I love these rosters. I used your 1995 on M19 to knockout a couple of seasons. This year I opted for Iteach's 1991 just because i wanted the first year Steve was the starter for the Niners. However, it was watching your videos of the classic games that got me in that mindset. I've ended up having the most fun with these retro seasons. So I started with the 1991 and just treated it like a 90's base (I gave Farve to the Pack and as much as it pained my I gave Haley to the Boys). I have then used combo draft classes to play my franchise. Year 1 had a 1992-94 draft, Year 2 was 1995-97, Year 3 was 1998-99, Year 4 was 2000-04....I'm currently in year 5 and my draft class is comprised of 2005-2010. After this year I will be using solitary classes of 2011 thru 2020. I'm seriously debating just sticking with M20 and continuing this portion of my Niners universe.

Yeah I'll be sticking with madden 20 till madden 22 shows some promise on next gen. Hopefully by year 2 on the PS5 it has something for me that is worth a purchase. Not in a rush for a roster update/polish and better presentation just yet. Currently working on 98 49ers and 98 Vikings.

I’ve treated madden for the last 20 years as a way to have my own little 49ers Universe. To do that each new Madden is just another year in my franchise history. I’ve been doing this since madden 99 on the PSX and I’ve now amassed over 130 seasons in my little universe(I’m in year 133)....my stat binder is pretty bonkers. Madden 99 was special because it started this for me and if been something I’ve done since the fall of 1998. Pretty crazy to think but I really only play Madden and The Show. 1998 is also special to me because it was the last dynasty era Niner team.

My 1991 Steve Young is actually a “different” guy then was my 1998 Steve on Madden 99. Playing like this has really been the only way I’ve kept interest in Madden because I’m always accumulating seasons. I really only want to be the Niners and this allows me to have it that way. It also allows me start and restart with new roster bases at any point.

I done these seasons tons of different ways. I remember I would nuke the Harbaugh teams and start at almost an expansion team level of a team with ratings in the 60s. This 1991 is so fun because I’m right back in my favorite era of football and this flavor of my Niners team has won 2 of the 4 SB of this Branch of my universe(beat Moon’s Oilers twice and I’m currently getting ready to play Barry’s Lions with the prospect of either facing Moons Oilers a third time or Marino’s Dolphins).

It’s also cool to note how the combo drafts have reshaped the league. I now have 2 x-factor QBs in my division. Peyton Manning is a Ram and Brady is a Cardinal. I love the prospect of fighting them off.

I’ve preordered M21 but this is seriously the closest I’ve been to just sticking with the prior version in 2 decades.

I do that. I watch a lot of classic games anyway, but when I am working on a particular roster, I watch a lot of games from that year. I also try to watch games from the teams I am currently working on.

I do the same when making playbooks.

Check out the YouTube channel Sports Zone if you like classics. I recently discovered it the other day. It uploads games from all major sports. Tons of videos are uploaded each day. Including a lot of football. Definitely a great channel to pass time with.
