More PGA TOUR 2K21 Info Coming August 6

I mentioned in the course thread that several streamers have been posting about an upcoming virtual preview of PGA 2K1...well, we have an apparent date for that:

    August 6

Seems like the "embargo" for info on the game will be lifted that day. August 6 is two weeks and one day away from the August 21 release date.

EDIT: Sounds like YouTuber TheApexHound will also be in on this - in his latest video, he mentions that he'll be part of the virtual preview as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yVgM0NiC3Y

Game is being released in 3 weeks? I saw one of the HB guys post up a snarky comment today over there and this is all he had to say a few months back instead of playing games ya know?

This will make or break me getting the game, also not looking forward to the cringe worthy commentary that might be attached to these videos. Crossing fingers 2k will let these guys write their own stuff.

Re: More PGA TOUR 2K21 Info Coming August 6

I have no idea how this "Virtual Preview" is going to work on Thursday. It might be all of the YouTube streamers publishing their own streaming or recorded videos or whether some, or all of them are going to be tied into a common broadcast, or what. It sounds like they're at least going to have had some seat time with the game before Thursday (and are probably are ready getting some now if HB Studios is smart). However they do it, I think we're going to learn a lot about the game on Thursday, August 6th.

I'm thinking it's possible that HB Studios/2K might release the 14 minute, more in depth gameplay walkthrough that they apparently unintentionally made available on YouTube for a couple of hours last Wednesday, as early as Tuesday, to sort of warm viewers up to what they're going to see on Thursday.

If you didn't get to see that video before it was removed, it showed the producer playing holes on different courses, and turning aids and changing difficulty a bit as he did so. It showed me a lot more about how the new swing mechanic works and I liked what I was able to glean from it. He hit one shot with a 101 or 102% overswing, was "Slow on his tempo meter (as in out of the target zone area), and the shot wasn't a "power/fade" like it would have been in TGC 2019. If faded less than a similar shot in TGC 2019, but came up 5 or 6 yards short of the carry he was targeting. I don't know what overall difficulty he was actually playing at when that occurred, but it was a step in the right direction at least.

I'm curious to see how they've implemented vibration support in all platforms, as was confirmed last week that they had. If it's done to scale with the properly degree of subtleness, it could be a welcome addition to the game.

          TheApexHound posted this on YouTube:

"I'm attending a PGA 2K21 conference soon & will be playing the game early so I'll have thoughts & content from that coming."

So it sounds like a Zoom meeting or something, in addition to each of the content providers getting hands-on time with the game. That must be happening early this week, with the "embargo" ending on Thursday, so that the streamers can then post their thoughts.

It seems like I read something somewhere about August 4th being one key date in this, and August 6th another. Maybe the actual "virtual preview" happens on Tuesday, then the streamers can show and report on it Thursday?

Re: More PGA TOUR 2K21 Info Coming August 6

We've gotten some concrete timing on when the info will start streaming in on Thursday. This was just posted by popular TGC community member/course creator crazycanuck1985 on his Twitter account:

"As I mentioned a couple days ago, I'll be doing a very special stream on Thursday, August 6th. It's actually going to be TWO streams.

              7:00am PST - 11:30am PST
              6:00pm PST - 11:30pm PST
              (Times subject to change)
You don't want to miss this one, hope you pop by and say hi!"

I would assume that one of these streams will focus specifically on the game itself, while the other will be more in-depth about the course creator, as that is what crazycanuck1985 is known for in the community (side note: if you're interested in creating courses, his YouTube tutorials are amazing for anyone just starting out!).

Why on earth are they counter programming the first major in 13 months with these streams when they had two unencumbered months to give us anything of substance?

                    Excelent point.

And not just that...it seems ALL streamers are going live at the exact same time. Seems the embargo lifts at 9 a.m. central time, and all those content providers that I've seen post about their 2K21 content are posting or streaming right at that time. So I guess you can watch one live, and then have to go back and watch others after the fact, but honestly, I don't have that much time in the day...

Also also, I just now added up the time CrazyCanuck1985 is streaming on Thursday, and it seems it's more than 10 hours?! I'm all for getting info out there, but this seems more like an all at once purging instead of a measured plan of sharing content.

It seems like too much at one time to me, but it will be overload come Thursday. I'm still sort of thinking they might drop that 14 minute gameplay demo that they accidentally made public last Wednesday for a few hours, on Tuesday. As I've already said, it was much more informative than the 4 hole walkthough they did in June. They probably need to erase the image from the minds of many, of the 720p copy of that the 14 minute gameplay that made its way to quite a few viewing screens. It was unflattering to a game that's already being roundly criticized for its less than stellar graphics.

The compressed 720p copy that made its way around again today for a while, gave the game's detractors more ammo with which to impugn it and I think they need to do some damage control. Still I must confess, the bunkers in the game look just as bad in 4K as they do in 720p

At the risk of sounding like a shill, I get the impression that this game has more going for it than TGC 2019. I'm seeing what appears to be a framework to make that possible, but whether they actually pull it off I'm not sold on yet. I'll be willing to call it as I see on release day, but for now, I'm cautiously optimistic. If this one's a failure, it's going to be who knows how long before we'll ever see a realistic computer/video golf game again?

                        Tough crowd here.

To be fair...up to this point, all they've given us so far is essentially just that - nothing.

The course list was easily deciphered, save for 2 surprises. The lone officially released gameplay video was an edited quick hitter played at the most basic, easy level. I still don't know what to expect for career mode. The most interesting thing they've done is put out that video about how they built the real life courses.

I missed the 14 minute video that leaked, so I cannot comment on that.

I am looking forward to Thursday, and hope the info provided answers all questions. But we've waited a long time to get some in depth info on this game, and now it's going to come in the form of multiple streamers all at once...when it could have been done in a more measured approach over the last weeks and months. That would have built anticipation, instead of (in my opinion) making us feel like we are being strung along right to the last minute, in hopes that whatever massive content release happens at the 11th hour makes every potential customer happy.

Not exactly a tough crowd, we’ve all enjoyed the game, but too high expectations can often lead to disappointment. I guess pessimistic would be the more appropriate term here. With good reasoning.

Actually, it's very easy to make us happy: just show us the game being played. It's not like we're not asking for autographed copies of the beta in vintage 90's packaging signed by Justin Thomas himself.
