Looks they really did a good job of shutting Manning down. I will say last season I was pushing hard for you to go a different direction at QB, but Keyes held his own today and did a pretty good job despite the 1 INT and loss it's good to see him complete as many pass's as he did for the yards he did

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
Rutgers definitely woke up after that Manning score, for sure. I'm really optimistic after this game though, I don't think there are going to be many teams that keep Manning in check like that and I think a bigger reason why I couldn't run the ball was because of Keyes' back injury - it completely took the option game out of the equation. The two punt return touchdowns made it look a lot worse, and Britt broke like five tackles on the first one and was facing my second-stringers on the second one, so I really don't think this was a 34-7 type of game.Yikes. I know those games where you're the underdog, you take the lead and then the CPU wakes up. Good showing through the air though, definitely a big positive.

As I was telling young, once Keyes suffered his injury it completely derailed my running game. Their defensive line was too talented up front to simply run off-tackles and counters out of the shotgun, and Keyes wasn't a threat at all to take off on zone reads. I knew you were looking forward to having Williams take the reins at quarterback, but hopefully this is the first of many performances that Keyes has to win you over!Looks they really did a good job of shutting Manning down. Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 08)
Dang! Looks like you held your own early, but the talent gap became apparent in the second half. Also cool to see Rutgers ranked, haha. I guess they were pretty decent back in NCAA 08. That would have been right around the end to Schiano’s first stint, right?

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 08)
That's correct, this is still the Schiano era! It's funny because they're one of the teams that got the bump from NCAA 07 to 08. If I was still playing this out on 07, then they would have probably mid to lower-tier in the Big East, but because they had that breakout season in real life, they are a fringe Top 25 program now in 08.Dang! Looks like you held your own early, but the talent gap became apparent in the second half. Also cool to see Rutgers ranked, haha. I guess they were pretty decent back in NCAA 08. Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)

by Jeff Greenberg, Carnegie Mellon insider for Rivals.com
Keyes fully healthy for YaleJunior quarterback Justin Keyes is a full go for this Saturday’s home opener against Yale, after back spasms limited his ability to run last week against No. 25 Rutgers.
Keyes, who kept hold on his starting job after challenges from freshmen Kevin Wilson and Bryan Williams in fall camp, threw for 266 yards on 21-of-30 passing against the Scarlet Knights – just the second time in 25 starts that he has eclipsed the 200-yard mark. His lack of mobility put the clamps on the Tartans’ new read option attack, as classmate Jim Manning could only gain 68 yards on 21 carries.
London, Shaw trim to top five with CMU standing firmThree-star free safety Jabari London (South Laurel, Md.) and three-star defensive tackle Chris Shaw (Celina, Ohio) have released their top fives this week, and Carnegie Mellon features in both.
London, a six-foot, 191-pound defensive back from Laurel High School, has the Tartans second behind Vanderbilt, with Bowling Green, Indiana, and Toledo also in the running. He would add to the team’s safety depth, as it brought in Jason Ervin in the most recent recruiting class, and the previous unit brought current starters Todd Andriano and Elvis Washington and redshirt freshman Bobby Magnum.
Shaw, a six-foot-five, 316-pound lineman from Celina High School, also lists CMU second with Iowa leading the way. Cincinnati, Wisconsin, and Pittsburgh also are in the running for his services, as the defensive tackle could start from day one with the Tartans alongside current freshman Matt Burnsides.
Hughes removes Tartans from considerationCarnegie Mellon will not be considered as a future destination of three-star quarterback John Hughes (Athens, Ohio), who left the Tartans out of his top five released this week.
Hughes, a six-foot-four, 232-pound signal-caller from Athens High School, has Wisconsin as a big favorite currently, with Cincinnati, Iowa, Louisville, and Purdue also being considered.

Yale Bulldogs (0-1) at Carnegie Mellon Tartans (0-1)
Saturday, September 12, 2009 | 12:30 PM (ET)
Pittsburgh, Pa. – Gesling Stadium | No television
Team Overview (D- overall, D- offense, D- defense)
Following a season that saw Yale capture a share of the Ivy League’s first championship since moving up to FBS play, it opened the 2009 campaign with an embarrassing 35-28 loss at home to Richmond. The Bulldogs, who were picked third in this year’s preseason poll behind Brown and Princeton, feature a young team this season with multiple freshmen and sophomores in starting roles.
The Yale offense is led by Central Michigan transfer Steve Beltowski, who beat out last year’s starter and All-Ivy Second Team selection Todd Graham (112.3 QB rtg., 189-329, 1,727 yards, 15 TD, 7 INT in 2008) for the starting quarterback job in fall camp. Beltowski, a redshirt senior, had a strong debut for the Bulldogs against the Spiders, throwing for 288 yards and four touchdowns on 22-of-44 passing. True freshman Ted Johnson ran for 93 yards on 15 carries in his first collegiate game, and will look to hold the runningback job with North Carolina transfer Johnny White sitting out. At wide receiver, six-foot-six sophomore Courtney Burton (81 catches, 732 yards, 7 TD in 2008) had two touchdowns in the opener, and classmate Chris Fisher (68 catches, 698 yards, 3 TD in 2008) tallied a team-high nine catches for 115 yards. Second-year right tackle Randy Olsen was named to the All-Ivy First team as a freshman.
The defense is led by redshirt junior defensive tackle Aundre Henderson, who collected five tackles in his first game with Yale after transferring in from Louisville. Talented freshman Mike Nolen (2 tackles) has high expectations behind him at defensive end, as well as first-year linebacker Jason Causey (8 tackles). Sophomore middle linebacker Richard Rouse accumulated a team-high nine tackles and a sack last Saturday, and classmate Ben Evans (26 tackles, 1 sack, 3 INT in 2008) was an All-Ivy Second Team pick last year. The Bulldogs’ defense will receive a boost from a bevy of eligible transfers next season, as defensive end Shawn Lemon (Akron), cornerback Trey Womack (Virginia), and safeties Tony Logan (Maryland) and Doug Rogan (Michigan) are all currently sitting out.
Seniors River Kim (18-26 FG, 34-34 XP in 2008) and Alex Barnes (3 punts, 132 yards, 25.7 net avg.) hold the specialist positions, the former earning All-Ivy First Team accolades last season. Fisher (3 kick returns, 67 yards) and Burton (2 kick returns, 42 yards) handle the kick returning duties.

