This video by Brian builds off the news from last week folks have been chatting about in this thread that's becoming a bit unwieldy due to all the replies.

Brian heads up the video portion of OS and is the main sports game writer at Forbes. He's a lovable boomer with a delightful voice. Sadly, he's also a Chicago sports fan.

I mean I only feel pity for Bears fans.

Anyway I watched the video and he’s extremely reasonable and realistic.

Sack stats definitely need to be fixed, as he says. It sucks to have 18 sacks on your team stats but not register on the NFL stat list.

However I would add that keeping track on what team players were on when they compiled their yearly statistics is vital, too. More so, in fact, because it adds more life to Franchise mode. It helps create the story of the league and the players.

It would also be nice to be able to determine where the Super Bowl is played, although I’d choose more realistic locations than he suggested.

But yeah, he seems like a smart fellow. Will like and sub.

Re: Madden 21 Franchise Mode - Realistic Expectations for Improvements?

Honestly, I'm way more excited than I should be to just have long-standing issues with player cards addressed (team names on the career stats tab, season performances displayed chronologically with opponent name and result). Provided their section about "Career Stats UI" meant what I thought it did, of course.

I'm also happy that Abilities will finally be edit-able, but I'm honestly shocked that wasn't already planned for launch. Hopefully we can edit them from both the Main Menu and Franchise UI.

Another small/realistic improvement I've rarely (if ever) seen mentioned on here is making the weekly and season awards more realistic. For instance, it's odd that Franchise doesn't have a Rookie of the Week award, considering it's been a real-life fixture in the league for almost 20 years. Plus, it could work well with the current XP system and whatnot.

Instead we have a bunch of awards that don't really exist in real-life, such as the Best OL honor.

At the end of the video the narrator says he’s expecting the ai management, super bowl presentation updates, and updated stat tracking to be in the game at launch.

I dont think the Madden team said any of the roadmap concepts would be ready for launch...

In the vein of small things that could be done, if I am a coach, how can I not assign my own archetypes to my custom scheme? Why am I locked in to what EA assigns schemes?

The development team wants to mesh the Madden player archetype system with real-world roster construction — which admittedly is impossible to do until they rework many of the positions. However, opting for custom schemes would be throwing the baby out with the bath water. I would like to see more schemes particularly on defense though.

Then it would become pointless. Everyone would just match the scheme to fit all the players they have.

Isn't the stats issued based off players not getting enough Defensive plays in? I make sure to get my main sack monsters in as many plays as possible.

Do people not draft and sign players to match their scheme anyway? So in the end you end up with the same thing except I am stuck picking a scheme that EA allows.

I get your point, but isn't part of real-world construction acquiring players that fit what the coach is looking for at each position? Having the option to have custom schemes would be giving the players options to play how they want. If EA isn't going to give us diversity of schemes then we should be able to do it ourselves.

Funny when reading all of this. Until actual weighted physics are implemented, certain archetypes don’t matter anyways. I usually go towards a 3-4 defense (attacking or base) all the time and utilize the OLB plenty of times outside their normal type. In my eyes “athletes are athletes” IE chase Young. I usually do a good pass rushing OLB and the other I utilize more of a balanced/coverage LB approach. Just me I understand, however Madden team AT OF NOW, poorly represents the roster anyhow. I have been a HUGE advocate for well over 5 years now (since Ian Cummings was on board and did a great job of attempting change and transparency) on the player ratings Madden utilizes and how they run into each other and really conflict with their tendencies. It’s almost as if some cancel each other out or just plain aren’t represented well with single digit separations.

I would like create a team to come back. It's going to be weird having a Washington Nothings team. Being able to reset historically bad teams was always refreshing, too.
