretty incredible show of strength. I feel like's gonna become your swiss army knife before things are all said and done and that we see him feature more and more every week. Can't fault Malone though, another solid performance making just as many plays as he needs to the win you the game. Also, great to see the defense making plays, 5 INTs is no joke! Always know you're in for a wild one when you have multiple scores coming from your defense.

Looks like a lot of focus on the defensive side of the football this season for recruiting... was that mainly for need in your eyes or just trying to stay with best available? I know you said this year you were just going for big recruits, not necessarily trying to stay in house or anything.

We have a QB controversy of any kind brewing? Harkless seems to be the more dynamic option. Malone seems like every bland boring QB Iowa has IRL that ends up being the limiting factor.

Thanks man I appreciate hearing from you and will be in turn getting up to snuff on the incredible dynasty you have going. Can't wait in fact. 2-0 now, and now the real fun begins with a trip to SEC territory.

.Yeah a pretty similar manner actually. Randomized for week, type, length, etc. Thinking of doing a little something for "nagging" injuries at some point hahahaha.

Yeah we looked surprisingly sharp. The quarterback was on it a little earlier this time, didn't have to work him in as much. Playing with 5 accuracy does the trick in terms of giving you plenty of missed passes unless the guy is Drew Brees or something, but in this game, they both were pretty accurate.

It's going to be interesting to see how it goes, so far, just based on practices where he was REALLY quite poor, Harkless isn't trusted to start games however I should give him a shot at some point. Maybe he's just not a practice player but at times it looked like he was throwing curveballs the ball was tumbling so much. It looked like a running back throwing the ball. But man can he move the ball on the ground and has power. And in this game in limited opportunities, he did fine distributing the ball. LOL, I'm glad you caught that.

Malone has been pretty solid. He has been good (in very limited opps) throwing the deep ball and that lob over the top to Terry was just as picture perfect as you can get. Again, I could not believe that block by Goodman to get me the extra second I needed.

I'm worried man. Before you guys here on the board named him Hark, which I really like, I was thinking of "cheat code" - I have no idea how he's going to be stopped if I use him a lot running the ball. They could key on the running back in practice and he would then just run over the edge defender and had even FEWER guys to get by on the outside. It's ridiculous. I mean he didn't do that every time, but it just seems ridiculous how good he is as a runner. He's supposedly 225 but obliterates just about anything in his path as if he's Bully Filoteo who was like 250+. He looks bigger than Bully.

As for recruiting, we have very little in the way of official needs (none exactly) with just a few seniors on the team, the Fellows dismissal, and the Parsons injury equating to like 9 guys we must replace. I don't mind cutting players for CSH/OVR rating reasons so I'll go a few more. But yeah, in terms of what we were missing, and as far as where the crazy talent was in terms of what we scouted and what was available to us, it trended to defense.. Mesun leaving was a blow, he would have started this year. If I didn't replace that with some new talent and Butler left I would be looking at my linebacking corps and being worried but we'll have some good players coming in. We have scouted for big strong DT for a couple years but Jerry Adams is the best I've seen of the big body DT type so had to go after him. We will be adding to the WR group and the TE group as well as hopefully sneaking in and snagging at least one OL. I scouted three QBs looking for a more accurate passer and failed miserably. Once a few guys sign off that 35 man, maybe I'll take another look from the local areas and scout another guy. I have one guy I'm interested in but we need to have some signings.

Probably not as much of a controversy as there should be. I kind of wanted a different experience than the last few seasons, and the power of Harkless with less speed than Allen could be seen as a difference... Maybe I should embrace it and just put up 400+ rush yards a game for the next four seasons I mean if you defend him, Larry Lloyd is running up the middle untouched into the secondary, and if you key on Lloyd, you're probably going to have a secondary guy lying flat on his back and maybe in the hospital LOL.

Guys, again, thank you so much. To echo what Moose said you guys are what makes this fun, sharing this hobby with a good group of guys is a big deal

Helli! Been a silent follower for awhile catching up about once a week, and a loyal follower for shoot.. 15 years going back to MM.. You never let down with these reports. I gotta say the Season Previews and Season Recaps are top notch, very well done!