Jabari London just sounds like a BEAST. Definitely need to find a way to get him to CMU. Excited to see how things go against Yale after a fairly competent offensive performance; good to see Keyes stringing a nice game together, just need to get the passing game and rushing game both going for once and you'll be set.Check out my Pitt Panthers Dynasty (NCAA Football 14)

Haha, Jabari London is definitely a top-tier CPU-generated name! I need to land him for that alone, even if he's not an absolute need since I have Todd Andriano and Jason Ervin at FS.Jabari London just sounds like a BEAST. Season 4, Game 2: Yale at Carnegie Mellon

Tartans Offense Explodes in Laugher Over Yale
Carnegie Mellon scored 59 points and compiled 677 yards of total offense in its blowout win over Yale

by Alicia Brown, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Carnegie Mellon head coach John Elliott knows all too well what Yale is going through. But this time around, he and his team were the beneficiaries of it.
The Tartans were no match for the second-year FBS program, as they compiled an eye-popping 677 yards of total offense and scored eight touchdowns in a 59-28 thrashing of Yale this afternoon in the team’s home opener at Gesling Stadium. The Bulldogs were within a score until the final horn of the first half, and were outscored 28-7 over the final 30 minutes of the blowout.
“(Yale is) on year two of this, we’re (Carnegie Mellon) on year four,” said the fourth-year head coach. “Of course there’s going to be a talent gap. That’s a really good program there, and they’re going to be even better in the future with all the young talent they possess. But it takes time to build a consistent winner at this level, and when you have a two-year head start of preparing and playing as a FBS program, that gap will be too much to overcome right now. I’m glad that our guys came out prepared and never let their foot off the gas.”
Carnegie Mellon (1-1) received a huge performance from junior runningback Jim Manning, who rushed for 269 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries. Two of his touchdown runs eclipsed 50 yards, and he added five catches in his expanded role in the passing game.
His first of three scores came on a 56-yard burst, giving the Tartans a 14-7 lead over Yale (0-2). The Bulldogs answered with their own talented tailback, as freshman Ted Johnson outran the defense on a 50-yard sweep, but CMU marched right back and used a 15-yard connection from Justin Keyes to Kevin Cousins to take the lead for good with 9:11 remaining in the half.
Keyes reached 200 yards passing for the second straight game and third time overall, accumulating 210 and two scores on 17-of-23 passing to go along with 91 yards rushing. Redshirt senior Kevin Cousins posted his second 100-yard performance in as many contests, leading the receiving corps with 109 yards and a score on seven receptions. Sophomore Nate Satele provided 41 rushing yards and a touchdown on 10 totes.
Yale’s offense was very all-or-nothing throughout the afternoon, as all four of its touchdowns were 50 yards or longer. Steve Beltowski threw for 288 yards and three scores – a 55-yard pass to Chris Fisher, 71-yard toss to Adam Wagner, and 85-yard connection with Courtney Burton – but also tossed three interceptions to Matt Johnson, Todd Andriano, and Calvin Burton. Johnson topped the century mark rushing with 116 yards to his name.
It wasn’t all good news for the Tartans this afternoon, however, as sophomore linebacker Mark Toth left in the first half with a chest injury, and second-year safety Elvis Washington departed in the second half favoring his elbow.

Huge win. I saw the preview and figured it was winnable, didn't expect the offense to explode like that though. Should be a nice confidence boost.

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
Wow. What a win, now that's what you're looking for. Competent performance from Keyes passing, and then you add in his ability to run and he is really a new QB this year. 300 yard performance, 4 TDs, and that's in addition to the incredible game from Manning running the ball. Obviously the offense won't be able to play this well every game, but at least you've found a pretty solid blueprint to follow!Check out my Pitt Panthers Dynasty (NCAA Football 14)

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
Yale is BAD. I figured I would put an Ivy on the schedule to get an easy win, plus it makes for a decent storyline with the academic prestige of both schools, but I didn't think they'd be this easy to move the ball on. Still, as you said, it's a very nice confidence boost heading into this Pitt/Ball State back-to-back!Huge win. I saw the preview and figured it was winnable, didn't expect the offense to explode like that though. Should be a nice confidence boost.

Yup, I've definitely set the blueprint with what I want to do with this group. The spread is really allowing Keyes to flourish, and this was exactly how dangerous it can be - albeit, against a bad team - when he's able to run the ball as well as get it out to the receivers. I definitely won't have that kind of success week in and week out, but it's an encouraging step forward and makes me more excited about the rest of the season!Wow. What a win, now that's what you're looking for.
