Thanks to NBA 2K20, the NBA 2K series saw recurrent consumer spending up 126% year-over-year in Q1, and Take-Two expects 2K20's lifetime unit sales, recurrent consumer spending, and net bookings all to be the highest ever for a 2K sports title.

NBA 2K20 has sold over 14 million units
This was from Take-Two quarterly earnings results today.
Unsurprisingly, one of the main drivers of Take-Two's revenue in Q1 was NBA 2K20, which has hit $1 billion in net bookings since its August 2019 launch, and has now sold over 14 million units.

Re: NBA 2K20 has sold over 14 million units
They are adding PGA2K21 to their stable of sports titles with this month's release. Then NFL next year. Sounds like they are headed up if they can just keep players engaged and continue to keep them spending.

Interesting. Looks 2K Sports is trying to lock up the sports genre.Comment

I don't know if I said it in that thread but I know that a few years ago I thought that 5 or 6 million was the high end for basketball games. I was obviously ridiculously off base.Originally posted by WaddupCouzinWow! I remember a thread about 2-3 years ago asking, Can 2K sell 10 million copies and people poo-poo'd the thread and post... Lol. Wow. 14 million sold, not shipped, but sold. That's impressive.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: NBA 2K20 has sold over 14 million units
That was me who posted that back in October of 2014 and I was mocked and ridiculed by most. Who's laughing now? No one gave NBA 2K a chance in hell beating Madden in sales but I always knew respect and passion 2K had for the fans would eventually correlate in sales. That pattern will hold true in the Next Generation and I wouldn't be surprised to see the NBA 2K series eventually go on to sell 20 million annually.Originally posted by WaddupCouzinWow! Re: NBA 2K20 has sold over 14 million units
I also said this in 2014 in that thread I created in response to someone saying
"No disrespect , but your not getting any money from those sales so why do you even care.
Am sure it will sell well"
My response was. No disrespect taken. I'm looking at the bigger picture. Your right I won't be getting any money but I might be getting a 2K NFL branded football game because I'm sure the NFL is paying attention and doesn't like the fact that an NBA game is potentially outselling there product 2-1. I know what your going to say and that is the NFL can care less because they are still getting paid premium dollars from EA but when popularity in the videogame sector has effect on the real world and the NBA is gaining popularity through videogames and nurturing young fans to follow the sport then the NFL is going to want to tap into that potential growth also. Madden has been at the same level for several years while NBA 2K has exploded. The NFL is taking notes I'm sure.Comment

It's the perfect storm now in my opinion with the year of the fan that NBA 2K has been advertising with full customization and a more personal attachment to the game with facial scanning. With that I think NBA 2K15 will go on to sell over 10 million copies this year while Madden will stay around the 5 million mark as it has consistently done over the past 6 years. What do you guys think, am I far off or in my opinion or on point considering how sales have faired over the past several years?
The much respected Boilerbuzz thought I was as high as a kite, lol. This is what he said
" Yes. I think you are HIGH as a kite and should seek help with this addiction. Outselling Madden is impossible. I don't know if last year is a sustainable thing. I will also say that as much as the NBA genre has grown, the fact is that Madden has only disappointed more than 2K has grown. Football is just bigger in the US. And the rest of the world has not come on as strong as you would think."Last edited by tsbmolina; 08-04-2020, 05:12 AM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K20 has sold over 14 million units
I also wrote this blog https://forums.operationsports.com/t...-sports-genre/ back in 2013 predicting NBA 2K would reign supreme not Madden in sales. History will repeat itself as Madden has gone the route of merely upgrading there engine while NBA 2k has gone the route they went with the launch of PS4 and XBOX One and that is NBA 2K21 is being built from the ground-up to fully utilize the incredible power, speed and technology of the next generation systems.Originally posted by WaddupCouzinWow! That's a brilliant idea. Let's do it!Originally posted by WaddupCouzinIt would be nice to bring back some old threads just to see how well or poorly takes from several years ago have aged.
Steve: you probably thought about that already but that would be a cool added page to the Forum, Call it, "Hot Takes" let's see how well they aged in the past 5-6 years.

Are there any numbers of how many copies were sold per platform? Would be interesting.
According to https://steamspy.com/app/1089350?__c...WjEwB0a6YyiKus they sold above 5 Mio on PC, which I cannot believe to be honest, as they it is always stated that "nobody" buys it on PC.
On the other hand steam reports an average 31000 players per day, which ranks 2k20 in the top20 steam games, which is quite an accomplishment.Last edited by jk31; 08-05-2020, 03:44 AM.Comment
